  1. He did say that, but I can’t imagine anyone would choose singing that (often) horribly in places where normal rasp should have been (especially in the classic old songs - we're not talking solely about the CD material, are we), unless they had to. Plus the thinning out already from the late 90s... Nah, I think even though he did that deliberately on the album, I think he had to anyway. Especially considering that if he hadn’t do that, the difference between the studio and live versions would have been too huge. He knew he was gonna have to sing these songs live for a long time from then on. Anyway, my bet is on vocal surgery between 2003 and 2006.
  2. As long as they keep alternating and swapping it like this, it's pretty cool, because it's kinda exciting and you never know what they'll play (except for the staples, of course). They should have started doing this years ago. Edit: I know, Axl doesn't play a single note for some internet guys from Iowa, I know...
  3. It’s still a mystery, and there have been numerous speculations. The shift between his 2010 level and 2011 level is really audible. The strong rasp didn’t disappear, but he shifted from the former level to just using it more sparsely. I ascribe it to the fact he can’t sustain such a strain for longer than a year. After all, he started to thin out even in 93 already (as opposed to the chainsaw the 1992 version was). I think 06/07 was a bit similar. And the same could be corroborated by 2016: the AC/DC thing was immense, but comparing his GNR performance of 2016 with 2017, he once again started to save his voice later. The remaining years are a result of the protracted (and unnecessary) touring. The real mystery is 2002 vs. 2006, with the former being a thinned out approach and the latter basically good old strong voice coming back. If it had been just the age thing, it would have happened contrariwise. People have suggested vocal cords surgery, an illness etc. So yes, sometimes the difference between just two years is really palpable, and simply ascribing it to the age factor doesn’t always make much sense, especially not in the 2002/2006 case. Which is why they always only should tour for a year or two, then take a break and probably work on something new...
  4. Yeah, I hope it will be a few of each. I wouldn’t want an album made of just CD2 demos. On the other hand, we cannot expect brand new songs only, that’d be crazy. So what we can hope for is a mixture. Who wouldn’t want that.
  5. I basically agree. Axl needs to get some songs off his chest, especially if they’re good, otherwise it would be a shame if we never got to hear them; on the other hand, new releases should feature their new music at some point, whether or not some of the origins may be a bit historic. They shouldn’t release just CD2 leftovers. We need to see them function as a band (not just a touring band) and a creative entity. Copy-pasting guitars to old tracks doesn’t quite do it (even though I’d love to hear all the drawer stuff, obviously), and I still think they can make better tunes than what we’ve heard from the demos so far. I hope we’ll get something from each of the sides.
  6. Holy shit, you Spanish guys. Shadow, Twat, Locomotive, AND Yesterdays? Now THIS is what I was talking about when I said shuffle the fucking playlist. This is what they did at the beginning of 2016. Fuck yeah.
  7. And a Columbo case #2: This is a Christmas present from my sister’s bf. He’s a photographer / graphic designer, so he kinda printed it and basically made a painting out of it for me, to be put on the wall. When I asked him where he’d got it, he said somewhere off the net, but I’m almost convinced this is some official litho. Now, the question is, does anyone have any idea what city/event/date/whatever this is related to? I'd just like to know what it is that I'm about to hang on my wall (yes, I still haven't put it up). Can provide a better resolution/pic if needed. Much appreciated, and that will be all for tonight, thank you!
  8. Patton Oswalt on Axl @ MTV (old) From Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/GunsNRoses/comments/1455xfj/sorry_axl_fans/ This is really funny, but does anyone have any idea which VMA he’s talking about? The only two with WTTJ I know of are 88 and 02. This description, however, fits neither.
  9. And especially The General, which definitely will be played. Err...
  10. Given I’m in the same time zone as Spain and they start around 9.30 and it’s Friday, I might be too drunk by that time to watch this thread tonight - so in any case, enjoy yourselves, folks!
  11. If you guys are into survivals, give a go to Sons of the Forest. Fricking A.
  12. Could they just... put it on Youtube? Just like that? I have no idea, I guess not.
  13. You’re not wrong, but this begs the question why don’t GNR do it exactly the way the other bands do. They surely have "the money in the bank". Hell, they made more dough in 2016 alone than in their entire previous history combined, Axl’s solo era included. Granted, to do something like this, they’d need a real, competent management, and not a bunch of hacks. Bottom line is, if they wanted to release records and videos etc. on their own, they surely could afford it. Other bands have managed, so could they. And just because there's not much money in new records any more, doesn't mean one's supposed to play just the greatest hits forever. Again, other bands release records, so can they. I have a suspicion there’s a certain idiosyncratic guy who’s not really convinced about all this, and he happens the be the one standing at the helm.
  14. Read it again. I said there could be. As in - in the future, you see? Btw I could imagine Slash keeping things secret (as per usual with this band), because I don't think he'd want to go through what Axl did before CD - the constant questions. They could have some agreement because otherwise this stuff would be all he'd be asked by both the journalists and the fans from then on. I'm not saying this is how it is, but could be. Anyway, here's to hoping. Again, nothing is impossible, and we know too little to jump to concrete conclusions.
  15. Yes, maybe not new music (or maybe he's keeping stuff under the lid to avoid people bothering him about it), but that could very well happen, see above. Folks, all I'm saying is nothing is impossible, don't lose hope. We've been through this, kind of, and we know too little to assert and claim shit. Good night.
  16. But there could be. Axl's old lyrics plus Slash's new melodies. What's the problem? Plus there was this session in Axl's house - are you sure you know exactly what they were doing in there? Etc.
  17. - No, Slash isn't a hired gun. Just because Axl is the boss, that doesn't mean Slash is just his employee. Axl would be fucked way more without Slash (another NuGNR with Ashba-like characters, anyone? Wow, the tickets would sell over night!) than Slash without Axl. Mind you, I’ve always been more of an Axl fan than of any other member, btw. - We have no clue as to what impact he's had. All we know is they've worked on some music. That's all. - Since Axl has stuff from the past he wants to release, I understand why he's been doing what he's doing (except for the fucking touring). Then again, that doesn't mean there can't be new tunes on the album. I've always said one way to go is if Axl gives Slash just lyrics and maybe basic tunes and lets him do his magic. That would be like almost basically a new song, why not.
