liers
My issue with street of dreams is that the 2001/2002 version was such a great, upbeat song, while the album version is slow and depressing.... The 2001/2002 version could've been a hit, while the album version was released as a single and failed miserably... it's just too boring.

Iron MikeyJ
Mine:1. Sweet Child O' Mine (fast tempo ballads are rare, arguably gnr's best song period)2. November Rain (epic but still captures the rawness of classic gnr)3. Don't Cry original (this song got the band signed, easy to see why. Axl/Izzy masterpiece)4. Estranged (epic, powerful, Axl/Slash at their best)5. Patience (catchy acoustic ballad, Axl really shines) 6. TWAT (epic, powerful, Axl getting the best out of Bucket/Finck, best NUgnr song)7. Breakdown (Always been a personal fav of mine)8. This I love (I think Axl wrote an amazing, honest song. Finck does a great Slash solo) 9. Since I don't have you (I love the Axl/Slash combo on this cover, truly amazing)10. Tie: Catcher & Knockin' Catcher in the rye (Another great song written by Axl, the first time I heard it I loved it. One of my fav NUgnr songs)Knockin' on Heavens Door (despite the fact that I am pretty much sick of this song, it is a great cover version. The classic band really made this song something special)
GivenToFly
I went with the Slow Dance method. If played at a bar, would you slow dance with your partner or fast dance. That's how I came up with my 12. That's why songs like TWAT, Yesterdays, Breakdown and Locomotive didn't make it.SCOM?

DieselDaisy
‘Ballad’ is a bit of a nebulous term really. In its original medium, it referred to medieval poetry and dancing songs. These days, it could refer to a lyrical love song, a slow song, an acoustic song - or any combination of those things. I consider Sweet Child (and Think About You) to be medium-paced ballads, but it is all semantics.
SoulMonster
I don't consider There Was A Time a ballad, otherwise it would be on top of my list.1. Sweet Child O' Mine2. Don't Cry [Alternate Lyrics]3. Estranged4. Patience5. MadagascarThese are also the only GN'R ballads I thoroughly enjoy (honourable mention to the end of November Rain).
