  1. for you. my favorite version though. I even prefer it over the Howlin' Wolf classic. edit: but how can it be "futile" when Slash's version seems to bring a lot of joy to so many people? silly take, no offense. I guess you were just trying to give praise to Jimi's version but I still disagree
  2. it's not that only one type of playing is the only good type. Hendrix was sloppy and Page was as well. sometimes you can call it loose, and those types of players are often adventerous in their playing. Robin is sloppy too. some think he can barely play. others praise his style of playing. Slash had a rare balance between tight and loose back in his peak. Now I agree it's different, maybe more mistakes. I thought this performance was great, but for me it's the overall vibe of the performance. I also think Slash took what Jimmy Page was doing and made it tighter and added his own thing to it. If you like more accurate playing and it's one of the factors that is important for you, that's fine. but like EVH said, there are no rules. (Eddie wasn't really into Hendrix because he thought he was too sloppy, depends on what you prefer as a listener) look what Zeppelin achieved with Page and what Jimi did with his choice to throw caution to the wind and just play in the moment. none of this shit is an excuse as there were players like Jeff Beck who had everything but sometimes, maybe often, he also crashed and burned in live performances cause he was pushing himself beyond what was comfortable to play. a big part of guitar playing in the genre of blues for example, the style and personality of it is the little imperfections when a player bends a string, you can call it out of tune and when you're playing isn't on time, a little behind or a little ahead, that also gives it its own thing. sometimes its sounds bad, but you don't have to play an instrument to know what you like and what you just don't give a fuck enough about if at all for it to ruin the experience for you.
  3. Tokyo Vice season 2 - what a fuckin' show. it's half in english and half in japanese and it's been a while since I've watched a show like this. based on a true story, the main character is played by an alright american actor. the real talent though is the rest of the cast, especially the japanese and korean actors. the star of the show is definitely Sho Kasamatsu who plays Sato, a Yakuza member. Highly recommended.
  4. yeah so money is the reason. why just do it for the fans if you can sell that signed glossy photo, but very cool for you that you were able to take the picture with Tracy and the love child of Robin Williams and Mr. Lebowsky.
  5. when it comes to covers, I'm more interested in Gn'R doing a more eclectic second cover album. like TSI had "Since I Don't Have You", it wasn't just "punk gone hard rock" thing, so for example, if Wichita was a part of the tracklist and every member got to choose at least a couple of covers they're into from more than just one genre (Axl, Slash, and Duff gets to choose to be clear) that would be something with a lot of potential cause Gn'R did a lot of great covers live imho over the years. I love blues, I just think that Gn'R is capable of doing a more interesting cover project when it's not just one genre and they also get to try maybe venture outside their comfort zone while also covering songs in their comfort zone which is hard rock imo. but Wichita showed, at least for me, that Gn'R could capture magic in multiple genres and that's what I'd like them to do in that scenario. like a blues, hard rock, punk, and American country for example.
  6. I think that maybe once Axl gained enough control and after the whole Chinese recording process and how he wasn't satisfied with how it was released (regardless of who was to blame for that) shit changed. just like you can expect Slash and Duff to keep touring and releasing records for the foreseeable future cause that seems like a natural process for them, like many musicians, I think you can expect Axl to mostly do the tours for money and everything that has anything to do with releasing original material is secondary to him living a comfortable life. this doesn't mean that Axl never writes music and lyrics and records some stuff, just that it's possible that he does that when he feels like doing it cause if he operated like this for more than 15 years now, it probably means there's no rush for him to do anything musical anymore which again, doesn't mean he completely lost interest, but he doesn't seem to need to create and share his music on a regular basis like most musicians, like Slash and Duff do. speculation.
  7. If it's for prostitutes and cocaine, then I fully understand. Anything else, though, how dare he.
  8. the actual Purple Aki is still alive, I think he meant Pappytron.

  10. I can only speak for myself, but from my own experience, just in general, I found that acceptance seems difficult. especially when you don't want to do it. easier to not accept reality and to find fault with anyone but yourself. it extends to shit people are attached to, even if it's just entertainment. the gap between what they want it to be and what it really is makes it too frustrating for them, especially when they feel entitled cause other sources provide more of what they expect to get or function in an approach that they find more reasonable. shitting on someone or something is also an effective coping mechanism for many, a chance to blow off some steam cause life is hard and some people don't shy away from using whatever ability to have to lighten the emotional everyday load. like playing a victim and bitch crying, or laughing about it. I believe you can reach the point of acceptance when you see how limiting and childish it is to always use defense mechanisms that keeps you locked out from fully enjoying what you have, but again it comes with the price of letting the silly shit go by being honest with yourself and a lot of people are not really interested in that cause it's easier to never grow up. (I don't think I've said anything you didn't already know in this post, I just find it an interesting topic to discuss and am in a blabbermouth kinda mood right now)
  11. I think Slash is an icon that will become a legend. part of it is his unique talent and image and the other part is always staying relevant in pop culture. things like the I'm Just Ken collaboration and the oscars performance with Ryan Gosling, guitar hero, being like a semi- session musician on the side and always working and being open to almost anything he can relate to is smart and it paid off big time for him imo. Scott talked about how he appreciated how Slash managed to grow his brand name to such an extent or something like that. when you're portrayed in such a way Slash did in South Park, you know you did something right. He's more relevant than Gn'R is imo and it's like Metallica's master of puppets in Stranger Things for example. Slash's influence crosses generations which is the highest level of making it as an artist/musician in the industry.
