  1. nah I don't have the link, I just remember this was the most interesting part of it for me. it 100% took place though. maybe Soulmonster or Blackstar can find it.
  2. Slash wasn't all sober during some of the VR years. he was fucked up on oxy and drunk during some of that time.
  3. yes, and like I said, it's a neat tool, an instrument. human beings are more than just instruments so it, so far, cannot replace humans when it comes to things like art, it can compliment an artist's ability, but there is a process here which is unique to what the human mind can invent, come up with.
  4. I think a good artist inserts themselves, their personality into their work, so even if they got inspired by other artists that came before them, and they can access that memory of influence, their imagination allows them to add something that is truly unique. AI doesn't have imagination or a subconcious, the way AI blends information is not like the human process of creating art cause one of the most crucial processes is not there: to imagine something, a concept that even if it was influenced by elements that came before it, is now a reality with some brand new parts. Not the case with ai generated art. kinda what Gn'R did with AFD. it's heavily influenced by huge bands, but it's got the personality of all 5 members in the song ideas, sound, and playing. I think it could be a neat tool, but art is not just blending influences of the past, just old information, it's also adding the person's unique way of combining it with aspects of their personality through their filter and this is important in art as it reflects the human psyche.
  5. @EvanG how's that strat treating you?
  6. hey, we're in the same boat there. something in me just gotta know more about what happened there. I just feel like after 20 years, look at what we know... we know some things, but not a whole lot. We don't know a book's worth. some people are not taking. Sean Bevean talked a little, people give tidbits but not Paul Huge for example. when Axl will feel totally cool with sharing without it hurting his interests, maybe others will come forward and talk more freely. The best we're going to get is from the horses mouth, Axl or Paul imho. I would like to know your thoughts if you disagree, of course as always.
  7. agreed. It's genius level of musical click. when everything just leads to a never before heard moment like that one.
  8. btw, it's all in jest, cause it's subjective and a matter of taste and lord knows I cannot be objective when it comes to Slash. Fortus is a great guitar player, he blew my face off the two times I got to hear him play live.
  9. Monsters contains Richard at the end there to my ears after Slash like Jimi said but we could be wrong, but a little Richard is harmless while too much Richard means not enough Slash which is unacceptable in a Gn'R context after all those Slaxless years.
  10. yeah I get that. I would imagine the best chance of it happening is that in the future maybe Axl will be in the mood to talk about it some more, at the very least. his china exchange interview comments about being interested in writing an autobiography but being unable to do it cause he doesn't want to hurt Slash's feelings or whatever makes me think that he's the type to want to share his history and a big part of it is the Chinese era. maybe when enough time has passed cause it seems like it wasn't a fun experience for Axl. I'm optimistic that it will eventually happen, but maybe in the distant future, like you said.
  11. yeah but it's like... nobody forced their hand when Axl offered them a job on the condition they'll agree to sign a Gn'R NDA.
  12. Slash's technique is more than enough for Gn'R, as it always was imo. Slash has gained even more technical ability, it's not about that. if it's a Gn'R track it means it got Axl on it so I want Slash to play lead guitar as much as possible. it's not like we had a chance to hear that combination a lot in the last 20 years. Axl's voice with Slash's guitar creates something powerful to me. Fortus was hired as Gn'R's rhythm guitar player and it's not like I find his style more unique compared to Slash. honestly it's not even close. you mention level of playing, but there are other metrics to that other than technical ability. Fortus can't do what Slash can do, it goes both ways. the different lead guitar players worked for Chinese imo. You've had very interesting styles complimenting each other in Bucket and Robin (and I also in the minority that feels that Bumble added another dimension to it) but when you've got Slash in Gn'R again, it feels kinda silly to not let him just do his thing. I wouldn't mind it if for example Axl decided to release Atlas with Brian May's work intact. A player on that caliber, with that sound is more appropriate in a Gn'R album imo. It could have worked with Catcher as well. I would have gone with the demo version.
  13. even if Slash and Duff rerecorded just 6 tracks and we've already heard 5 of them from the Chinese era, they can always rerecord some more Chinese tracks. in one of the interviews Duff gave, the interviewer asked if Axl got a "zillion" tracks in his vault and Duff said that he does/that it's true. this doesn't mean I wouldn't like them to come up with brand new material, but it's possible that Axl will continue the drip for years in theory at least. I think it would be silly not to officially release Monsters and that Atlas is one of the strongest unreleased tunes with vocals. Axl wanted to release it as part of Chinese Democracy so I think there's a good chance that one will be released at some point in the future.
  14. yes, I really like the Rolling Stone cover and also I agree that this album flows so well and I still enjoy all the tracks on the album, I don't skip any. can't say enough good things about Mick making this happen. it makes me think that The Stones could have released a lot more great albums between A Bigger Bang and Hackney Diamonds. maybe they didn't feel like there was a point cause after A Bigger Bang albums didn't sell as much anymore and they already had an impressive catalog and the money making machine which is the tours. I'm glad Mick used his free time to turn his focus to something that I feel really added to their catalog, so late in their careers. never underestimate The Stones.
  15. I feel like we've been here before. this is at least the third time you've made pretty much the same post. Someone mentions Bumble and you naturally post about how he was annoying and how he cried a lot and didn't appreciate what being in Gn'R allowed him to have. what a fun loop. I have no issues with you disliking Bumble, but was it all negative? he cared a lot about Gn'R fans and gave it his all but like I said, we've been through this already.
  16. it depends what speaks to you musically imo. these 3 players have all developed their own thing from the soup of influences they were exposed to. It's a very personal thing, for me, what Slash was able to achieve is remarkable, it touches my soul the most out of these 3, but I like them all for different reasons. Randy had something very special as well imo and Zakk is not all pinch harmonics either. He also does his own thing but I relate to it less. He came up with some great stuff though which I still enjoy, especially his earlier work. Nowdays, it doesn't feel as inspired. bottom line is that I believe a great guitar player is like a melting pot of different parts of what came before them and kinda unites it to a fresh sounding style that reflects their own musical filter so that way it sounds like you're speaking your own language. Slash is a great exaple of this imo and you can't really compare these sort of things cause it's like comparing people. It's subjective which person you like the best cause it's also dictated by what kind of person you are. Same thing with the listener and the guitar player I think.
  17. a rule you've made up in your head just now. In reality, it doesn't mean shit.
  18. Slash also used Elvis Baskette's blue ES-335 while recording World On Fire if I'm not mistaken. iirc he made fun of its color, but said it sounded great.
