I have only passed through.  Drink my coffee black so no idea what they do with creamers.  DJ is my side project.  The girl who took over my job when I retired.

No idea on the girl scouts.  They are asking us where to get the ladybugs.

The kids made it to Florida and we finally got a nice rain out of that storm.  For the moment, all is right in the world.

Im so happy to hear that all is right in the world. You got your rain and the kids are safe.

Oh, DJ is your protege.

Did a little research on the ladybug release.  Turns out that is not a good idea.   "ladybugs you can purchase for your garden are trapped in the wild, and that these ladybugs can carry parasites and diseases that will infect ladybugs native to your area."  Sent it off to the horticultural specialist for a professional opinion.  Cute idea but not in our garden.

Oh thats interesting. Id been wondering if it was a bad idea but for different reasons. Fun to learn this stuff at least!

My Orta pot for growing micro greens should arrive before too long!

This is a neat thread.  I didn't realize we could post about our "landscaping adventures" here.  I'll be sure to give an update on what it's like mowing my lawn this week in the 100+ (heat index) this week down here.  :P:lol:

You may not have to mow.  Most lawn grasses quit growing once the temp reaches 85.

I wish that was the case here in Central Florida.  Unfortunately, the (almost daily) "monsoons" we get here in the afternoons makes it grow at least 3+ inches a week during the summer months.  Although the temperature is usually in the low 90's, the added humidity makes it usually feel over 100 (heat index) during the days.

The temperatures typically will get into the 80's after it rains and in the evenings.  (Maybe that's what helps it grow so fast?).  Unfortunately, I can't mow my lawn when it's wet or at night, so I end up mowing it when it feels like 100 outside.  :wow:

It's  not all bad though...at least I get a nice "sweat" workout once a week.

We are declining releasing ladybugs but offering to help with their project in another way.

They are not going to let the new trainees start work in the gardens until their classes are done because of covid and the creek construction starting.

Should be a cool project, whatever the Guides come up with.

Fucking pandemic.

Whats the next step for the Lantana?

Sometime around Christmas we will try starting the lantana again.  This year we won't boil them!  At least I think.  Marsha has me starting growing in December.  The extension wants us to do the plant sale remotely again.  Means no money for the gardens again next year.

Checked on my daughter's location.  Right on the ocean's edge.

I am tired of the pandemic, the election.  Little bit of nazi in everyone.

I don't think Simone is feeling well.  Her eyes are glassy and she's been hanging around on the patio all day.

Thats right where Karen belongs, eh? Thats great!

Wait, that means the plant sale will be in your driveway again?!?! I got a good feeling about the Lantana.

Im tried of all the bs too.  Im also tired of idiots making where I live one of 3 covid "hot spots" in the province. These are the people running our country for heavens sake!!!

Simone is at the vet for a look over.  She's a little pissed about that.  She out of character and hanging at the house.  She's talking to me which is unusual and staying in my arms.  I kept her in the house last night with a few complains.  This morning I let her out and she stayed on the patio for a little bit but then came back in with me.  That's not my girl.  I had to drop her off.  They don't allow people in the vet's office due to covid.

I'm going wait, plant sale at my house again?!  Once was fun but it took 4 months.

I'm suppose to have a leads meeting on Saturday but it looks like storms so it may have to be over zoom.  Oh joy.

Poor Simone :( Im glad she has you taking good care of her. That doesnt sound like her normal self at all. And now shes brave all by herself. Hope they get her feeling better.

Maybe you can get Mike and his Dad to ruin the plot sale with you??

One more zoom meeting...

Its so cold and I have windows open since I sprayed more spider stuff. Brrrr. I torched another big one yesterday.

She cried the whole way up there and growled at the tech who carried her cage in.  Be brave my little girl.  Lily is still hiding under the bed from having seen the cat carrier come into the house.  Going to take some can cat food to get back in their favor tonight.  Just hope I don't have to give Simone meds.  That never goes well with any of my cats.

Poor Lily too. Whens Simone coming home?

The only medical thing so far with Beaker is that just weeks after he came home, he had a previous case of worms flare up. When I went too give him his meds for the first time, syringe to mouth, he taught me how to administer it! I was putting it infront of his face as he stood, like bottle feeding an alpaca. He was like "Nope, I lay on my side and you hold it directly above me." And he happily drank it all. Was amazing!!!

He was an angel until last year

But Im worried about Simone. Did you have any sense what might be going on?

She's home.  The vet noted all four of her paws are swollen and have lesions including a big one on her tummy.  She may have a rare autoimmune disease.  She got two shots in the butt and has to go back in two weeks.  I don't have to give her meds but she may end up needing a specialist.

