TombRaider
I'm sure I'm not the only GnR fan who's been obsessed with Estranged at some point or another. The way I see it, this is Axl's masterpiece, the best song he's ever written. Any thoughts on this?
Towelie
In terms of epic piano ballads I prefer November Rain.Estranged is still pretty great though.
Guest NGOG
Slash's guitars couldn't be more important. It's a GNR masterpiece.

alfierose
Pretty much yes. Fans are probably divided between this and November Rain but my vote would be Estranged.
Rustycage
NO BBF option? Just kidding.I give him November Rain. Estranged is a pretty boring piece without the guitar. Very bland. November Rain is a song that can carry itself just by piano and Axl's vocals. A masterpiece.
Rdeyahlxp
What about Coma?
Rustycage
What about Coma? It's not Axl's work aside from lyrics.
mina1788
Coma is my personal #1. The last 2.30 minutes are ingenious. I also prefer Estranged over Nov Rain but that's cause the former has been used and abused by every radio station I've ever listened to.

Gordon Comstock
Musically, it's This I Love. As a whole song, it's Estranged. But that's only taking into account what we've heard, for all we know he's got more masterpieces sitting in the vault

Russel Nash
Slash's guitars couldn't be more important. It's a GNR masterpiece.Estranged demo with only the piano goin on is still Estranged to my ears.Coma instrumental is just another song, the vocals n lyrics put that song in another level. Snowmass
Doubtful he'll ever come close to another Estranged. Kick ass song....I was so happy to get it live last time I saw him. Edited June 11, 2013 by Snowmass
dalsh327
It prob. should be up there with Comfortably Numb as for as epic rock songs go.
trqster
Best ever rock song to me - just plain perfect (with UYI lineup).
WhazUp
My favorite standalone GNR tune. The piano work and guitar work is just amazing
DieselDaisy
Although I am more a fan of the Appetite style stuff, if you were looking for Axl's (as opposed to GN'R's) finest hour, you need look no further than Estranged - granted, Slash makes an important contribution. It is musically a complex piece, sectional and full of key changes. It is Axl making music like his heroes, Elton and Freddie.

AlterL
well is one of his masterpieces, for me it is Prostitute, TWAT, CITR and Estranged in different orders deppending from the day that you ask me today I would go with prostitute, tomorrow some other. It always change.
Gordon Comstock
It prob. should be up there with Comfortably Numb as for as epic rock songs go. I've gotten weird looks for saying Estranged is better than Comfortably Numb, Stairway to Heaven, any of those "greatest songs of all time", but it's true. Estranged leaves them in the dirt. stumbleine
I agree, better than stairway for sure.my personal fav is Breakdown cuz it speaks to my heart, but Estranged is the masterpiece.man, this is really why I'm still here....
DieselDaisy
It is weird how Axl decided to abandon these type of songs for CD.
alfierose
It is weird how Axl decided to abandon these type of songs for CD.Aside from the fact he seemed to want an industrial sound it ties in with his claims that Slash, Duff and Steph were criticizing his writing, most likely the big ballad type stuff.
