I have heard about what you're describing, but as far as I know science is not quite ready yet to try this on actual humans. Though it's possible I missed something, I haven't exactly kept up on the new developments in reprodutive medicine. ---- And I've also maaged to catch up with the last couple of pages of the thread: On 29.6.2017 at 3:10 PM, killuridols said: Some people think its about Stephanie and others think it is about Erin. Some others think it is about both of them and other ones think it is about his mother too. My opinion is that it is about Erin but Im not 100% sure and I'm flexible about it, lol. The description of the person in the song does not fit Stephanie that much, IMO. Yeah, the soul thing is weird but I guess that's some kind of terminology that is part of his usual communication. Remember that book he gave to Erin before a break up? It was about soulmates. Then there is the Slash soul leaving his dead body and being replaced by someone else . There's the soul transferring he used to perform with the Yoda people and all that talk about souls he did to Erin (him being posessed by John Bonham spirit, Erin & Stephanie being sisters in a past life and Erin having killed their children in another life as well). His mother?! Never heard that one before and can't really see it either. "I've searched the universe and found myself within her eyes", "cause no one else could ever make me feel I'm so alive", "...of passions that won't die in my heeeaaart" etc. would be some supremely weird stuff to say about your mother TIL being about Slash still makes more sense than it being about his mom imo Seriously though, I can't really decide if I think it's about Stephanie or Erin. The lyrics feel more like Erin to me, other evidence indicates Steph. I'm torn Agree about the soul thing just being part of the terminology he uses and the environment he was (is) surrounded by. So rambling, ranty, long-winded, egocentric, often childish ... but it's like you can just glimpse the intelligence trying to get out. If he had finished school and got a third level arts education he could have been an academic. On 29.6.2017 at 5:09 PM, Tori72 said: I totally agree with you about his manner of speaking / writing. Even though the "Estranged" comment might be due to the lyrics "I never wanted it to die". His HoF letter was so full of mannerism and metaphors and internals that I wondered wether he was drunk or high writing it. Axl is not exactly alien to boasting and showing of. That's the effect his words have on me. In his 80ies interviews he was much more down to earth and a blunt and direct kinda guy. I agree that Axl tends to write like someone trying to comes off as more intelligent then he really is, but I think some of the basic tenets of Axl speak (convoluted, rambling sentences, hard to follow and off the wall mataphors and imagery, unusual or made-up word choices, etc.) have always been there, as the letter below that @Blackstar posted shows. It just got even worse in the following decades And I'm with @money honey, I find Axl's writing quite fascinating. It's very distinctive and makes you wonder what the hell is going on in that head of his half the time. I think I could probably pick out a letter written by Axl among 100 other letters, because the way he expresses himself is unmistakable lol. On 29.6.2017 at 10:03 PM, Blackstar said: Speaking of Axl's writing, he had sent this letter to a journalist in Indiana who had given a bad review to the concert (it was during the tour with Metallica - and GnR were late as usual): On 29.6.2017 at 10:57 PM, Andy14 said: Yiss. Now I find it funny and cute. What has become of me?! Narcissist, pathetic... I don't know. It always struck me as child-like, mostly. Wanting stuff with your name on it is a kid thing, no? At least all the kids in my family always loved having stuff like that. Gotta admit, I would have loved to have a pair of sneakers like the ones Axl used to have in the 90s with my name on them too when I was a certain age I guess you could probably read a lot into this from a psychological point of view if you wanted to. Everything from it being simply another symptom of Axl being immature and child-like (as he has been described as being by many people) to the whole thing going much deeper for him. I mean Axl has always been very sensitive and hung up about his past (which is understandable) and tried to get away from nearly everything reminding and connecting him to it. Including his name. And judging by how much Axl hates being called William/Bill/Billy/Billy Bailey etc. (according to the lawsuit against Azoff, it even caused Axl "emotional suffering" or something like that when Azoff kept referring to him as Bill Bailey in his own lawsuit), I figure "Axl" is probably more than just a name to him. It's symbolic. And being Axl is probably very important to him and his mental health. Axl is supposed to be everything Billy is not: Strong instead of weak, powerful instead of helpless, in control instead of at the mercy of other people, larger than life instead of a tiny, bullied kid in the middle of nowhere. Am I making any sense? I guess when Izzy told Axl "You live and breath Axl, why don't you be Axl", Axl might have taken that to heart more than Izzy ever expected him to and seen it as a chance to re-invent himself and become someone else. Or at least to become someone he didn't hate and someone other people could like too. Considering all that, I'm not surprised he might be somewhat fond of clothing or other stuff declaring and reinforcing his chosen and fought for identity.
