izzydoezit
The song Slash wrote about Axl vs the song Axl wrote about Slash. Which do you prefer? Here are the lyrics to both. 16min :28 sec for the songWhat do you want to beSour, this affliction If it was me I'd have it fixed And with everywhere you've been You're much too old to be so naive So what the hell do you want to be Following the trends that never end I can't stand the parties you attend So what the hell do you want with me Oh, you're so underground Oh, ain't that swell Well the word is on the street You're collecting sympathy and Then you hide And ya ain't been out in days Will the sunshine burn your face Preserve your precious skin I'll go out, you stay in What the hell do you want to be Following the trends that never end I can't stand the parties you attend So what the hell do you want with me Please don't feed the pigeons Out of the same sad bag of tricks I've heard it all a million times You make me sicker than The wine you drink So if you think I need some help Climb out of your own shell It'll make you think So what the hell do you want to be Following the trends that never end Why is it that I can't Stand your friends So what the hell do you want with me What the hell do you want to be Following fashion in the sheets Chasing every other flavor Of the week So what the hell do you want from me What do you want to be What do you want to be What do you want to be What do you want from me Looking for anyone who's somebody What do you want from me What do you want from meVS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XP2VRQuANQQ SorryYou like to hurt me You know that you do You like to think In some way That it's me And not you (But we know that isn't true) You like to have me Jump an' be good But I… don't want to do it You don't know why I won't act the way You think I should You thought they'd make me Behave and submit What were you thinking 'Cause I don't forget You don't know why I won't give in To hell with the pressure I'm not cavin' in You know that I Got under your skin You sold your soul But I won't let you win You talk too much You say I do Difference is nobody cares about you You've got all the answers You know everything Why nobody asked you It's a mystery to me I'm sorry for you Not sorry for me You don't know who in the hell to Or not to believe I'm sorry for you Not sorry for me You don't know who you can trust now Or you should believe You should believe You don't know who you can trust now Or you should believe You close your eyes All well an' good I'll kick you ass Like I said that I would You tell them stories they'd rather believe Use and confuse them They're numb and naïve The truth is the truth hurts Don't you agree? It's harder to live With the truth about you Than to live with The lies about me Nobody owes you Not one goddamn thing You know where to put your 'Just shut up and sing' I'm sorry for you Not sorry for me You don't know who in the hell to Or not to believe I'm sorry for you Not sorry for me You chose to hurt those that love you An' won't set them free Won't set them free You chose to hurt those that love you An' won't set them free You don't need Anyone else to be Sorry for you You've got no heart You can't see All that you've done for me I know the reasons You tear me apart

jmapelian
Isn't all of 5'o'clock about axl? Lol Btw, crucify the dead is ozzy's take on axl or what ozzy would say to axl in slash's shoes......or something to that effect if I recall correctly
DieselDaisy
There are only a few vague lines that could pertain to Axl in that song. 'Following the trends that never end' could be a reference to Axl wanting to do a NIN album. 'can't stand your friends' could be about Tobias. 'Shell' could be about Axl's reclusivness. The rest is all a bit vague and could apply to some woman - was Axl attending parties in 1995? Also, Dover had a hand in the lyrics. I think Sorry is about Slash and I do not care what Axl says. Crucify the Dead is about Axl. You should have used that song instead of the Snakepit one. Quoting from memory, 'new soldiers at your command', ''your ego''. useyorappetite
Well sorry could be about a woman too. Except for the "shut up and sing" line. Sorry's better.
shotgunblues1978
I forgot what an awful singer Eric Dover is. The vocal "melodies" on that song make it almost unlistenable. The sub-AC/DC riff and cock rock chorus don't help either. Edited May 10, 2013 by shotgunblues1978
alfierose
I think Sorry is the better song. I hope the process was cathartic for both of them though!
NicoRourke
Sorry is so much better.Slowly but surely delivering its message, paced with great drums a such a bluesy solo from Buckethead.Once Sorry is done, there's nut much left to say. Message was delivered.
bucketmaster101
I think Sorry trumps What You Wanna Be. I find that WYWB is a little too cliche musically. Maybe that's the wrong word. I guess it just don't do anything for me. Too generic perhaps. I really like Sorry, it's probably my favourite song on CD, and I've thought that since it first came out. I always loved the eerie kind of vibe the music grants to already haunting lyrics. Just more my kind of thing I think xXx
AndreCC
Well both songs are from different timezones...."Sorry" is more of a retrospective of how a person feels about what happened with another person from the past and it's like a justification as well. While "What do you want to be" is more of an aggressive and direct uncensored rant. Both songs suck in my view.

Russel Nash
Sorry is a cool song. The other one is a waste of time, a nice guitar work in a train wreck.
Guest NGOG
Despite what Axl has tried to say publicly, there is definitely a feeling of Slash to Sorry. He may try to say perhaps it was subconcious or less applicable in parts, but I regard the song as being very explicitly discussing Slash throughout. It's literally undeniable that Sorry is Axl's post-old band Slash song. You tell them storiesThey'd rather believeUse and confuse themThey're numb and naïveAxl basically expresses the above sentiment and other aspects of Sorry during a 2002 rant in Albany posted here a few days ago. He talks about how we the gullable fanbase have been used and manipulated by Slash and co into a false consensus. It's harder to live with the truth about youThan to live with the lies about meCome on! Rember the de la Hoya/Vargas analogy Axl drew? This lyric refers to the reality that for years Axl has been referred to as the vindictive, destructor of GNR and Slash the good spirited, hero. And in Axl's view, wrongly. It's Axl song and I'm not going to boldy say it categorically means something. But while other experiences in Axl's life may come into the inspiration for Sorry, the prevailing theme is definitely Axl's personal ill feeling towards Slash and the degree of honour society has 'illegitimately' dignified him with.
