Popular Post Estranged Reality Posted January 29, 2015 Popular Post Posted January 29, 2015 I kinda hope next time they tour they'll pull it out of the dustbin again a couple times...Even though it may not be the best song in the world or anything, it's so intrinsically linked to the "NuGNR" era for me (and the whole lead-up to ChiDem), that whenever I hear it, I get the feels.I remember playing the 2002 soundboard version a lot back in the day... that and "The Blues" gave me a lot of hope. 8
Mysteron Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 It is a great song. I love the build up within the song.It really feels like a song between UYI and CD
Nosaj Thing Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Wait, they have not been playing Madagascar in 2014?
Estranged Reality Posted January 29, 2015 Author Posted January 29, 2015 Wait, they have not been playing Madagascar in 2014?they may have played it recently, but i was told a little while ago that it was essentially removed from the playlist.
MrSoftie Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 They haven't played it since Vegas 12 I think. I miss it too, Axl could have done a great performance of Maddy at the 2014 residency.
Silent Jay Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Oh my god, maybe the best Madascar performance?Porto Alegre was a hell of a show, hoping the pro shot shows up one day with the rising sun
magisme Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I always wanted Madagascar to be more than it was. Like I wanted it to be the new Estranged. And there's a decent amount in there that's good, but after the whole voice montage and crescendo the song goes nowhere, just more of the "I won't be told anymore" verse. Total letdown. The album version is a slight improvement since it mixes in "if we ever find it's true" part at the same time. Still, after MLK and all that jazz, go big or go home. End of the song feels like Axl just kinda went home. 3
wkuk04 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Its one the songs I can't avoid on CD, there's just something about that guitar solo/montage.
Nosaj Thing Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 The song starts off great, but what the fuck happened in the middle section? 1
maynard Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Rock in Rio 3, Madagascar starts, the synth riff, the raw guitars, Axl's low voice, the amazing BH solo, Robin's backing vocals at the end.... that was just a great moment. Love that version of the song. VMAs wasn't bad either. 3
ZoSoRose Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Maddy is awesome. I've seen it three times live, though, and it got consistent rotation for 10 years

IncitingChaos Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 http://youtu.be/9F5t7_lXAbYThe series of screams from 1:33-1:56 always bothered me. They always sound bad. Idk how it made it on the album. I like the song though, but not that part. He just sounds off everytime.
wkuk04 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Weird thing is I'm almost 30 and that VMA's 2002 performance is possibly why I'm still a fan to this day and beyond. Yeah it might not have been the greatest vocal performance but it still managed to captivate 17 year old me. 2
Jakey Styley Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 The last couple minutes of Madagascar is one of my favorite GNR bits.
Jackamo! Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Do you think the song title "Madagascar" is in reference to the movie Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? That's what I think. I mean that movie had flying dolphins, Axl must be a fan.
stella Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Madagascar is a great song. I wish they'd return it to the set.
Amir Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 The extended scream from 2:49....Weird thing is I'm almost 30 and that VMA's 2002 performance is possibly why I'm still a fan to this day and beyond. Yeah it might not have been the greatest vocal performance but it still managed to captivate 17 year old me. Pretty much the same with me. I didn't really get into GNR until 2008 when Rock Band 2 was coming out and I read a review saying this "awful" new song from the long-delayed Chinese Democracy was premiering in the game. I then went to check out the leaks on YouTube and Axl's voice on Madagascar blew me away. 1

I was on holiday with family and went into an internet cafe and found a site called gnr bar or something and eventually got hooked.
magisme Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 (edited) The extended scream from 2:49.... That's an awesome performance. As much as DJ tries to ruin it, he can't because Axl is just that incredible. The way he comes spinning down the catwalk @ 4:26.... Where'd you go, Axl? Edited January 30, 2015 by magisme 1

The way he comes spinning down the catwalk @ 4:26.... Where'd you go, Axl? Best gig I have ever been to in my life. I'd put it above L'Arc at 2nd just because of the way the crowd went fucking nuts when Duff came on, was so surreal seeing him standing over me.Axl's extended "JUST SHUT UP AND SSSSIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGG" scream on Sorry as well from that show was killer (4:48): And IRS from 2:38 to 3:40: The previous night's gig was great as well but I was seated (only GNR show I've gone seated), so it wasn't as visceral an experience. 3
IncitingChaos Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 If Axl only showed up to the VMA's with that voice people would have been ok with everything else. I swear he can make any song good when his vocals are right
