We've already been there. Someone accused someone else here of being racist for using "the Brazilians" in connection with cussing. Like "the Brazilian bastard" or whatever. And it was clearly explained that it's nothing of the sort. If they were Norwegian, Russian or Chinese, it woulda been used the same way. They fucking named themselves "Team Brazil". People naturally refer to it. It's not generalisation and please let's not support this brainwashed oversensitive snowflake bullshit that automatically assumes the worst because someone said something that may sound offensive to someone else out there. Fuck off. Imagine that I can call Merchnando "the Brazilian prick" and yet not mean it in any racist, xenophobic or generalizing way. Just watch some stand-up and be cool, man.

Why not "black haired prick" or "mustached prick"? Why focus on nationality? And yeah, I get that it is easy to point to them being part of an organization called "Team Brazil", but my counter-argument to that would then be that you should refer to him as that "Team Brazilian", although cumbersome. And referring to the Lebeis as "them Brazilians" started much earlier than "Team Brazil" was coined and founded. So yeah, I don't buy it. I certainly would find it weird if people singled out my nationality when they referred to me, like "That Norwegian prick," "that Norwegian asshole", similarly I am sure you would find it suspicious if people decided to refer to you as that "Czech fucker". Why single out nationality? It makes no sense unless you think nationality in itself makes a difference.

Black haired prick could be Slash. And I didn't even know Fernando had a mustache  The Brazilians = Team Brazil. That cannot be misunderstood, it's clear communication. Brazilian isn't a slur word, is it?

Neither is "jew". It's all about context and meaning. Goldstein might have been a jew - would you be fine with people referring to him as "that fucking jew"?

And I get that it is easy to simplify "that fucking Team Brazilian" to "that fucking Brazilian", but considering the fact that people have been referring to the Lebeis' with their nationality also before Team Brazil came to be, I find it highly suspicious when people continue this. If people were to refer to me as "that fucking Norwegian" I would certainly question how my nationality adds any weight to the argument. It should be as irrelevant as my hair color or profession.

Ha! I see what you mean, but to be honest, Brazilian would be one of the first things that would occur to me if I wanted to use some adjective.
It doesn’t always have to be complicated, and what I’m pointing out is it doesn’t automatically mean racism etc. It sounds like it, I’ll give you that, however... close but no cigar, at least in my case.

No, no, of course I agree that it doesn't have to be negative meant in any way. But I do understand why it might be a sensitive issue.

Well, fuck you too. "Brainwashed oversensitive snowflake bullshit" my ass, I've been watching people referring to their nationality ALL THE FUCKING TIME, something that does not happen with anybody else with this band (like Jarmo, for example). And Team Brazil is just the name of the company, and of course they are Brazilians, but this is not the same thing. Like @SoulMonster said (and I've said too), it's all about context.

I asked politely to stop referring to them as just "Brazilians". That was it. Now people like you got all worked up because of that and keep trying to tell me that I shouldn't be bothered by this even though I clearly explained my reasons - which you don't have to agree with, but there's absolutely no harm in just respect it. Now who is the fucking oversensitive?

I'm tired of having to stand up for this kind of thing with people trying to use rhetoric arguments like the context wouldn't matter. Again, just switch the nationality to anywhere else and tell me it's not weird to refer to a group of people in a clear derogatory way using just their nationality.

I understand what you're saying, don't get me wrong, but my point - see my reply to Soul Monster - is that it doesn't automatically have to mean racism. Because sometimes the association brings the B. word as the first thing. That's all. I'm naturally only speaking for myself. Please get my point, I hate racism and anything even remotely connected to that, I mean, jeez!

Edit: I just don't like being dictated how I can talk, especially based on the latest trends.

Sure it doesn't. And you don't have to call it like "B. word" because there's nothing wrong with the word isolated. Again, it's the meaning. I get it's the first thing that comes to people's mind, but it does not mean it's ok to use it as an adjective in a derogatory way. I'm Brazilian and people know this, but nobody refers to me as just "Brazilian" here.

Again, I just asked politely to stop using the nationality in that context. @colonizedmind didn't answer me at all and may not agree with it, which is fine I guess. You don't have to do it either, it's up to you. I was just asking because, like I said, it is indeed bothersome in my point of view when used in that context. BTW, I'm not calling you racist, nor anyone here in this thread.

Edit: I wasn't ignoring your @... I've been outta town and not on the forum much in the last week, so just getting round to commenting now.

Ok....I will make the same joke or use of sarcasm about anyone who I feel "worthy" of my pithy comment, as I have done many times on here...it's not that they are Brazilian that is anything to do with it, it's what they do for the band (or not) and how they represent or hold back certain things...(at least it seems at times) - just a perception...so many are always quick to be quite negative towards them, especially when frustrating things happen, like vinyl delays and court cases...but we don't know the full story and if they have a play or not...BUT it's always a fair assumption that, when you don't have a professionally experienced management and PR team working for you and what could only be described as makeshift MGMT...you are more liable to have issues and fuckups....they're referred to as "Axl's family" and I'm truly glad he has them and I'm sure they're loving people to him....but as to how it affects us - product and management elements...well, it's always known that folk that put family on the payroll, usually don't do it for competence reasons...

I wasn't referring to them as "The Brazilians" as a collective put down because of nationality, more as a quick collective term than to label them all individually...so sorry, it may have been poorly worded and misinterpreted as a slight on Brazil as a full entity. It's them (at times) I have questions of competence for...not anyone that is of any region. We can all say things in the moment, it's important to reflect on words...especially typed, that we think less of. I love your input here and guitar work, so let's move forward nicely, I hope... @Voodoochild

'The Brazilians' in this context seems to refer to Team Brazil. I don't see it as the whole population of Brazil.

This...I promise it wasn't meant AT all as a slight against ALL Brazilians...text and tone don't go well and I totally see why someone OF that region...may take accidental offence. Clearing up, that's not my intention and I'll be more clear, if/when I have a joke/criticisms of those that manage in future. We have some craziness on here and crazies but gladly, I don't think, geinuenly we have too many "One In A Millions"
