IRanOutOfIdeas
I'm finding it very hard to come up with intros to threads and I'm also finding it even more difficult to not make puns about my username. That aside, I feel like it's time to bring up another thread about arguably the most unknown member (Or the one who gets the least amount of attention) of the nu-GNR lineup even though he's been in the band since the late 90's.I've personally never seen the point of having two keyboardists in a single band because I think that's a bit overkill. You can argue that Pitman's role as a second keyboardist was predated by Teddy Zig Zag's touring tenure with the band, but I also think the band shined more during the Skin N' Bones section of the UYI tour.It also doesn't help that Pitman's keyboards are essentially inaudible under a wail of three guitars. I also think that synths and backing tracks and other audio effects aren't what GNR is about and shouldn't be a part of their sound. If he controls any pyro-tech or other visual effects, then relegate him to the road screw. If he helps with writing songs, then hide him in the vault with Paul Huge.I really think that he's the definition of someone that kisses Axl's ass (Right down to the hat, haha). He's stayed loyal to him and kept quiet for over 15 years and as a reward he's probably making more money than he'd ever make anywhere else in his life. And for all of the people who are to going to jump and defend him by saying, "It's what Axl wants", well we got DJ Ashba because of that.So yeah, feel free to give your opinions on them. I'm curious to see if anyone can change my opinion on him even though it didn't occur the last time I made a thread like this.

Thin White Duke
I've never seen the point of having two keyboardists. Nor one.
RandallFlagg
He should be present only at the side of the stage, far out of the way where his contributions aren't centrestage as if he is vital and integral, and even whilst he is at the side of the stage, unseen, he should wear a boiler suit labelled ''spare man'' and be sealed behind a five inch thick plexiglass screen with only the wires that link his keyboard to the PA allowed out. He probably does less contribution than the venue staff and stage crew so he should be singled out as separate from both, existing on the murky borders between over-abundance and overstaying his welcome. bacardimayne
The only legit rockstar in the current band.
Scumcat Esq.
So when was he born? November 16, 1962 or February 25, 1961?
DR DOOM
I think he should be out of sight when they play live, and forbidden to play on anything but the CD songs and the synth on the Paradise City intro.
saber_
His keyboard is more entertaining than Dizzy.

nosidam
My first impression of him in RIR III (2001) was kind of: "What's this useless transvestite wearing a cop hat is doing in GNR? Axl doesn't know what he's doing."
Black Sabbath
He was so smashed after the Brooklyn Bowl gig. He was having a hell of a time and the remixes he was playing were pretty good. I think he make them. He's great.

NewporTimbo
I like the songs Madagascar and If the World, so I enjoy his musical contribution. I do however find his stage presence strange and a bit out of place. The first time I saw GNR I became terrified that his keyboard was broke, and it would endanger the entire show... IE Axl would blow a gasket and stop the show...

WhazUp
I don't really have an opinion about him really...I saw GNR twice and didn't really see him or hear him for the entirety of both shows, mostly because I was paying attention to everyone else. It wasn't until Axl mentioned him that I went "oh yeah, this guy exists" Edited April 13, 2014 by WhazUp

ColdHeartBreaker
This thread has been made so many times before. I think it boils down to the older fans who really want GnR to be a organic, straight forward rock band with just the essentials and those who are more receptive to the newer songs and approach. We all love the classic line-up so we're all appreciative of that. You can't really deny his presence on Chinese songs though, he's critical on those songs. There's some interesting synth going on behind a lot of the old songs which I think does add something.I just wish Axl had of released more, I bet Pitman's all over Soul Monster, Zodiac etc.If anyone has any doubt about his musical talent, check out the Lusk album. Free Mars.
Silent Jay
Songs like This I Love, November Rain, Street Of Dreams need keyboard and synth live. Simple. Also, he had a lot of credits for CD.
Smokin' Cigarettes
Chris Pittman is pretty vital to the Chinese Democracy material because he had a big part in it. Outside CD stuff, he should be in the back smoking cigarettes, texting and taking selfie's.
