What night was this? The second was half empty (top tier sectioned off), is it from this one?

There's no mention of a DVD/blu-ray release either is there? This seems quite strange to be honest.

Read before you post..

It's from the first night at the O2 London - it was sold out.

They've said it will be shown in movie theaters and released on DVD.

What seems strange?

Page 5.

I sent them a message on facebook two days ago, and got a reply today.

This is what I sent:

"Hi.

Thank you for keeping us updated on the Guns N' Roses O2 recordings. I got a couple questions about it, and was hoping you could answer them.

Will the sound from the show be edited/mixed/mastered? Or will it be a raw unedited version (like a live stream would be?)

Will the vocals (or anything else) be overdubbed by studio recordings?

Is it planned to be shown in theaters? Will it be released on DVD? Only on the internet (free?) ?"

Reply:

"Simon,

Thanks for your questions.

The sound has been mastered, but nothing will be overdubbed by studio recordings. It will be a great live experience.

Yes, it will be released in movie theaters. And yes, there will be a DVD. The VoD stream will not be free, but it will be very reasonably priced and can be watched in 720p HD quality (provided your bandwidth permits)"

Oh holy mother of fucking Jesus Shit. What the fucking fuck??!!!!

Put out ANY fucking show from 2010. ANY FUCKING ONE! Not this weak-ass, no rasp, weedy falsetto dross.

And not that I ever had a problem in the beginning with the idea of New Guns but don't advertise them with slogans that relate to the other 4 people who aren't there anymore i.e. most dangerous band in the world. Whoever put that on there and for whatever reason is a douche. It's 2012, that band isn't dangerous to anyone. It'd be like Bon Jovi calling themselves the hot ladykillers, coming to a town near you.

Actually, one thing might come out of this: all of the idiots who claim that Axl's shitty vocals in 2011 and 2012 were down to poor quality youtube recordings and that he sounded amazing at their show blasted through a giant PA with thousands of people singing along, they'll finally have to admit that what's going into the mic at the front end is the same weak-ass crap you can hear in every youtube video and brilliantly-recorded-from-near-the-back flac bootleg.

The web is full of terrible, embarassing pro-shot from the last Rio and plenty of awful performances captured in great quality on iphone 4's from the last few years. Please for the sake of fuck give us something to be proud of and put out a 2010 show.

Erm...what?

I don't get whats so hard to understand. Jordan is absolutely right. No he's not trolling. No he's not hating. I'm not trolling. I'm not hating. Axl was generally FUCKING INCREDIBLE in 2010. Don't know why - why was that particular year so standout?? I heard vocals (Rocket Queen always sticks in mind) that to me where the BEST I'd EVER heard in 2010 - better than 80s/90s even. I don't get why the vocals change so much. But only fans with blinkers on can't tell 2010 apart from all other eras.

And yes I have seen the band live numerous times including the year in question.

Please don't patronize me, I know he's not a "hater" etc im not stupid and I understand what he's saying but i completely disagree. To me, there was little to no difference in the shows I saw in 2010 versus 2012 and in fact, the Manchester 2012 was head and shoulders better than anything I've heard from him since 2006. Furthermore, I think the internet vocal mix experts WAY WAY over analyze Axl's vocals. But hey, just my opinion.

Even as a die-hard Axl Rose fan I can tell you that there was noticeably a different way Axl sounded from 2010 to 2012. In some shows, like Philly, the rasp was in full force in some songs. But, most of the time he sang with the clean vocals. I don't know if it's because he's getting older, he want's to keep his rasp for recording in the studio, or he just doesn't want to use the rasp anymore, but it went somewhere. It is unfortunate that we couldn't get the London 2010 show on DVD as well. Axl was awesome at that show.

It's great news, but I don't get it? Cinema? Sounds like only a hardcore fan will go?

It will be released on DVD as well.

I may well me in the minority then...I believe you, I just HONESTLY dont get it?

It's just a preference some have that I agree is over-exaggerated. I prefer the cleaner tone, especially on the ballads.

If anything I think Axl makes a conscious decision to not strain his chest voice to hit certain higher notes that it shouldn't be used to hit, and I think based on how he sounds, he sings with a more open throat. I understand some may prefer the raspier sound, but the way that sound is often achieved isn't particularly healthy for your vocal cords.

Ali

I have no doubt it's a choice and very sensible one.

Uk Subs: I have listened to every single New GNR bootleg since 2001 and have all that are of reasonable quality on iTunes. As you can see here I have listened to some of the Chinese songs from Lille 2010 between 30, 40 and 50 times.

Lille.jpg

There is absolutely no comparison to be made between Toronto, Lille, London, Arnheim 2010 and anything from 2011, 2012 including Pittsburgh.

If it was just a German cinema release or webstream for fans then i'd get over it. But now masses of casual fans and Old Guns fans who don't listen to bootlegs or go to multiple shows or post on message boards are going to see and buy this performance and think that Axl's voice is a complete shadow of what they used to know and frankly embarassing at times. I just can't see how this can do anything except damage his reputation even more. I'm sure the London show sounded fantastic when you were there, just as Birmingham and Nottingham did to me: it was coming through a friggin giant PA and I was singing like a nutter and drunk. But to sit and listen to the raw vocal at a more normal level betrays how terribly weak it is.

