I was there, right on the fence at the front.

Axl coming down and running past the fence twice with his hands out to all the fans made my year! I'll never wash my right hand again!

Meanwhile, did any one else not hear through the mega phone at the end that they cancelled their Leeds appearance on the spot due to tonight's treatment by the organisers?!

This band is not professional, there is no reason for going on late at all. Axl should make the extra effort to be on time for a festival. This is retarded. Anyone who thins it's awesome is an idiot, sorry.

No, I mean they literally told him during the Nightrain solo, through his ear piece. He just presumed he could pay a fine and carry on. That's why he was pissed.

And for those who may not believe ...

Well we all knew it was going to happen so why didn't Axl?

I think Axl called the promoters bluff and lost out. Tough shit, he knew rules, even we did this time.

Jungle

Nice one, the band and Axl sound good, shame it can't be shown on TV.

Whatever way you look at it, that is pretty shitty and unprofessional of them to just tell them literally 1 minute before they did it.

right guys, just got back from reading, what an eventful night. Their set didnt start off to a good start obviously because of the extra hour it took them to hit the stage, my friend told me via text that it was something to do with them not wanting it filmed or something. But i cant comment because i dont know what went on.

The obviously kicked off with chinese democracy which didnt do much to get the crowd going after waiting all that time, then jungle came on, now im not sure if jungle is normally played staright after chinese democracy but it seemed to get the crowd into things. There wasnt much booing at all throughout their set, and some good reactions came when they played Sorry and This I Love.

But it all went downhill when the solo to nightrain started and i think Axl said "thats it" and walked off. At that point i dont think anyone knew that anything was up, but oh boy did i know. It really pained me to see these guys trying to play to the crowd, they even got down to play to the front for god sake. Ron went almost instantly and grabbed his acoustic guitar. DJ seemed furious and threw a micstand and Frank started smashing at his drums. It was a shamble the way it was dealt with, to just pull the plug like that is ridiculous. I know they came on late but we really dont know for what reason yet. So before people jump down Axl's throat, lets see what gets said first.

But in conclusion i thought the band sounded awesome, and was quite surprised that Sorry and This I Love were played. Also they tried to start playing Better when the sound was mostly cut off, could hear DJ playing the intro just and could see Axl singing, but that stopped pretty quick when they realised it wasn't getting heard. The sit down protest for me was both awesome but i was shocked at how the sound being pulled was handled, i know their are curfews but to me it just didnt seem professional.

Im sorry if this post was incoherrent but ive only just got in after being sent out of the wrong exit at reading and standing up all day to see gnr. Man im so glad that i have tickets to see them at the o2, but i feel for everyone else whose only chance was tonight. i'll post some more stuff tommorow.

edit: for those who think that some members might be pissed off and such, would they have tried to continue playing if this was all axl's fault? of course not. But im telling you especially DJ and Ron did not look happy. I didnt see much off Tommy actually. These guys were playing awesome tonight, Ron was killing it.

While i was walking out their was a lot of positive reaction to the band, a lot of people were saying that Axl and the band sounded great!

Great review. Thanks man.

Clears some stuff up

yea I kinda wanna hear what really happened at the show lol...GNR needs to respond or else people are just gonna blame it all on Axl. I just don't know what to think but...at the end of the day too many late starts are just plain rediculous.

Does any body know why DJ hurled his mic stand into the security at the front of the stage? I wasn't watching him before I see him do it so I don't know if something they did prompted him to or not. Crew on stage grabbed him before he could do any more damage as it looked as though he wanted to go down and fight with them.

Any body else up front notice this?

Fuckin' wild show it was!

What to say, so much good could have come from this, but seeing the video of them trying to do paradise city is embarassing. I feel sorry for all the band members, its one thing turning up late for your own crowd, but to a festival is just idiotic, when you think of the effort and hard work gone into making this band what it is right now, its clear its not been easy, hence how long its taken, Then you get dj saying how exited he is about reading, and bumble doing his meet and greets here and there, this is just a big kick to them and the fans, again. Who knows what happened or why they were late, but for all the toubles over the past 25yrs there is one common denominator.

Dont be embarresed Be Proud they did what they came to do and that was give the fans a full show sound or no sound.

I get so sick and tired of everyone saying this is "epic" or whatever.

It was a STUPID move by Axl and the band if they where involved them being late. They knew the curfew and showed up late and ran over. It's GNR's fault plain and simple they where the unprofessional ones not the promoter for pull the plug they told them up front.

Now what would have been EPIC is to show up on time play a monster set that would run over and then done the set in thing. Now that would have been a statement!!! And let BBC show it live. Now imagine what the response would be if they showing up on time then playing a kickass set list that lasted past the curfew on purpose! That would be rock and roll and show respect for the fans!!!!!.

But hey Axl doesn't want to do it the easy way he always seems to fuck things up.

You think your opinion changes everything you are the same as us in your special way you want axl to be a tool for the promoter and bbc so you can benefit from it with watching a live stream of GNR Well let me burst your bubble it aint going to happen Buy a TICKET!!

To be perfectly honest I had NO plans to watch the show live! I have a life and things to do with my kids this afternoon so that is a mute point. And I know what your come back will be to that, "you could watch it later". I could give one rats ass about seeing it, if it happens fine if not then thats fine too. That is how I take GNR now a days if they come anywhere close to me I will go if not that fine too and the same goes for them releaseing a new album, if it happens I buy it, if not what have I missed nothing. I just come to the board from time to time to see what is going on.

It would be impossible for me to buy a ticket because I live in the US so that is a mute point also.

No I don't think Axl should be a "tool" for promoters or BBC all I was saying is the way it went down is not 'epic" or "rock n roll" to me it was stupid on guns part. Like I said if they wanted to make a statement then why not go on stage on time blow everyone away with a 3-4 hour set that makes them pull the plug. That would also make Axls point and be a positive thing for the band in media and fan base. Who wouldn't rather see it go down this way???????

I would have just like for this to be done in a way that would have cast a positive light on GNR which is so sorely needed right now.

I know this is my opinion but like everyone says "opinion are like assholes everyone has one" and I am intitled to mine just as much as you are intitled to yours.

Were you there?

I honestly heard Axl say this with my own ears. If you weren't right at the front you wouldn't have been able to hear what was being said from the mega phone. Luckily I recorded it on my camera so lets hope the grainy sound quality still enables the 'mega phone rant' to be heard once I upload it to my computer.

Another stupid move! If true!

It just seems he is digging a hole he will never get out of.

I don't like being negitive in my post I have supported GNR (Axl) since I got into them back in 1987 but damn enough is enough do something positive for a change!

Let's not jump to conclusions quite yet.

When a member of this board who were backstage reported that Axl stood on the side of the stage at 9.30, presumably ready to go on, there could've been circumstances for the delay which were out of the band's control.

If this is indeed true, set yourself in Axl and the band's place. Wouldn't you be pretty fuckin pissed off if you were forced to cut your set short because of someone else's fault.

I don't think he'll cancel Leeds but it wouldn't surprise me.

I am in the camp that he made that Tweet about the canceled tour and someone managed to talk him down in the meantime.

If that was his frame of mind, something like this could be enough to send him over the edge. It is entirely of his own doing and he is not a victim, but I suspect that is not what he is hearing from his inner circle right now which only increases the likelihood of further erratic behavior.
