When you get to that legendary status, becoming THAT big, you just can't keep the whole "bad boy- down in the dirt, cool not give a fuck" attitude off anymore because it isn't there. You're rich and famous, your big songs are now known by children and teenagers all over the world, companies want your shit for sponsorships, etc. You become a part of pop culture at that point.You think the Stones haven't sold out, Aerosmith? Van Halen? Paul McCartney? U2? AC/DC? Etc. They've all done ads, collaborations, promotions, etc that you can say is "selling out". Hell, even Jimmy Page who was notorious for keeping Zeppelin close to his chest has licensed Zep out for commercials and played with Puff Daddy. Its just how shit is.
