To be honest, Lucas didn’t even really have much to do with the original 1977 film being good, let alone any of the others. He came up with the initial ideas but a lot of his friends did the heavy lifting for him. At the end of the day all of starwars is kinda dumb and the parts of it that people prefer depend on which generation they grew up in. But I give the original film an extra “pass” because it really did change pop culture forever (mostly for the better) and stuff like Mandalorian has really been showing just how much potential it still has to grow! 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
soon Posted November 22, 2020 Share Posted November 22, 2020 Filoni made Ahsoka, based on a notion of GL. So I agree that Filoni had a huge role in Clone Wars awesomeness. But I do love the GL ideas, no matter who brings them to life. It was the perfect place for GL to 'play.' And he even afforded himself the ability to jump back in the timeline of the show if he was inspired to tell more of a story arch. Things like the pacifist village and their moral conundrum in season 1 seems very Lucas to me. But maybe Im just assuming? I see Filoni as Lucas' padawan. Who became a Master during Clone Wars. Gonna have to take another run at the second half, but i swear it quickly becomes too much about self parody. Like purely self parody by some point. But early on its so cool to see Rey with the Jedi library. And training Finn. ... Ahsoka used to Anakin’s apprentice during the clone wars show (which takes place between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith). She left the Jedi order before Revenge of the Sith because she stopped believing in their ideals. Thrawn is a RUTHLESS imperial commander from the old non-canon books who was brought to canon in the cartoon show Rebels. At the end of that show, he and a Jedi named Ezra were sucked into a black hole, of sorts, and Ahsoka has been looking for them ever since. Tython is a planet from the video games that was once believed to be the original Jedi homeworld, until Luke discovered Ach-To in the sequel trilogy. I haven’t seen the full episode yet (been skipping around) so if I pick up on any more references I’ll let you know. Like in this episode "I love firsts, good or bad they're always memorable." And I think shes one of the canon (former) Jedis whose gotten more into he mystical aspects of the force. And her acrobatics. So I think they nailed all of these traits in the episode!! We got to see Ahsoka grow up in the clone wars. She was very snarky when she was younger, jokingly calling her master Anakin "Sky-guy" as she frequently questioned his judgement. We see some of that attitude live on in the facial expressions she gave a few times during combat in this episode. I thought the acrobatics were handled really well - not relying on CGI so much. But I wish we got to see the bad guys cut in half more clearly! haha Gideon might have Sabines* dark sabre and hes got those dark troopers.... maybe we'll get to see the dark troopers sliced in half real good? I later watched it after they announced VII-IX and grew to really like it and it's characters. Either way, I don't have the emotional attachment other fans do to Ahsoka even though I now rate her as a great character. That being said, this was one of the best pieces of post-Disney SW content yet. I loved this episode. Rosario did a great job as Ahsoka, and Filoni seems to be getting better at directing live-action, tho I did notice a few weird editing moments, and also the yellow tint on this planet was weird. Maybe yellow lighting somehow works better for live-action Ahsoka? Idk. Also I think it’s weird that now they’re saying Baby Yoda (Grogu) was on coruscant during the clone wars and we never saw him. I know he’s been in the animated stuff so he is cannon, but the idea of a live action appearance of Thrawn had me with my jaw on the floor. In the ongoing books tho they seem to be making him to be more so an anti-hero. The books take place before Rebels, so I assume something must’ve happened in between that made him go back to being cold and ruthless. I've even seen him in Rebels and still got tripped up on the canon novels I try so hard, but sometimes I feel like Im just an annoying burden for more informed fans! Boba Fett is epic - even more excited for his mini series now! Amazing cinematography once again. I actually watched this chapter on my phone in the middle of the night. And while I loved it, it made clear that this is a big screen type production! The phone just doesn't do it justice. Baby Yoda being held on a jet pack ride! Spoiler More dark side tendencies from Baby Yoda He is a child and he is being attacked. But choking is primarily dark side. Iirc we've only seen Luke use a choke while in his dark outfit. Where the protagonists face a zillion goons and dispatch them with ease while striking poses and shit with zero casualties. I know it's Star Wars, but it's overkill. Marvel can be a huge offender of that, too. Overall, very cool. It didn’t seem like they were trying to convey any passage of time. Great episode. I wasn’t totally onboard with having it be cannon that Boba survived the Sarlaac, but goddamn - this episode alone made it worthwhile. He was characterized more in this episode than he has been in any of the films he’s appeared in. And some great combat from him to boot.
