Adler: "Cobain's guitar talent was very close to Hendrix's"

In spirit, Kurt was closer to Jimi than Satriani, Vai or any of those dumb virtuosos.

So he was closer then those who share very little musically with Jimi.

Jimi invented a completely new way of playing the guitar, and his music is timeless and was original and unique. Kurt got out of his guitar exactly what he wanted and every guitar part always sounds like it should be there, all fucked up exactly like that.

But Nirvana was retro in the sense that what was brought to the table was fresh, exciting, and good music, good tunes with great lyrics but it wasn't anywhere near as influential, important, or unique as what Hendrix accomplished. Especially not as original.

It's not that Kurt wasn't a good guitar player. In his genre he was great. It's just that Jimi was the best at what he did, surpassing everyone and still undefeated in the value of his musical contributions to the world as a guitar player to this day.

Even if it's apples to oranges, it's still just another Steven brain fart. It's silly and untrue.

It's silly and untrue.

No, it's not.

Kurt and Jimi are close, in spirit.

Technical ability? influence? knowledge of the instrument? versatility? originality? tone? quality of musical ideas?

In spirit.

Dude, you're a guitar specialist, I'm not. But if Steven said what he said, it's for some reason.

He's not dumb, he's a musician, show some respect, even if you disagree with him.

I'm way more then that. My guitar talent is very close to Hendrix's. (In spirit)

I love Steven, but he's talking outta his ass again imo. Sorry if that hurts your popcorn feelings.

He's talking about Jimi and Kurt as stage performers, if you're talking about Jimi at Monterey, sure, towards the end when he's lighting the guitar on fire, he stopped giving a shit about how he sounded because he was tripping balls big time, but there's some concerts where he was flat out awful and out of tune, carrying a don't give a shit attitude with him and making grouchy comments on stage, but that was his manager's fault for putting him back on the road while he's trying to put a new album out (kind of like Axl's mood on the Use Your Illusion tour).

Cobain had his share of hanger ons and crazy women in his life, so did Jimi, they both had a great sense of humor when they were interviewed. No doubt they would have gotten along being from the same state and sharing a mutually rough upbringing.

Woodstock was sloppy so I guess you could put that one up against Nirvana at Reading.

Hilarious. Three chord wonder.

I'm not sure what that is supposed to insinuate but it's hard to compare the styles.... genres were completely different.

i can't agree more when you say that genres were different.

it's just that in my opinion cobain's genre was "let the untalented people be famous for a while now"

and Adler sayin cobain's skills were close to Hendrix - I mean, they should use that for some kind of a campaign called "Mr T says be no fool, stay in school" or "don't do crack and stay off smack"

or, or, oooor, for that matter - if you believe old lineup will get back - lay off crack

Cobain was Christ reborn, the Harry Potter, golden boy with the guitar. He invented rock n' roll, not that fuckin' poseur Chuck Berry or that pretender Cobain. Sid Vicious wished he could be Kurt Cobain man. Kurt Cobain was the promised Messiah and then you know, Axl tried to stop him and Courtney had him executed, man. It was part of the CIA man cause Kurt was leading a revolution of unwashed hair and you know epic angsty lyrics. Man. Kurt Cobain was God, man. Hendrix wished he had as much talent as Kurt man.

If Alice in Chains and Nirvana could be lumped into the same genre by virtue of the fact that both were from Seattle, I'm sure we can do the same with Hendrix.

Just sayin.

I really do not think so.

Really? Jimi Hendrix had Love or Confusion. Alice in Chains had Love, Hate, Love and Confusion on the same album.

The song What the Hell Have I has a sitar intro and AIC aren't Indian, Axis: Bold as Love had an Indian themed album cover and Nirvana is a Sanskrit derived name.

Both were highly influential figures in their respective genres who died young, but as far as sheer guitar playing ability there's no way Cobain could play what Hendrix did. Cobain was a better singer/songwriter than guitar player and I think even he would have acknowledged that.

Lol Stevie shut the fuck up. Like, about anything, for ever.

Exactly. Every time the guy opens his mouth he makes a fool of himself.

Cobain was Christ reborn, the Harry Potter, golden boy with the guitar. He invented rock n' roll, not that fuckin' poseur Chuck Berry or that pretender Cobain.

You want to try that again, Miser?
