Poor Scott Weiland.

He was playing two different casino's here not long ago. My friends were offered 2 for 1 tickets when they checked in the hotel a couple of weeks ago. When they declined, the receptionist said she could just give them 2 tickets, which they still said they weren't interested in. She then put two tickets in with their room key and said they could take them in case they changed their minds. So sad.

I'm definitely on team Scott when it comes to the STP debate. I'm not gonna pretend he's completely innocent, because he isn't. But the one thing that has driven me crazy since he got fired last year - the DeLeos were always blaming Scott for being the reason they didn't play anything unusual live. They claimed to have rehearsed like 45 different songs for the original reunion tour in 2008 and then ended up playing the exact same setlist every night. They said "yeah, Scott didn't wan't to do any of those songs". They started off 2009 playing some unusual songs; Meatplow, Seven Caged Tigers, Piece Of Pie, etc, all of which soon got the the axe - yup, Scott's fault. 2012 they were supposed to play all of Core for the 20th anniversary, but didn't because "Scott didn't want to re-learn the deep cuts".

So he got fired in 2013 and goes on his solo tour, and the DeLeos announce that Chester joined STP. They said it would be an opportunity for them to play all of the songs Scott never wanted to do, and Chester said in separate interviews that STP were his favorite band and he knew every single song in their catalog and was ready to sing it at the drop of a hat. Guess what? They haven't played anything remotely interesting in the year and a half Chester has been in the band, just the same old setlist. Scott, on the other hand, went out and played almost all of Core and all of Purple in the same setlist for a whole tour. He did new arrangements on some of the STP songs - something that they got heavily critiqued for not doing in almost every professional review I'd read of any STP show since the reunion. But guess what? The media still kept their backs turned on Scott despite the fact that he was doing exactly what people had been wanting to hear.

I saw like the second or third show of his solo tour last year - not even a week after he got fired. It was an amazing show. He did everything off of Core except for Dead & Bloated and Sin (Both of which had been played regularly by STP during the reunion), and he played everything off of Purple except for Lounge Fly and Silvergun Superman (Again, both played at almost every gig by STP from 2008 to 2012). There were about 5 songs which hadn't been played in over 20 years - in a setlist of 18 songs or so, that's not a bad ratio. On top of a great setlist - Scott looked healthy, was very active onstage, and sounded phenomenal. All in all, it was the best performance I'd seen from Scott since Velvet Revolver. I saw him again a few months ago and it was a good show but Scott was really sick, so it got cut a bit short - it was about 75 mins long. Then people at the show threw a fit because it was so short, screaming about how they got ripped off and whatnot. The show was $10, I just don't see why anyone would get so upset over such a cheap gig being marginally shorter than it was supposed to be.

I'm a huge STP fan. They are in my top 5. This cheSTP is fair but it's not even close to the magic of the original band.I saw some great STP shows in the mid 90's and some forgettable ones. I'm sure in three years or so they'll inevitably reunite for a 25th Anniversary Tour which will make me feel really fucking old.

I doubt Weiland cares where he plays and even if he's sober he still needs lots of cash for alimony and child support payments. I loved Happy In Galoshes and 12 Bar Blues so I'll be picking up his new album when it's out.

I don't like Chester in STP. It's not STP without Scott. Figure this bullshit out and grow up and really write and record together an album this time and don't release bullshit again like that self titled turd that was as lifeless as old man's balls.

Powerage, if all that is true then you have a very good point. Which would mean the criticism towards him isn't fair.

Unfortunately I don't know much about STP. I know their hits, but barely, and couldn't name you anything else. I just never liked them that much from what I heard, but admittedly never really gave them a chance. They seemed like one of the less remarkable 90s bands. And yeah, all the bad stuff I hear is about Scott. Whether its true or not, I don't know. But I know him as the fuck up and the druggie and an incredibly difficult person. If thats been a lie made up by the media, then I feel bad.

What I will say about the guy: I saw VR when they played my local amphitheater and it was the best show I've ever seen. I've seen great shows since, but that was the first show I saw where I was blown away and went away saying "hands down, best gig yet." They were firing on all cylinders and it was so much better than the club show I saw 3 months earlier. And Scott played a major role. He was GREAT at this show. Ran all over the stage, used that stupid megaphone, was just an all around great frontman. And thats coming from someone that never quite understood why people loved him so much in VR. He was just on that night and I have fond memories of it.

It'd be sad if this is what he's reduced to. Especially if its all pretty unwarranted like Powerage mentions. But in all honesty, coming from a non-STP fan, I'm not surprised at all.

How many bands from the 90s are playing arenas other than Foo Fighters that don't do package tours? I'm sure Mark McGrath from Sugar Ray would be happy to add him to their summer tours with Everclear, they're all in the same boat and grew up near each other (yeah that's Wayne Newton over there). Or if Slash isn't on the KOC tour, I doubt Matt and Duff would object to having him do the tour with them.

Sorry, he fucked up himself and has SO many chances

STP? Fucked it up

Velvet Revolver? Fucked it up

Second chance with STP? Fucked it up

Its not like Im not a fan. I met him a few years ago and saw him with STP, but the dude just was meant to be the whole "tortured, dumbass artist" thing.

EDIT- I am not saying STP is innocent and it is great Scott is doing deep cuts. But the fact of the matter is, he isn't reliable. He doesn't get the job done and you need someone you can count on. STP just wasn't meant to continue and Scott isn't meant to be stable. It is just sad

I'm a big fan of that album especially songs like Maver and First Kiss On Mars. My all time favorite STP songs are Still Remains,Adhesive and Glide so I guess I lean more toward their slower songs. The album I listen to the least is Shangri-La-Dee-Da.

See, I love SLDD. No 4 is the one I barely listen to. I love that really everyone has a different favorite/least favorite album of theirs.

I agree. A lot of people I know think they got progressively worse after Core but I feel the opposite. I like how different each album is. My favorites are:

Purple

Tiny Music

Core

Stone Temple Pilots

No.4

SLDD

That'd be my order if you bumped SLDD up to 2nd and kept everything else as is.