They record all the friggin shows and i'm sure they could find a 2010 show to put out even if it wasn't HD or whatever. Michael Jackson is dead and the only show they could put out from his Bad Tour was a single VHS copy he kept. Axl is alive and if he couldn't pull out a 2010-level performance knowing he was being filmed for a DVD etc then i'd rather it wasn't released. Because us hardcore fans can download all the great DVDs and bootlegs and soundboards we want and we don't need it but casual fans and critics are just going to go and see this and think Axl sounds like dog shit and it will be said and written about all over the friggin world.

Wanna link me to what you'd consider to be the three or four best 2010 bootlegs?

(I'm not being patronizing, btw. I'm actually quite curious since you seem to know what you're talking about.)

Dublin '10 is the best I've heard Axl sound overall since 1993.

Disagree completely. A "weak" voice cannot sustain a note like the last note in the final chorus of "This I Love" as long and with as much strong, resonant vibrato as Axl does and I heard personally when I saw the band in LA last year.

As far as what critics may say, I don't think that will necessarily be the case. Rollingstone gave a glowing review of his vocals based off of a bootleg of the 2011 Indianapolis, IN show.

The problem is if you have in your mind that quality equals possessing a particular tone you prefer or consider essential, i.e. the raspier vocal tone, then any vocal performance that does not contain said tone will be considered substandard. While that is undoubtedly your right to have that preference, that does not mean that your opinion will be universally shared or that one preference or another is "correct".

As you can hear, the 2012 performance is weaker. I don't know, but the 2010 performance has a powerful voice. Both performances are alright, but the first one is miles better.

With powerful songs like YCBM you can clearly notice that Axl's voice has decreased.

Axl approved the video, sound and all, and wants to put it out. He sounds terrible but hey, if that doesn't bug him and he wants to put it out, good for him.

You know boys, you can reply without quoting!

Axl8302: No I didn't cry when I wrote that last sentence. But I did cry at the Docklands 2002 when Axl stood right in front of me and sang 'I'm free of all the chains...' then kept eye contact with me through half the solo.

EstrangedReality: I don't keep the Flacs, just convert to 320 for iTunes. I could upload though I don't have much time at the moment. Ad you can see i rate the songs and one day i'm wanting to put together a massive 'Best Of New Guns Live'. You're right about Dublin in that he stood/sat still so he sounded even more amazing than usual that night, same as Donnington 2006. However, his delivery was robotic because he was so pissed off. I'll do my best for you in the next week. I mean, there are so many highlights I have played to death, for instance: If The World from Toronto 2010 where he hums and oohs over the last pre-chorus then comes back in with this giant undulating scream. In other versions he sang random bits of other peoples' songs over the breakdown.

Ali: I hear what you're saying and I understand what you mean about what's technically 'strong' and my preference not necessarily being to everyone's likeing and I take your point about the RS bootleg review. However, if I had the time I could post any performance of Madagascar or This I Love from 2010 where he sang and held 'we held togetheeeeeeeeerrrrrrooooooohhhhhoooohhhohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh' and 'found myself within her eeeeyyyyyeeessssssssss' for absolutely ages in a way he never ever did for Madagascar before even in 2006. He was on fire and it sounded like classic Axl that we all grew up on. In 2012 he still usually tries to hold those notes in the same places in his clean falsetto voice and I don't really care about the technicalities of whether his voice is still strong or not: it sounds comparatively weak as fuck.

I commend him for saving his voice by singing clean and I racked up hundreds and hundreds of playcounts of Madagascar from the clean-voice 2002 soundboards and Albany DVD but if we're talking about the first ever new Guns DVD and a worldwide cinema release I think Axl Fucking Rose needs to come to the party, not Axl singing clean high falsetto. I love the fuck-you of the Skeleton Mickey t-shirt, I love Madagascar from Cleveland 2002, I had a blast at the shows this year I just wish they'd put out Axl sounding like he sounded from 1986-1993 which is what Jow Public will want and react favourably to, in general.

Not to spam but, I went to see Shine A Light, I went to see Flight 66 and I just went to see Celebration Day (Stones, Maiden and Zep concert films at motion picture movie theatres) and took friends to each one who weren't fans and was massively proud, especially or Bruce Dickinson and Robert Plant.

I wont even go see this myself, let alone take anyone else.

As you can hear, the 2012 performance is weaker. I don't know, but the 2010 performance has a powerful voice. Both performances are alright, but the first one is miles better.

With powerful songs like YCBM you can clearly notice that Axl's voice has decreased.

well axl is old so it hard for him to do that voice

Yea he was a lot younger two years ago

The bolded and italicized sentence is exactly my point. Do I think his voice sounded closer to the UYI days in 2010 as compared to 2012? Sure. Do I prefer that sound? No, not especially. Particularly on the ballads.

Exactly, so the "Axl is old" excuse won't work. Sorry.

Axl sounds like shit in this video. Management should be stopping this from ever being released. They should release the 2010 London show.

Put the 2010 show out! I feel sorry for all the posters who missed the 2010 shows.
