Axl is on Budweiser advertising

Haven't watched the commercial and probably won't bother with it.

Would like to say this though: Anyone claiming that they wouldn't be posting up a storm about "Media-Whore-Slash" if he were in this commercial instead of Axl is lying to themselves.

It's a fucking commercial, i liked the VW one. I did not like the Chipress Hill with Fergie rap thing, and to me it's worse than the PC rap played by Eto, who is a footballer and has nothing to do with music.

Slash is a media whore but not for the commercials in my opinion.

I've seen this type of comment posted numerous times, I don't see the point of it really, people have preconceived opinions about slash and not axl, axl and not slash, or about artists selling out integrity/being a media whore/whatever.

You can't try and change peoples minds or rationalize with someone who has formed an opinion based upon their own perceptions and preconceived opinions. lets just enjoy it for what it is, Axl finally getting off his ass outside of touring, and doing something!

by the way, this is good promo for Appetite for Democracy, I have already seen a number of articles that are carrying this story, also mentioning the 'upcoming' release of the DVD.

RN & Gunns-

My point is that if Slash were to do have done this exact commercial, a lot of people would be losing their minds about what a sell out he is, but since it's Axl, it's A-OK in their book.

I've always been indifferent to a lot of artists in commercials so I don't care either way myself. I prefer Axl's post-AFD/UYI material to Slash's by a long shot so I often get labeled to be "on Axl's side". This commercial doesn't make a difference to me, just as the Slash one didn't. I'm just saying that if it were Slash in the commercial instead of Axl, I believe a LOT of people would have a problem with it.

But you could say that about anything really. What if Tiger Woods wife cheated on him with 30 pornstars? People wouldn't support her like they did Tiger, or they would choose to defend her more than they did when Tiger was found guilty of adultery. It's kind of a straw-mans argument, obviously you have people from both camps up in arms over what some construe as significant events, and others think its nothing major. But people constantly saying " well if slash did this or if slash did that, its just rubbing salt in a wound that shouldn't be aggravated. It's like those that said 'What if Axl did the vw campaign and not slash, would he be a sell out then? It's a redundant road to no where that achieves nothing but more arguments, aggravation and takes focus away from the actual subject at hand.

I posted a link a few pages back to a thread discussing the Slash car commercial, it petered out after 6 pages and he wasn't bashed all that much in it either.

Most posters here aren't given enough credit for being fairly level headed. We just tend to remember the very vocal minority.

Agreed, I dont really understand the need to constantly bring up "wheres everyone now bashing Slash for being a sellout and not Axl after he did this campaign". It's redundant. Who gives a shit what they do, I think at this stage in the piece, we can all agree that both men have let us down a lot in terms of either the music they have released or their level of output of music in the past decade, moreso then a fucking commercial. As I said previously, bringing up this redundant argument takes away from the reasons perhaps why Axl chose to do this now, after all this time...

think about it.

To be fair, it's not exactly the same. The standard narrative (not for everyone :) ) has been Slash the media whore vs. Axl the integrity angel, so Axl's media whoring will naturally garner more attention and debate than Slash's.

Slash was bashed for YEARS for this kind of thing. Axl fans saying he was a sell out. Now the tables have turned. It's hilarious.

That was exactly my point in bringing that up. Not only do I agree with you on this but I believe it's VERY relavent to the discussion.

Yep, lets focus on Axl doing the same thing that Slash has done for the past decade, instead of focusing on perhaps WHY Axl chose to do it now, at all times.

Talk of music being released this year

Upcoming release of Appetite for Democracy DVD

other stuff?

seeing what the level of public interest is in Axl, etc? maybe he just loves the taste of cat piss in the morning and chose to endorse Bud cause he wanted to.

lets just keep bashing those that bashed slash and not bashed axl

Haha, it's not "bashing" and it's most certainly not the focus of the thread. It's just one point that many feel is relevant. As I said before, the commercial doesn't matter to me either way. However for the record, I think you're reading WAY too much into by saying that it could be meant to guage the publics interest and so on.

I haven't been on here long, but in recent months there has been a LOT more Axl bashing than Slash bashing. I keep seeing people bringing up the Slash bashers and crazy Axl fans, but I don't see the Slash bashers and crazy Axl fans here. (There were a few, but they're gone now.) It could have been that way in the past, but certainly not in the last months. I think maybe the Slash bashers have migrated to other forums ;)

Oh, and BTW, I find bashing very childish, from both sides.

It just doesn't seem as bad to me as you are making out but I will concede to the fact I have only posted here a couple of years. A lot of the old threads I tried to read were no longer available. I don't really care what any of them do to make money, even DJ. A lot of it is fairly amusing though...gives us something to discuss.

In other news Slash's record is out. It's not bad, maybe we should reconvene to the other thread for more constructive debate! :-D

I couldn't agree more about it being childish. I've said this several times in the past but; I've already been through this before, prior to the internet. Back in the late 80s people couldn't discuss Pink Floyd in a civil fashion. Everyone acted like you MUST chose between Dave or Roger and people would get really nasty with each other very quickly over it. I could never wrap my head that then and I sure as hell can't now.

I would perhaps say there is most likely, more to this then what we currently assume. As I said, a lot of news outlets have used this as an opportunity to almost do an advertorial on the Appetite for Democracy DVD, as well as mention the successful vegas residency that just happened, as well as using Axl's recent comments about his intention of releasing music very soon...

A three second spot that's obtained quiet a lot of interest in music, news and entertainment outlets. Not bad for three seconds yeah?

Ultimately, I'm in favour of Axl getting himself out there, even in a beer commercial with a fucked up rap version of PC.

He said some dumb shit about integrity and all that, yes it's pot meet kettle but who hasn't said some dumb shit along the way that they've come to regret down the line.

I'd like to see Axl be more active, like playing the Tonight or Late Show for example, like most everybody else.