Caleb had a run in with a jellyfish.  You'd think it would be like a bee sting but it's more like slashes all across his side.  Poor guy, he had a toothache on their last vacation.  Peeing on it is a myth.  We all saw the same show.   Always google it!

Simone! I was hoping for better news. :( Poor thing. My heart goes out to you too. This sucks. Hows she doing after the ordeal of the vet visit and all?

I feel a kindred spirit with Caleb - I cant catch a break on holiday either! Karen peed on him?!?!

Beaker got me up early. Now when ever he calls me I think he's alerting me to a spider so I wake right up. Time for a big pot of coffee and that Dead podcast.

I heard Willies Stella Blue. Thats not bad.

He did not want to be peed on.   The soon to be mother in law, not that she wanted any information in that area, was glad to hear that.

We'll see how she's doing after two weeks.  The vets there are very clinical.  Always looking for the scientific reason and overlook the practical reason.  I told them I put granular weed killer on the yard.  Doesn't look like a chemical burn though.  Her eyes are perking up.  She scratched on her scratching post and headed straight for the top of the kitchen cabinets when she came in at 3.  That's my girl.  She's still hanging around the patio in my favorite chair.

Love being retired.  Woke up at 1:30 and stayed up till 5, got up at 10.  Love my alone time.  Beautiful night on the patio.

I think I hear his Stella Blue too and thought it was good but it's Willie and he does a great job on anything he does.

HAHAHAHA Thats the funniest thing Ive heard!

Im happy t hear that Simone came home acting a bit more like herself. Poor thing.

Sounds like nice way to spent the late night hours.

Once I heard Willie do it, it kinda struck me that the song itself kinda has all the Willie hallmarks to begin with. Maybe he heard that too and decided to give it a nod?

You must feel tired today though?

I got my flu shot on top of allergies so I took a little afternoon nap.

We are having the native gardens looked at for certification by the Autobahn Society.  Everybody wants to be there for the walk through.  Of course we can't have that during covid.  The lead over that area is willing to stand by and let her trainees walk around with the judge.  Her home is certified platinum for native plants.  Means her property is all natives with no invasive plants.  I know she has a pretty good idea we're going to get certified  if she's willing to stand by.

The kids are jet skiing over to Crab Island.  All I can see on the map is they are in the ocean.

Oh great, tropical storm watch for their area starting Sunday.

Stay safe - hope there’s no storm.

That sounds like quite the adventure in the jet skis!

Ive heard of the Autobaun Society but I’m not sure what it is? That’s cool that the lead is so confident!

Sounds like a well deserved nap.

i woke up in the middle of the night to find a sizeable puddle of water coming from a leak in ceiling. Right next to my bed and a power bar! So I had to get up and deal with all that. Might need a nap myself.

That could be a problem!  The landlord coming over to deal with the leak?

I've got the kids alerted.  Hopefully they bail and come home early.

The Audubon Society is dedicated to conservation.

Del!  Come back from the leads meeting and he has decided he's going to put grass seed in the paths.  I tell him no, he should have brought it up at the meeting.  He ends up calling Kevin who tells him no also.  Took 20 minutes to get no through his head and he's pissed he can't do it.

I still dont have a land lord, Cin :) Its already been flagged from previous leaks and only if it becomes an emergency will we break pandemic protocols. Another dump as big as last nights would qualify as an emergency for sure.

Oh gosh, when you mentioned about the storm warning I thought it was for where you are. Sorry I missed that. Sucks if they have to come back early!

Oh Del

Off to get some tarragon and winter savoury for the pork burgers Im making.

Water coming through the ceiling and leaking on your floor is an emergency.  Think of all the mold growing up there now.   Think of the ceiling coming down on your head.

Marsha called me to say she thought the meeting went well.

Like my butterfly?  It's a little distorted as I had to play around with the size.  My star disappeared.  It's a picture I took years ago and couldn't find so I'm going with the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail.

Wouldn't say eating better.   Not really focusing on it.  I was wondering how you liked your chopper.  Hopefully it comes in soon.

We've cooled down but the humidity is still high.  Got nice rain today.  Managed to get my car cleaned up between the drops.  I have a bunch of purple coneflowers I have to find a home for and some butterfly weed.  Want to put it at the kid's house but not sure they want it.  Wish I had a place for it at my house.

There are two well constructed squirrel nests high up in my front tree.  And then there is a third nest.   Has to belong to my amature squirrel.  Looks more like it was a place to store materials going up.  It's pretty low down in the tree.  And I still have cuttings coming out of the tree daily.  I'll watch the third nest.  I have a decorative bird house big enough for a squirrel.  I may have to put it up there if the new guy gets desperate enough.
