Erin Everly Auction (Updated with statement from Axl's sister)

Any one remember Erin putting up loads of axl pics on instagram a few months ago?

Then all her friend were like "omg what u doing?" Then she removed them.

Cobbled together with concert appearance she may have been feeling nostalgic.

She's probably moving house or clearing out old shit and thought about making a quick buck. Its probably been so many years she probably doesn't see it as offensive.

..or maybe the new husband has come across this, slapped erin about for still having it and put it in auction himself.

Legally, it has to be classified as a form of defamation. Surely GNR attorneys will have little difficulty in challenging this?

Letters axl wrote defaming axl? Dude, wtf are you talking about?

Letters that were never intended for the public domain.

Huh? HE wrote the letters. So, he defamed himself? Which would mean he somehow damaged his own character and good name. I'd say that's a no.

Do you believe Axl intended these personal letters to be read by the public domain?

A lot of these items should have been;

A. burned or returned to Axl

B. displayed in a public museum i.e. the Jungle shirt, the AMA award, the signed setlist

Doesn't matter. He gave them to her. They're not contracts, just letters, and she has no obligation to keep them private. There may be some case law if she was publishing them, for copyright reasons I think (?) , not sure if this scenario would still even apply. But selling them, and it making someone potentially feel butthurt is not a legal issue.

How do you know? Is this a situation you're familiar with?

Thanks for the insight.

But again, surely the legal system should protect the character of a public figure? Letters of this nature usually only surface posthumously.

I actually just LOL'd at the thought of this!

"The state will now hear the case in the matter concerning 'The Individual That Was Made To Feel Butthurt'. Counsel, you may begin your opening remarks"

Selling those personal things is not right.

The wedding ring ok, but love letters, breakup notes, legal documents??

It's a person's life, if you don't want it destroy it, don't give it away. It's like giving away something you don't have the right to give away. And exchange money for it, whatever the reason for the money? Not cool, on top of not being right.

Oh please, what the fuck are you whining about - they are erin's personal effects and she has the right to do whatever the fuck she feels like doing with them - if axl doesn't want them out there, he can pay an exorbitant amount for them --

Exactly.

These are items that belong to Erin. They were given to her. She can do whatever she wants with them.

People are definitely reading way too much into this. Like it or not, this happens to people in the public eye all the time. J.D. Salinger letters have been auctioned from time to time, and he was one of the most reclusive people ever.

Mick Jagger has had love letters sold at auction.

Pretty much all of John Lennon's personal letters can be accessed in book form. Same with Kurt Cobain's journals. These were never written with the intention of becoming public. But that is part of the price of fame.

I think we acknowledge that she is free to do as she wishes with her own property. But is it a decision made in good faith?

All in good faith? Every chance was given?

Thanks. I really wasn't sure if something like this had happened before.

Were those letters released during their lifetime or posthumously?
