Naupis
Is everyone else just waiting with baited breath for the big 'N Sync reunion tonight?I miss the days when the VMA's were actually good. I even miss the yearly musings about whether GNR would show up or not.MTV should just retire the vma's already as they don't play music anymore. izzygirl
As a Backstreet Boys fan I gotta despise 'N Sync, so no. Well, I didn't even know the VMA's were today but I think they fit in MTV as long as the guys from Jersey Shore or the Teen Mom pornstar are there. I even miss the yearly musings about whether GNR would show up or not.Hadn't thought about it, but you're right. People don't even mention that anymore. Seems to be more about the fashion now, isn't it? I've seen bits and pieces over the years, but probably haven't watched the whole thing in near a decade. RussTCB
MTV has at least scored a big reason for people to talk about the VMAs again with this.

VMAs were, are and always will be a load of shite. Can't think of a single decent performance on em ever cept Nirvana doing Lithium and Oasis doing Live Forever and thats only cuz Liam was being a cunt. Guest Len B'stard
I stand corrected, that one was pretty sick, is that the one with the million lookalikes? Patience 4 Axl
There were some great moments in the past. Madonna doing Like a Virgin for example, though pretty tame by todays standards, was a big deal at the time. Axl and Elton John and Eminem's Slim Shady, were standout performances as well. Guest Len B'stard
Bunch of fuckin' smug rich people congratulating themselves on having saturated the charts with a load of fuckin' cack. Just the off-chance you get someone vaguely interesting of that day to stir things up for like 10/15 mins otherwise it's just like..."Hi, i'm such and such at the red carpet, the stars have begun to arrive and blah blah blah blah" while a bunch of fuckin' mongs in New York stand around looking like they're waiting for Christ to fall out of the sky on a jet pack, it's almost like watching Jesus Camp, it's just pathetic. Then the gossip pages in the Daily Mirror the next day, so short on actual shit to report that they go on about how Mariah Carey ordered 42 oranges and a white leather sofa for her dressing room or some such inane bollocks. izzygirl
I stand corrected, that one was pretty sick, is that the one with the million lookalikes? Yes. Also, the year Eminem sang with Rihanna until the moment Rihanna started to sing was a pretty decent performance, and the Michael Jackson one in the mid 90s, and probably a few others I don't remember now. But yes, I know what you mean. I think this kind of events were more exciting before the Internet because you couldn't see videos, performances, concerts of your favourite artists (or at least the mainstream ones) as easily and at any time. We complain about MTV not being about music anymore but if they still put music they wouldn't have a big audience anyway. People don't need to be waitting for minutes or hours to see the new video of their favourite singers.

ZoSoRose
Well, I can see this is the first and probably last time my girlfriend is happy the forum exists. I saw this a few hours ago. She loves NSYNC, we drove around and snuck into a random leasing apartment office to watch it since we have no cable. They performed for literally 2 minutes, but she is thrilled. Thanks guys. (I still like the 2002 performance of GNR better )

dalsh327
There was one year when Russell Brand was hosting that looked like they ran out of budget money to dress the place up, but this is probably a pretty forgettable music awards show. It was kind of hard to keep up with Gaga's hair, Brooklyn got to see Katy Perry jiggle, MIley was the bratty little sister trying to act sexy, and the highlight was 20 minutes of Justin Timberlake paying tribute to himself (Fallon's mention of Dick in a Box was funny) and a 1 minute boy band reunion? http://www.vulture.com/2013/08/gif-recap-of-the-2013-mtv-video-music-awards.html

Estranged Reality
i turned it on during JT's performance. like him or not, he certainly captured the energy of the crowd in a way you could feel through the tv. i've respected his sound evolution, i have a huge obsession with prince so i enjoyed that element on his last album. the n'sync thing i didn't really care about, never listened to their music, but i found the overall performance pretty cool. not really a jimmy fallon fan but i enjoyed his tribute to timberlake at the end, you can tell they're clearly really good friends and he was so happy for him. reminded me of how he couldn't contain his excitement for GN'R when he presented them in 2002.
