  1. How do people still post shit like this? Listen to the Live Era vocals, If The World, The Blues, IRS... he never lost the rasp in the CD era. He nailed the raspy vocals when he went for them, the problem was that he rarely went for them. The LALD screams never sounded better, he could pull off the rasp effortlessly on songs like The Blues and OTGM... but of course he used the clean voice most of the time. Which is why it's weird that you say he should've seen a vocal coach - he probably did, and was probably told that the 01-02 approach was the key to longevity. That was literally Axl singing with a healthier technique, but it didn't translate well to songs like WTTJ, YCBM, etc so he changed it up in 2006. 2006 was rasp-heavy, and the 2007 shows were weaker but still good. 2010 was UYI-levels at times, and obviously he went cleaner in 2011 - but he could still seemingly flip the switch and nail the rasp. The late 2014 shows sounded as good as the 2016 shows. The only time he really pushed himself too far (at least in the last 25~ years) was the AC/DC tour followed by constant NITL touring, and we all saw the damage that did. And really, you don't have to look beyond the AFD tour to see the damage he was doing. I love the 1991 shows but he sounds just brutal on some of them, plenty of UYI shows were cancelled because he blew his voice out, and he was working with Ron Anderson back then. The way he abused his voice coupled with age meant it was probably only a matter of time until he ended up sounding like he does today... But we wouldn't have got the AC/DC tour if he hadn't maintained his voice at some level for a long time. Unfortunately these days there's just not much left to maintain.
  2. You're Crazy You Ain't The First Patience Wichita Lineman Knockin On Heaven's Door That would be my ideal acoustic set. It would also be cool as a first encore, cut the main set a little short then follow that with maybe SOYL and PC.
  3. Aside from the singles they've released in the NITL era, we can assume these would've been on CD2: Atlas Going Down Tonto Cuban Skies Nothing Monstrocity Thyme OMG There's also titles like State Of Grace, Berlin, Down By The Ocean, Seven, and probably a couple others I'm forgetting...
  4. What recent events? Slash is touring from January through April, and then he'll probably start promoting that 'bluesy' solo album with guest singers. They could get into a studio between now and the end of the year, but I doubt it. If a new album happens somewhere down the line, great... but don't hold your breath. I think the best case scenario for actual new music would be one song with Axl (and maybe Duff) on Slash's next album.
  5. That's great and all, it's nice that they're enjoying themselves, but it comes down to Axl's physical ability to sing these songs and I just can't see that lasting another 10 years. Forget about songs like Reckless Life and TWAT, I don't even think we should expect him to be singing PC, LALD, etc in his 70s. Realistically they'll need to do shorter legs of tours with more days off between shows, and definitely no more back to back shows. I wouldn't be surprised if future tours are much more spread out: tour on the east coast for a few weeks, take a month off, tour on the west coast, take another month off, and so on. They could stretch out a farewell tour for a couple years by doing something like that, which I think is probably what will happen in 2025/26/27...
  6. I thought Slash was focusing on the solo album with guest singers after the SMKC tour...
  7. Yea I remember the mock-up stage design, but I think it was Brain that said he'd play the new songs and Frank would play the old. So even if there was 2 kits on stage I don't think they were ever gonna play songs together. I'll have to look up the quote though, I think it was from around the same time he mentioned the remixes...
  8. Yea, the 'drum battle', it was the most enjoyable part of the show most times I've seen them. GNR planned that in 2009 I think, Brain would play the CD songs and Frank would play the old songs, pretty sure they wouldn't have been playing songs at the same time. It would've been a stupid decision and they were right to abandon the idea, but I guess Axl was just trying to find something for Brain to do besides remixes?
  9. I've seen Godsmack a few times at festivals, they're a solid live band. They're worth seeing at least once just for the drum solo.
  10. Didn't a couple full songs eventually get posted online? There was a LALD video that I think was from this show, and Welcome To The Bumble... I haven't seen either in ages though. They were technically pro shot but not the kind of videos that are shown on the screens...
  11. They started around 10:00 when I saw them in 2010 and I thought wow, he's early! I saw 4 of the Vegas residency shows between 2012-14 and I don't think they ever hit the stage before midnight. The 2014 shows might've been close to midnight though. The shows were always worth it.
  12. Do you think the whole thing sounds like NITL Axl? I think Monsters was pretty obviously recorded in the early-mid 2000s, probably around the same time as songs like Better and Sorry, but The General seems earlier than that. I'd guess 2001-02, his clean voice is different and not as strong as 1999 or 2006, but it's close to how he sounded at some 2002 shows. It's been coated in effects like OMG (and to an extent, the other NITL singles) but it seems obvious to me that it's an early 2000s take...
  13. Wow, I don't think I could disagree more about this. Since the first time I heard it, I thought it was obvious these vocals are from the early 2000s. Just like the other songs, this is CD-era Axl coated in effects. It immediately reminded me of the weaker 2002 shows. And in the context of this tour, he didn't sound too bad on the live version, but 'just like he did on the leak' is quite a stretch...
  14. I posted this elsewhere, but I think the NITL singles (and maybe Atlas or some other leftovers) will be released on their next album... and that album will be a 2CD / 4LP Greatest Hits or Best Of. Would anyone here be really be surprised if they went the Aerosmith route and released an expanded Greatest Hits to tie in with a farewell tour? Nobody expects Axl to be performing these songs in his 70s, do they? The end is definitely getting closer, I wouldn't be surprised if the next tour (probably 2025) is marketed as a very long farewell tour... do some '40 Years Of GNR' shows in 2027 and shut it down after that. Assuming Axl's voice even lasts until then... That said, I enjoyed the show in Vancouver this year. Songs like Pretty Tied Up, Absurd, Bad Obsession, Wichita Lineman, Down On The Farm, Don't Cry... his natural voice is still powerful and enjoyable. But the raspy highs are gone unless he's screaming at the top of his lungs, which he can't do for a full song anymore. He needs at least a few days between shows now. His voice just isn't gonna last that much longer... it is what it is, unfortunately.
  15. Honestly, one of the most surprising things about this thread is that people still rip songs from youtube and soundcloud
  16. Actual leaks, full songs with Slash and Duff on them. Monsters = Soul Monster. It's definitely the better song...
  17. First time since 2006 Axl has played a song that hadn't been leaked years earlier. Credit where it's due, he's giving 100% on that outro and really taking a chance on an unreleased song. He would've killed The General, Soul Monster, Hardschool, etc at any time between 2001-2010 but it's better late than never... honestly this is more than I expected from this era of the band, it's great so see them do something like this again.
  18. "Ok, so we're gonna try a new song... one I haven't sang since this tour started somewhere this spring. This could be very interesting. If there's ever a better place to fall on your face, I think this fuckin' counts... this is called The General."
  19. When did this become a fact? There was some videos with the chorus backing vocals but I don't think we ever heard Axl sing it during a sound check. The pre-recorded vocals mixed with Duff and Melissa made some people think Axl was there, but it definitely wasn't a fact...
  20. Also the Hollywood Palladium 2019 show according to people on here that were at the show, but there's no recording. It was also on the setlist. Mexico 2020 is just the first recording we have of it.
  21. It wouldn't make much sense, but they were apparently sound checking Hardschool at some of the 2019 shows... so it might still be a while until they play it. I'd like to be wrong though.
  22. Cool that they actually sound checked it. If they play it, what are the chances Axl uses the studio effects on the chorus? He's done it before and it's not uncommon among big artists... and it would probably sound better than straight up mickey...
