  1. if a person has been acting a certain way for 30 years, would you bet on them to dramatically change their ways or accept that this is probably, for whatever reason, how they choose to be/are? I don't think Axl is ever going to be prolific so what's the sensible thing to do here if not to accept it for what it is and lower your expectations?
  2. oh I didn't think you were and even if you did, that would have been fine
  3. some posters seems to think differently so in case it wasn't obvious to everyone, just shared my opinion on it. you'd think Axl is downright delusional going by some of the posts in this thread and I think he's not detached from reality as some here may like to think he is.
  4. "this is a new song I wrote 20 years ago" introducing Absurd that one time. pretty sure Axl knows.
  5. sometimes people lose interest in visiting a forum on the internet. it seems likely that Wendi got upset and never came back here again. it happens all the time.
  6. yeah I think both these performances are cool and Slash sounds great on both. it is what it is. he's not always on like he used to be imho, but even if you agree with that, what is Slash supposed to do? put his guitar down cause he's not as brilliant as he used to be or practice being more accurate when that's not what he wants to do? it's cool to disect music if that's what you want to do, but you can't change how a player sounds like. you always have a choice as a listener to accept it for what it is or just listen to Slash in the 80's/90's if his current playing bothers you so much.
  7. I guess you meant theory with the harmonic minor. Slash knows basic theory and a bunch of scales. his technique improved compared to when he was younger. the way he plays now doesn't have much to do with what he knows imo, it's just less inspired and maybe has something to do with the fact that he's sober now like he talked about. it's an easy solution to play faster and more notes when you don't have a clear idea on how to continue your musical direction when you're soloing, which sometimes Slash does now. he doesn't lose direction all the time. I don't disagree that nowdays it's not as good as it was, he didn't stay at the level he was at his peak imo. I think his aim is to still be a melodic player but it doesn't always happen and he said that nowdays sometimes he rushes live from excitement because he's not drinking anymore. could be true or he just doesn't feel it as much anymore most of the time like he used to for whatever reason.
  8. for what it's worth, I think it's a cool pic and the dude didn't ruin it imo.
  9. for you. my favorite version though. I even prefer it over the Howlin' Wolf classic. edit: but how can it be "futile" when Slash's version seems to bring a lot of joy to so many people? silly take, no offense. I guess you were just trying to give praise to Jimi's version but I still disagree
  10. it's not that only one type of playing is the only good type. Hendrix was sloppy and Page was as well. sometimes you can call it loose, and those types of players are often adventerous in their playing. Robin is sloppy too. some think he can barely play. others praise his style of playing. Slash had a rare balance between tight and loose back in his peak. Now I agree it's different, maybe more mistakes. I thought this performance was great, but for me it's the overall vibe of the performance. I also think Slash took what Jimmy Page was doing and made it tighter and added his own thing to it. If you like more accurate playing and it's one of the factors that is important for you, that's fine. but like EVH said, there are no rules. (Eddie wasn't really into Hendrix because he thought he was too sloppy, depends on what you prefer as a listener) look what Zeppelin achieved with Page and what Jimi did with his choice to throw caution to the wind and just play in the moment. none of this shit is an excuse as there were players like Jeff Beck who had everything but sometimes, maybe often, he also crashed and burned in live performances cause he was pushing himself beyond what was comfortable to play. a big part of guitar playing in the genre of blues for example, the style and personality of it is the little imperfections when a player bends a string, you can call it out of tune and when you're playing isn't on time, a little behind or a little ahead, that also gives it its own thing. sometimes its sounds bad, but you don't have to play an instrument to know what you like and what you just don't give a fuck enough about if at all for it to ruin the experience for you.
  11. Tokyo Vice season 2 - what a fuckin' show. it's half in english and half in japanese and it's been a while since I've watched a show like this. based on a true story, the main character is played by an alright american actor. the real talent though is the rest of the cast, especially the japanese and korean actors. the star of the show is definitely Sho Kasamatsu who plays Sato, a Yakuza member. Highly recommended.
  12. yeah so money is the reason. why just do it for the fans if you can sell that signed glossy photo, but very cool for you that you were able to take the picture with Tracy and the love child of Robin Williams and Mr. Lebowsky.
  13. when it comes to covers, I'm more interested in Gn'R doing a more eclectic second cover album. like TSI had "Since I Don't Have You", it wasn't just "punk gone hard rock" thing, so for example, if Wichita was a part of the tracklist and every member got to choose at least a couple of covers they're into from more than just one genre (Axl, Slash, and Duff gets to choose to be clear) that would be something with a lot of potential cause Gn'R did a lot of great covers live imho over the years. I love blues, I just think that Gn'R is capable of doing a more interesting cover project when it's not just one genre and they also get to try maybe venture outside their comfort zone while also covering songs in their comfort zone which is hard rock imo. but Wichita showed, at least for me, that Gn'R could capture magic in multiple genres and that's what I'd like them to do in that scenario. like a blues, hard rock, punk, and American country for example.
  14. I think that maybe once Axl gained enough control and after the whole Chinese recording process and how he wasn't satisfied with how it was released (regardless of who was to blame for that) shit changed. just like you can expect Slash and Duff to keep touring and releasing records for the foreseeable future cause that seems like a natural process for them, like many musicians, I think you can expect Axl to mostly do the tours for money and everything that has anything to do with releasing original material is secondary to him living a comfortable life. this doesn't mean that Axl never writes music and lyrics and records some stuff, just that it's possible that he does that when he feels like doing it cause if he operated like this for more than 15 years now, it probably means there's no rush for him to do anything musical anymore which again, doesn't mean he completely lost interest, but he doesn't seem to need to create and share his music on a regular basis like most musicians, like Slash and Duff do. speculation.
  15. If it's for prostitutes and cocaine, then I fully understand. Anything else, though, how dare he.
  16. the actual Purple Aki is still alive, I think he meant Pappytron.

  18. I can only speak for myself, but from my own experience, just in general, I found that acceptance seems difficult. especially when you don't want to do it. easier to not accept reality and to find fault with anyone but yourself. it extends to shit people are attached to, even if it's just entertainment. the gap between what they want it to be and what it really is makes it too frustrating for them, especially when they feel entitled cause other sources provide more of what they expect to get or function in an approach that they find more reasonable. shitting on someone or something is also an effective coping mechanism for many, a chance to blow off some steam cause life is hard and some people don't shy away from using whatever ability to have to lighten the emotional everyday load. like playing a victim and bitch crying, or laughing about it. I believe you can reach the point of acceptance when you see how limiting and childish it is to always use defense mechanisms that keeps you locked out from fully enjoying what you have, but again it comes with the price of letting the silly shit go by being honest with yourself and a lot of people are not really interested in that cause it's easier to never grow up. (I don't think I've said anything you didn't already know in this post, I just find it an interesting topic to discuss and am in a blabbermouth kinda mood right now)
