If they really wanted to get the CD2 stuff out, they should have done it between 2009 and the reunion. Post 2016, they should have kept CD2 (unreleased) in their back pocket, record an entirely new album of new material with some covers to make it easier/faster with the NITL lineup, then mix the two albums up (CD2 and NITL album) into a double album, each album having a combo of CD2 and actual new songs. They had unfinished and finished songs too (CD3) that NITL could have used. Would be a great way to transition from that era, to NITL.

For sure! I initially thought they would keep the CD-era mixes and re-do some bass with Duff and a handful of solos for Slash, instead they re-worked the songs more than I would have imagined. Even Richard needed to re-record his parts to mesh with Slash's leads. It would have been acceptable if they did a good job with mixing and mastering, but they did not. It's a tougher pill to swallow because of that. I personally think I'll only ever be satisfied with the end of the CD-era being in the form of another large leak of the post-2001 work or if they release it as bonus content somehow.

I couldn't agree more with all of your points. It's rare I hear an album in a genre I enjoy and it has more than 2 or 3 songs I really like. At this point, who knows what Guns will do. If they want their NITL reheated CD singles included on an album with additional CD era songs and/or actual new stuff, they will at the very least need to remix and master the songs so they don't sound awful next to one another. An example is Perhaps being much quieter than the brick walled Hard Skool and The General. They need to utilize professionals for the mixing and mastering. The 2008 album was not perfect, but it did have a great master, and an OK mix. (Needed the bass guitars cranked though, IMO) The quality of The General is actually so bad, it's distracting. I can hear the clipping, for those who can't or are not sure what it sounds like, it's like the snap cracker and pop of Rice Crispies, but a little sharper, and in this case during percussion.

2006 Axl! 2006 Axl with the 2002 lineup would be the best Guns lineup IMO.

It was mentioned around the time of the reunion that Axl had a lot of material, and he wanted to get it out there before they write actual new material. This makes sense too, as so far it is what we have gotten from the NITL lineup. I wish they had released CD2 right before the reunion and toured it but it didn't work out, and they had plenty of opportunity to between 2010-2014 (or whatever). So that's on them, or someone. Hard to say who. Even things Axl says doesn't always come to fruition, which may or may not be his fault, in part or whole.

Who doesn't have that list at this point? Interestingly enough, Berlin or Oklahoma is not on that list, at least under that name. But I believe at that time, a "third album" was planned, and songs bounced between the first three albums.

There's plenty! We have not even heard half of CD2 yet. Conservatively, we got at least half a dozen "new" songs to go.

Well, I do believe CD2 was in "final form" as in ready to be released around the time the 2008 album was. It's more of a matter of did NITL touch it or not? I don't think they worked on Hard Skool, Absurd, Perhaps, The General, and Monsters because they needed to be finished, rather, they just wanted their playing on it since they are currently in the band.

Curious, would a band like Guns have archival or older reference mixes retained of songs they change over the years? For example, if they wanted to compare NITL Monsters to 2010 Soul Monster, is that easily done? Not sure what is the industry standard in whatever software they use for mixing. But I’m sure it would be advantageous to have multiple mixes to compare to and hold for potential future special releases.

The less the CD stuff gets touched by NITL, the better IMO. (Just release it as is)

If Hard Skool ends up on an album (hopefully it will get a remix if so), I hope they have credits so we can figure out who/what played drums.

Not bad for a Monday! Do you know what would make it better? I do. How about CD2, pre Bumblefoot? Maybe some day! I'd be cool with a Bumblefoot CD2 as well, as Bucket would still be on a majority of it, much like the 2008 album.

Killing Floor wasn't bad. I'm digging the longer track lengths.

I like him on one or two songs. (Ides Of March, the song, is pretty good) I didn't like any of the stuff he did on Slash's 2010 solo album.

Probably. Yes, some of the life of the songs was sucked away from the 2000-2003 (or whatever) demos to the 2008 final mixes. Now, it's even worse with the CD2 stuff, as a lot of it is from the same period as the 2008 album, and on top of already being bloated and overproduced by 2008, the NITL re-working and shit production adds an even more fucked element to them.

I wonder what earlier versions sounded like, I believe it was significantly different from what we have heard.

No doubt! I've heard pregnancy from rape is rare, but not sure on the stats. I happen to know a woman who was the result of a rape. I went to school with her. Her father was the rapist. I don't know of her father's relationship to her mother (the victim) then, could have been random. I can't imagine how difficult that was. My understanding is my friend had some struggles growing up, but is doing well and I believe she has a family now.

I'm really sorry that happened to you. and your child. I hope the assailant was brought to justice. (He deserves far worse, of course) I'm friends with a woman who was attacked by a man who attempted to rape her. She was able to fight him off, but he got away and raped other women before he was ultimately caught. Fucking savages need to be put down like rabid animals.

I couldn't agree more! It is further saddening that his work on the follow-up album has not been realized officially, save for a few seconds in Perhaps, but that's a different story. I'm still holding out hope we get to hear the older mixes of "newer" songs with Robin and Buckethead on them, whether by leaks or ideally, in some official box set as bonus content.

That is some of Robin's best work, as is Better. Better and TIL are my favorite CD songs. (Not including the Village leaks, I love Robin's work on Zodiac 13, Perhaps, and Hardschool as well)

I prefer the cleaner, more natural album version. The remix sounds too forced, he's basically screaming the entire song.