purplestargirl
@Frey It was regarding mitochondrial DNA and I think there is a documented case in which a baby was born with 'three parents'. I'm not sure if this technique would work with gay couples but it's plausible. You would just figure out a way to switch out DNA. Although...scientists are saying same-sex parents could have their own biological children in the near future using the DNA from both parents. Here's the link: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2015/12/18/fertility-treatment-ivg_n_8836470.html. (To the mods - This is related to Axl and Slash having kids if they were in a relationship with each other and wanted kids. Just explaining how that could be possible with today's science.) Popular Post Fourteenbeers
In case anyone is interested, here's my review/summary from Guns n’ Roses gig at Hämeenlinna/Finland. This is going to be really a long one (and there can be typos etc.).I've already posted this on Hämeenlinna concert thread and Izzy thread. My hands and feet are sore (and my voice is gone) At first: I have to defend a little at least part of the audience there. If you got one stream from the back (near the beer tents and the crowd who were there just to drink), it must have looked really bad. Me and my friends were closer to the stage (not in the GC, which I really regret now – we should have been there) But what I heard/saw there were lots of people clapping their hands and singing a long with the biggest hits (not 100 % of the people but many) So the the whole picture of the audience wasn’t that bad, at least from my POV. Me, my friends and quite many people in the part of the audience near us were singing along, clapping/waving our hands and rocking our asses off and we had a really great time. If GC crowd was not good (not totally sure about it cause I didn't see them that much) , I really feel sorry for the band, they deserved better. But maybe they were ok, somebody else closer to GC or in GC could comment on that one. I guess one factor about the not-so-great- audience is this: this is a very small country and the % of people who bought tickets just to see what fuss was about, could be pretty high. Also the average age of the audience could be a factor. And as a country we’re can be pretty reserved (if we’re not drunk) This is stereotyping (and it doesn’t apply to everyone, I’m a live wire in any rock concert - I sing along even if I don’t know the lyrics ) But now to the show: They were an hour late (maybe they were still in Central Europe Time or somebody got stuck somewhere, in the toilet maybe? Who knows). While waiting, at one point I almost yelled: Get in the Ring motherfucker! Almost. (and everybody around me talking about it were guessing that the lateness was Axl’s fault –the poor guy always gets the blame.) Axl Rose - I think I love you (as a performer and a front man of a band) No worries Izzy fans – Izzy is still my favorite. Axl really won me over. I always known he has charisma but witnessing that first time live is pretty overwhelming experience. Anyone who says that he’s doing it just for the money - I don't believe it anymore. The guy works his ass off on stage. Even if the crowd was not the biggest source of enthusiasm for him (duh), he was smiling, moving like mad and singing like there's no tomorrow. His voice sounds sometimes better sometimes a little worse, but I didn’t think that he sounded awful at any point. And there were times when he sounded really great too. Axl is the main reason why I’m really happy that I went to see them. Slash - he’s one cool motherfucker and great guitarist. At one point he was playing with guitar behind his head – what a show off. Even if I liked Richard’s solo in Rocket Queen, when they were dueling with guitars later on – it’s clear that Richard is the more technical one and Slash has the smooth, more soulful style which I prefer. Slash was really ”cool” during the whole show. I didn’t get one single facial expression from him until the very end. Just before he left the stage he walked on his hands and people started clapping and he smiled. Duff was good, he sang New Rose which was nice. And even if he is a giraffe – it was great that at times he moved to the upper level of the stage so people could see him better. Frank seemed to be having fun, he smiled a lot. I didn’t get any major fuck ups from him. Melissa – the backing vocals of Better – that’s where I really paid attention to her. She has a good voice, it would be interesting to hear her singing by herself. Speaking objectively (not as a pissed off Izzy fangirl): Richard Fortus is a good guitarist. A part from few weird ”spasms” he didn’t do anything too annoying on the stage. Things I have to say about the setlist: The Jungle- sounded good (and yes- there was singing along in the audience) I had a blast with this one. Chinese Democracy – I have to take a second look/hearing at this song. It sounded really great live. I'm really glad they played Night Train instead of My Michelle from AFD. I love the album but I really don’t care for Michelle’s melody that much. YCBM – I couldn't tell what Axl sounded like on this because I was singing along so loudly. Civil War - the most touching song of the show IMO. No stage diving (or I’ll take it god damn it) from Axl during Rocket Queen – awww what a disappointment Whole Lotta Rosie was great as always. We’ve got NR, DC and Patience – I didn’t notice any of the guys (at least near me) singing along with these ones at all. Come on, there's nothing wrong about a guy singing about love. But during Patience something really weird happened: a short time (less than 30 secs) Axl’s voice sounded exactly the same as it did when he was young. It was like a time travelling experience and I got goosebumps and couple of tears in my eyes. Then his voice went back to what it is now and the moment was over. They ended with Paradise City (where the grass is red and the schools are shitty) Fireworks, confetti etc. It was a great ending for the show. I’ve started listening Gn’R when I was a kid (too young to be listening that kind of music, but that didn't stop me).I secretly sneaked (or is it snuck?) to my room with my older sister's AFD-cassette and a walkman when she wasn’t at home. In the end I became the bigger fan of the band. With all the bullshit surrounding this tour, I considered selling my ticket at one point, but now I’m really happy that I didn’t. It was amazing experience . It was the first time I saw them- but hopefully not the last.
