A really interesting article on England and its failure to come to a closure with its past as an empire:

"The United Kingdom is currently reminiscent of a team that has crashed into the OBOS league, but stubbornly claims it belongs in the Champions League. Boris Johnson's Brexit strategy is to scare the EU into accepting his terms because his powerful and large countries can live without a deal, but the EU cannot.

The United Kingdom is an example of countries that are unable to relate to their own past, can't have a future.

British voters are now sandwiched between the empire nostalgia of Boris Johnson or old man socialism of Jeremy Corbyn. Neither of the dominant political parties in the UK can handle the present, both longing for a bygone era. The irony is that the UK is perishing because of exaggerated thoughts of its own greatness."

This has as much to do with the people in England today as any stereotype of a particular nation, whether it be the French stink or Swedish women are all slags or...y'know, whatever, etc, all that other shit.

be that as it may, I don't really care about how awful Churchill was. You still stand by your argument that one accusation of Churchill being racist, supported by a handful of historically correct quotes from him, comprise "numerous Churchill fallacies"?

It is funny. You persisted in this tedious linguistic exercise, producing quite lengthy posts which I largely dismissed as these things are frankly too tedious, but once I finally went back and produced a reply, your posts are slighter and you no longer have the interest. In otherwords the linguistic game is more interesting to you than the actually content!

I don't really see that the article stereotypes the people of England, but it is certainly critical towards Boris Johnson, the Conservative party, and to some extent the Labour Party. I do agree that it paints a fairly negative picture of the current situation (and the history of England) -- quite possibly unfairly negative --  and that it does suggest that some of this is due to England not being comfortable as "just another country" in a European union after its glorious past as an empire. But that is more a criticism of (some) people voting to leave the EU rather than a criticism of all people in England.

Personally, I do think he has a point that England might have a harder time adjusting itself to EU than many other countries due to its history (although it could be really small, I don't know), and I do think the parallels between Johnson and Churchill as far as rhetorics go, are interesting and disturbing. It also seems to me that both of these large parties are failing to show a way forward and seem to be more looking back into history - but this is just a superficial view from where I am sitting.

The English have two national stereotypes, Jacob Rees-Mogg basically and drunken football hooligans.

Based on a complete historical misreading of those two political parties!

But I am not interested in hearing you fawning over Churchill - I don't care about him and the awful things he did. I find it much more entertaining to see if I can get you to come up with even more hilarious explanations for why you dismissed the article as having "numerous Churchill fallacies" when all you can come up with is that single thing that the article stated that Churchill was a racist, which hasn't been debunked, really, but is a case of ongoing discussion among historians.

If there's something that bothers me about Brexit its the idea that the people who voted for it (I ain't one of em btw) are all fuckin' thick.  There's an awful smug sort of 'haha' I'm getting from over the way that's...irritating.

I am glad not all your countrymen think as you do, and recognise his achievement in history,

Oh, I certainly recognise his achievements, but that doesn't mean I am going to fall for your flailing attempts at changing the topic when I remind you of your ridiculous claim that there were "numerous Churchill fallacies" in the article. Maybe you should read a book about him so you don't make a fool of yourself again? You stated that many of the Churchill quotes were unknown to you so this is likely a case of ignorant people having the strongest of opinions.

Brits made a fuss when your gov banned the sex act of "face sitting" in porn . This is a large part of your nations legacy where I live - 'I demand the right to have women sit on my face!!'

Yes, it was a funny choice of word from your side. Of course it was even funnier that you insisted upon there being numerous fallacies in the article, but still. Fallacies are usually used when one isn't able to think properly and makes a flawed argument. And concluding that Churchill is a racist doesn't really qualify as being a fallacy, at least not when you consider that many historians are of the opinion that he was and hence that there is an ongoing disagreement over this.

But of course, "I disagree with the claim that Churchill was a racist" isn't even close to your "numerous Churchill fallacies".

Which part? The act and its widespread popularity? The ban? The protest? Or its enduring legacy as the rightful image to be displayed on your flag?

You quoted The Guardian. Daisy loathes The Guardian. He probably consider it nothing but a part of the remainer propaganda machine. I wouldn't be surprised if he dismissed the article based on the URL alone. (Ask him if he saw any fallacies in it.) Daisy is a fan of the more tabloid, right-leaning periodicals.

Well if its any consolation to the Brits and their face sitting obsession the Norway stereotype here, as you know, is zoophilia. I guess all Europeans are super freaks?

I remember you mentioning that before. Still don't know where it comes from? It seems to be more a Danish or German stereotype. They are proper perverts, you know.

You have about the same knowledge of what periodicals I read as you do my Alma Mater and socio-economic background.

Obsessed with nudism. I once read that there are more nudists in Germany than anywhere else in the world.

Or are they having a natural relationship with nakedness and it is the guys who write about it, and especially read about it, who are obsessed with it? ;)

Jesus, Soul, give it up. You've had your daily argument with me today. There will be other days.
