(Axl in a conversation overheard in a hotel lobby) Different from early curfew in most European countries, local rules set the curfew to 1am, the latest I've been to. I work my ass off, I buy EE tickets and arrive early so the rail is clear when I go towards it. If you are team Axl, you may go for the photos center right, or eye contact front center. Front center it is. Pretenders brought in Fleetwood Mac 70s sound, there's no expiration date for girls to rock. Soon after they finished the set, there was a rainpour from a single cloud above the stadium. Show was 10 minutes late due to techs drying equipment and ensuring no surface on stage is slippery. Front center feels like a ship prow - and the band entered like a surge. After It's So Easy Axl continued to work it down there in the lower register with Bad Obsession, strong, raspy, and juicy. Axl simply blows your mind with his vitality now. He looks way more grounded and light on his feet in his sneakers and his eyes look bigger, bluer, with intensity of the depth behind more than ever. Many times he won't leave the stage, just privately groove and dance and spin around and crack little jokes. The incredibly high - paced set slows down first with the 12th song, This I Love. Axl is left alone on the blue stage and you pity the abandoned old man and his loss, so sad I cried. I ultimately enjoy Axl's quintessential ability to storytell and create an emotional roller-coaster. The heavens cried, too, with short rain during the song. I put on my hat - so for the first time I could literally go hats off to Axl when the song finished. When did last Axl get his shout-out like other members? Slash tried the solo, but it somehow didn't work for me, too sour and clumsy for a crystal song. Richard is the one to master the clarity of CD solos. As Axl announced, to keep the warm and fuzzy feeling of love, set continues with Absurd. Although not as heavy and alarming as last summer, the song about a civil war which feeds the rich and buries the poor was dedicated to Ukraine. The earliest sign that the show will inevitably head to the end was Slash's killer solo ultimately developed into Sweet Child O'Mine intro to a great pleasure of the crowd. We got Wichita Lineman before November Rain with Axl smiling and enjoying himself behind the piano with the joy of an accomplished 5 years old. Prostitute was a setlist surprise. Locomotive sounded like too much for Axl today, more like sliding on the surface of his voice rather than grasping it - he had true power only in the lower parts. "Boys and girls, you may want to cover your ears," because original Nightrain horns are back. When you didn't hope for it anymore, encore started with Sorry, Axl shouting his side of the story on the top of his lungs, heavy and intense. Outro of Patience had strong rasp and that incredible I'm-giving-you-the-very-last-piece-of-my-breath long note at the end. We got Yesterdays and it felt like the band filled the cup to the very top, just put the lid of Paradise City on, secure all the emotions and memories of the day to take with you. Axl was still running around the whole stage and cheering people after such a performance to the very end. 3hrs 16 min precisely. *** *My show #9, last Wellington dec. 22 *Many songs were rearranged to suit Axl's current vocal abilities better. *Axl throws a whistle with pleasure, but not the mike. *Duff both as a man and a musician is the true backbone of the band, all smiles punk rocker, great base player to support the guitars, also strongly supports Axl both vocally and accents his gestures, the band is incredibly tight nowadays. *The show sounded new and fresh and truly packed with energy. *Some say it was better than Madrid. At least is great when your last show sounds like the best one. *This sweet little moment when Slash was playing KOHD solo and Axl sat on on a chair on the side and just enjoyed to watch Slash playing. It could be a half decent song but it's doomed from the start when he approaches it with that no power kinda off key mewing. He doesn't even sound like a professional singer. This is not complaints complaints complaints, I generally think he's sounding decent for his age just wonder about his approach to this song. The style he chooses has zero chance for success.
