Is English-Axl incredibly cool or incredibly lame?

Recommended Posts

I'm playing some TSI at the moment. On Down On The Farm Axl seems to really get into the UK Subs English vibe. So, Axl's English accent on that song, really fucking awesome or just really lame?

I'm fucking loving it! He should do more brit-punk shit like this!

Down on the Farm is brilliant! I also love the Black Leather song.

Back in '06 Axl could still pull out DOTF quite brilliantly...

DAT VIDEO QUALITY :wow:

Speaking of Soho, came across this funny story from HTGTH the other day:

November 13th, 2006 - Baltimore, MD @ 1st Mariner Arena

Axl introduces You Could Be Mine by telling a story "So I was in England, I was walking around the Soho area there, and this young guy with spiky hair and shit, had a Motley Crue t-shirt and shit, comes running. He's like 'Dude! Dude! Dude! Dude!' Pulls his shirt down and he had tattooed right across, Fit To Burn".

I wish they'd release something like this instead of that soulless Vegas trainwreck. This is ace.

I've always loved Down on the Farm, his accent too. I'm curious, does it sound accurate to British listeners ? I just did a search on it and there was a poll here in 2003:

Poll: How do you rate Axl's vocals on "Down on the Farm"
How do you rate Axl's vocals on "Down on the Farm"
  1. they're cool, I like 'em
  2. aweful, he should have never attempted the accent

Unfortunately, I can't vote or see the results :shrugs:

That'd be cool indeed to know from British guys over here - to me (non native English speaker) he sounds convincing for the most part…

Guest Len B'stard

I love the way he suddenly turns into a scouser when singing the lines 'blues skies and swimming poo-wuls'

the down on the farm cover is one of my favs from TSI.

the song is about being in rehab and not being able to drink and fuck.

and the way Axl sings, regardless of fake accent,is awesome.

that album is,as time goes by,becoming better and better in my ears.

but is it soho,London he's singing about?

i for some reason thought it was new york.

I don't think any singer should do a different accent unless it's a cover like Down on the Farm or if they're just trying to be funny maybe.

I think Silkworms is a cool song but I really wish Axl didn't do a British accent on it because it doesn't make any sense. Why sing like a British person if you're not? Green Day made an entire career out of doing it and it pisses me off.
