Is Estranged Axl's masterpiece?

I'm sure I'm not the only GnR fan who's been obsessed with Estranged at some point or another. The way I see it, this is Axl's masterpiece, the best song he's ever written.

Any thoughts on this?

Pretty much yes. Fans are probably divided between this and November Rain but my vote would be Estranged.

I give him November Rain. Estranged is a pretty boring piece without the guitar. Very bland. November Rain is a song that can carry itself just by piano and Axl's vocals. A masterpiece.

I also prefer Estranged over Nov Rain but that's cause the former has been used and abused by every radio station I've ever listened to.

Estranged demo with only the piano goin on is still Estranged to my ears.

Coma instrumental is just another song, the vocals n lyrics put that song in another level.

Although I am more a fan of the Appetite style stuff, if you were looking for Axl's (as opposed to GN'R's) finest hour, you need look no further than Estranged - granted, Slash makes an important contribution. It is musically a complex piece, sectional and full of key changes. It is Axl making music like his heroes, Elton and Freddie.

I think it's in making of estranged video Slash gets mad at Duff and Gilby for fuckin' up.

It's extremely hard to pull off in a live setting.

For a guy that didn't want to do these types of songs he sure did get upset at bad performances.

well is one of his masterpieces, for me it is Prostitute, TWAT, CITR and Estranged in different orders deppending from the day that you ask me today I would go with prostitute, tomorrow some other. It always change.

I've gotten weird looks for saying Estranged is better than Comfortably Numb, Stairway to Heaven, any of those "greatest songs of all time", but it's true. Estranged leaves them in the dirt.

Aside from the fact he seemed to want an industrial sound it ties in with his claims that Slash, Duff and Steph were criticizing his writing, most likely the big ballad type stuff.
