Apollo
Retiring from the work force in a month. Just gave notice at my job. Also moving to a new state - going from one weather and climate and social extreme to another. Other than that / not much change.

Plus with their extremely tough gun laws they sti have mass shootings and extremely high crime rates. We are going somewhere with a more family orientated culture than California. I'm old, man. I can't retire in a place that gets over 150 inches of rain a year!I love it here. One of the most beautiful places on Earth. Within ten minutes of my house I can be on the ocean catching halibut....or ten minutes the other direction I can be lost on a mountain trail. And I catch all the seafood one can possibly eat. But......it rains constantly, I hate the snow, and we are on an island. You have to fly or boat to get off our island. You can't drive. So we are moving to a much warmer state. My wife has one horse and wants more. I want to be able to go to college sports games and rock concerts. And we want to be able to drive to other cities. Plus Alaska is a really expensive place to live. For $350,000 you can literally get twice the house and property that you get for that much in Alaska. That $5 footling that subway sells is $12 here. I'm going to homeschool the kids and write on my books. Might as well be somewhere warm. My kids are 4 and 3. We don't believe in daycare raising our kids. Now I get to spend the next decade home with them instead of working. That's a dream come true for any parent. Apollo
I am surprised Alaska is expensive. But what do I know.Good luck with the moving, I hope it works out for you and your family. It's because we are separated from the rest of the US. A lot of the cities are literally on islands. So everything that comes in - from groceries to vehicles to wood to school supplies has to be flown or barged in. The cities we are looking at in the lower 48 are all 22-25% cheaper in terms of "cost of living" - however that is figured out. Thanks for the kind words. It should be interesting. Sarah Palin? She is cute and her family likes to party!********Lenny come visit in the next month and I will take you bear hunting!!! The cost of houses are usually much lower in the periphery, but everything else is more costly - and you have to travel to get anywhere. I come from a long line of hunters, from using goshawks to hunt rabbits, quails etc all the way to like hunting tigers with shotguns although they're few and far between in the old country now. They called them Tigers but i think they were more like leopards. Edited December 10, 2015 by Len B'stard
