Popular Post Lumikki
Okay, like I mentioned in the Vienna concert thread, I met Angus Young and his wife 2 days ago and got to talk a bit to them. The topic of Axl also came up. Nothing particularly exciting was said, but I thought it was funny/interesting enough to share and some people in the Vienna thread wanted to hear about it. (Mods: Since this is mostly about Axl in general, I wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the Axl/DC section. Feel free to move the thread, if necessary) First of, to the people here who dislike and were complaining about Axl wearing so many hats and stuff: You can thank Angus' wife Ellen for Axl cutting down on that a bit recently. Ellen said she told Axl's assistant (I assume she meant Beta) to tell him to get rid of the hats and sunglasses, at least on stage. And that people want to see his eyes and face when he is up there. The lady standing next to me thanked her for doing that because "Axl has such a cute smile and people should see it." Angus' wife actually agreed and said that Axl is very sweet and that he has been nothing but a pleasure to work with so far. She also said he was very funny and brought a lot of fun into the band again. She really seemed quite fond of him. Then she went on and said that Axl came in well-prepared and he knew and would sing the songs exactly as they were on the albums. The guys in the band were confused at first, because they had been doing some of their own stuff "wrong" for so many years. But they checked and found out that Axl was right. And now they even had to re-program the teleprompters after all these years because of Axl! As for Angus, asked whether AC/DC will continue after this tour and if he could imagine working together with Axl in the future, he said that right now their focus is just on finishing this tour and nothing is planned or decided yet. He said that they're going to sit down and think about what to do after the tour is done and when they hopefully know more about Brian's situation with his hearing. Here's a picture of me with Angus and Angus and his wife with their cute dog (who was the reason I ran across them in the first place). After the concert I also met Axl (I posted some pictures of that in the Axl/DC picture thread) and from what I saw, I have to agree with Ellen's assessment. I could tell he really wasn't thrilled about being surrounded by fans wanting pictures and autographs (he even seemed a bit grumpy at first), but he pulled himself together and was nothing but professional, patient and very polite for the most part. He even smiled and laughed a bit for pictures and at some of the things people were telling him. And walked out of his way to sign some guy's car. Honestly, I don't know what it is about 2016, but it seems Axl is doing really well this year in all areas of his life and I'm very happy for him. Let's hope things keep going this way! Andy14
Great! Thanks for sharing. And tnank you Angus' wife for the "hat reduction". I've seen the pictures of you and Axl, he looks amazing there.

BadApples87
I am not blaming Axl for the AC/DC situation. Axl is having a great year. But it would have been better to see AC/DC hang it up after Brian Johnson "retired". Or at least Angus could have shown some respect for a guy who was in the band for 35 years and played on one of the greatest albums of all-time (Back In Black). Thanks for sharing I was very interested to hear their thoughts on Axl, the hat thing is funny. You can tell the band alone sounds so much better since Axl joined, he has a great ear for music so that doesn't surprise me that he brought in the original sound... was Thunderstruck always "welcome to Texas" or did Axl bring that in...I thought they had been saying "went through to Texas" since the studio release Edited May 20, 2016 by IncitingChaos

James Bond
Great little story! AC/DC has refined many of their live arrangements over the years so it's funny to hear first-hand that Axl actually confused them a bit since he learned off the studio versions. The Archer
Great story and very nice pictures. Good job on getting info out of Angus and his Missus (is she really a whole foot taller than him?) too. Axl's professionalism in how he's approached this whole thing, as well as his ability to execute, as well as work in an uncomfortable situation, even augurs well for the future, and it's great to see that AC/DC and those around the band are impressed with him. It's also good to hear that contrary to what the many new Angus haters are saying, Angus himself is still waiting to see whether Brian's situation changes. Why should Angus have to retire just because one member is injured and can't perform? How is that fair to the guys currently in the band? Axl lost his entire band, replaced everybody, replaced some positions 3-4 times over - but kept the GnR name through it all. AC/DC's legacy isn't just one dude. Brian wasn't even the original singer. Should they have retired the AC/DC brand after Bon died? The main part of any bands legacy is the music. The songs. And as long as 50,000 people - in multiple cities - are willing to pay big bucks to go enjoy the music, then why in the hell would any band in that situation even thing about retiring? It really is a bit arrogant for "fans" to tell musicians what is "best" for them and their career. Angus has been kicking ass and taking names in rock music for four decades. I think he will retire the AC/DC brand when he thinks it's the right time. That is his 100% right. I'm just glad I don't have complete strangers telling me how to live my life, or that I should retire or shut my business down.

They don't know the inner workings of a band or the relationships.

Hell, I am nearly a head taller than him (I'm actually bending down a bit on the picture) and I'm only 1.70 m. Angus' wife actually talked about the haters a bit as well. She said that people seem to think they don't realize what is being said on the internet, but they know and hear about everything and she finds it very hurtful, especially the stuff that's been said in the last couple of weeks. And yes, I'm also glad that those around the band are impressed with Axl. Especially because Angus' wife was really, really nice and down-to-earth. I was a bit surprised by that, because that is not exactly what rock star wives and model types (I'm guessing she might have been a model or something like that when she was younger, going by her face and how tall she is) are usually known for But she was great, really friendly and really easy to talk to (we actually talked in German, because Ellen is Dutch and like many Dutch people, she can speak German). So if normal, level-headed people like that are speaking positively about Axl, he must be doing something right. 4 hours ago, Kosonen said: Lumikki ja yksi kääpiö Hah!