  12. first of all, Axl never said anything about a sequel that would be out when Geffen got tired of promoting the first album. no idea where you got that from. second: have you noticed how Axl doesn't promise anything anymore when it comes to new material? won't even talk about it until after a release of a piece of music and even then, he doesn't go into detail. no release dates, but also not saying it will never happen. maybe he does this to avoid putting pressure on himself and to not get our hopes up. I think Axl functions as a musician mainly for himself, not us. we can talk about respect until we're blue in the face, doesn't change the fact that Axl has the power and the means to live his life the way he wants to live it which seems to be without the pressure of a deadline when it comes to his music. that's Axl it seems. tommorow is not promised to anyone sure, but the point here I think, that should Axl choose to release more music, there's a chance it would happen, still. maybe he'll just finish what he started with the Chinese era material, maybe eventually an album beyond that, or maybe nothing at all. it's his choice cause it's not against the law to not be prolific and it's been long enough imo, for us to accept the situation for what it is: Axl is not a prolific musician and lives according to his own prefernces which include taking shit super slow. the sooner you accept it, the better and you can enjoy what we do have. At least Axl still seems open to sharing more Gn'R music with the rest of the world. it's not great, but it's better than nothing.
  13. you're presenting it like Axl is as old as David Attenborough. Before he dies, in this lifetime, there is still probably enough time to live his life the way he chooses to and complete and release a final Gn'R album all the while being perfectly aware that his time on this earth is finite. the cooks and the plumbers don't exactly share Axl's lifestyle either (basically living like a king) when you're as rich as Axl is, it allows you to use your time to do mostly whatever the fuck you want, and spend your time focusing on your interests instead of the everyday shit most people must invest their time in. it also affords you the best of everything, including doctors, food, and just in general, shit that extends your life to some degree. all these things should be considered when discussing about how much time Axl still got to extend the Gn'R catalog in a more meaningful way and again, Axl does his own thing and seems like a pretty unique person that none of us actually know, but my guess is that he's very aware of himself like I've said previously. there's technically still time for him to make it happen imo.
  14. but how would you know what Axl wants to do just because he's aware time is passing and he won't live forever? especially a guy like Axl which has made choices that maybe most in his place would not make and we don't really know this person. there's evidence Axl is highly intelligent imho and too much of what you say in your post is guess work. for all you know he's aware of all of that and more and still chooses to take his approach and live in the pace he's living in. doesn't mean he doesn't know, just that his priorities, motivations, and challenges could be different to other people.
  15. it could be, but even if I think Axl is an experienced singer and I believe everything Duff said about how Axl knows how to use his voice and gets into the details of how to use it live, as singers age and if it's challenging material, the only way to actually know if you can still pull it off according to the quality standard you've set for yourself is to try it and sometimes after you fail, you adjust. this doesn't mean that just because Axl recognizes the vocal areas which he is now weaker in, he'll use all the tricks in the book so to speak to make it easier on himself or "make it sound better" for anyone else other than himself by going with the more sensible option physically speaking and that's cause maybe he prefers to still go for it with his reduced abilities instead of singing lower, in different key, etc. just sharing thoughts here.
  16. I think that maybe you're jumping to conclusions there. I believe Axl is aware of age limitations as a singer and maybe he's aware of a lot of other stuff as well but there are other possibilities like for example, he knows the clock is ticking, but he made his choices anyway, whatever those may be, or he's aware, but doesn't have the control, ability, or cares to change the way he moves through life as a person and a musician. we just can't know these things, but my guess is the Chinese era is not done the way he sees it and maybe he feels he needs to complete that first up to a certain point that he decided on or until it feels like it's enough for him to move to a new thing (or maybe he has already)
  17. Dave Abbruzzese interview where he talks about his time in Gn'R and Axl. not sure if this is new and the audio quality is not very good, but found it interesting (Gn'R part starts at the 51:13 mark)
  18. which is all I was trying to say really. anything is still possible, even a last Guns album, and even with what we know about Axl and how slow his process is and the amount of original material we got from Gn'R. if it's going to happen, it's not going to happen in the near future, but it's far from impossible for Axl, Slash, Duff and the rest of the current Gn'R lineup to accomplish it, even if it happens years from now.
  19. it's not over until Gn'R is over when it comes to a potential final Guns album. A hard concept to grasp for some people it seems so even when Duff is not flat out avoiding the question of a new album, somehow that is also a reason to think it will never happen.
  20. we'll see. you can't tell the future, no matter how many times you say "it's never going to happen". it might happen, eventually.
