Sixes
At this point, I don't listen to much GNR but if I did, UYI 2 would be my pick. I've never liked Lies and I can't stomach AFD anymore, it's so dated and cheesy to me.
Strange Broue
Nowadays i just prefer UYI IIBut if we see the whole "picture" then i vote for AFD and Lies
seely
Overall, UYIWider range of material - you still have the aggressive AFD rock stuff (YCBM for example) along with the more experimental and adventurous material (Coma, Estranged) and various bits inbetween.AFD and Lies are great, but I find myself going back to the UYI stuff more as far as studio recordings go. I find myself listening to more of the live version of the big 3 UYI tracks. That said, AFD got me into music in the first place...

DieselDaisy
Easiest question to answer in the world. Illusion does not even deserve to be talked about in the same sentence as Appetite.
Free Bird
Easiest question to answer in the world. Illusion does not even deserve to be talked about in the same sentence as Appetite.I'd easily prever Lies over UYI I.AFD is their ultimate album. Stripped down rock n roll without any overdubs and shit.
Klay
AFD was true, mean, raw, in your face but the UYI saga is just out of this world for me.
Sixes
AFD was true, mean, raw, in your face but the UYI saga is just out of this world for me.it was far from raw...it's one of the most slickly produced albums of that time
RockerRoller
Dude afd vs uyi? Shit there's several songs they didn't put on afd and used for uyi Instead. Come on mane
MEXzilla
Illusions but if we had gotten a full album with original material like Lies the it would be a bigger argument.
sweetness
They're both great for different reasons, the AFD/Lies era is on top for me though

DR DOOM
Probably the Illusions, as there's a good mix of rocking stuff akin to AFD and alongside the epic piano songs and Izzy numbers.I must admit I rarely listen to AFD these days ( bootleg will be the go to usually ) but that's not because I don't like the album- it just suffers from being full of the standards you've heard a bajillion times, like Sabbath's Paranoid or Led Zep IV. RandallFlagg
Illusions, the variation and ambition is demented, don't get me wrong Appetite and Lies are great, great records.
MYWIFEMYLIFE
Illusions, very easily.I like AFD and Lies a lot, but all the different directions and styles in the Illusions, make it an easy choice.I like 1 more than 2 by the way

Charlie Underbite
Come on. I know Appetite has been played to death but jeez...It's one of the best rock albums of all time! The UYI's are good but they don't compare. Why do people feel the need to try to be different, like in a hipsterish sort of way? No touching AFD, it's a classic! ludurigan
Come on man!Appetite is the best rock n' roll album ever. It's right up there with Back in Black, Powerslave, I Hate Freaks Like You, Pump, and Road To Ruin.UYI is great but it is also not great. There is 1 UYI song that would fit in Appetite and this song is You Could Be Mine. There is 1 UYI outtake that would fit in Appetite and this song is Ain't Going Down. Both songs were written on the Appetite "era".
