Alice In Chains To Open For GNR Vegas Shows!!

Recommended Posts

AIC will be cool to see, I always liked them back in the day, much so more than Nirvana.  With that said- I was hoping for Baz again.  He kicked ass when he opened for Nu Guns, and him and Axl dueting was awesome.

To me it's like Sublime and STP. Even though there were legalities involved they knew it wasn't the same without Brad and Weiland so they changed the names of their respective bands .

Maybe it's an age thing. I dont know anyone in real life who saw AIC with Layne and considers this to truly be AIC. Maybe someone who only saw AIC with Duvall considers it to be AIC since that's all they were able to see live.

Nobody is saying it won't be a good show or that Duvall/Cantrell/Inez and Kinney don't still make good music but again,it's not AIC to me.

AIC is a great band and I have always wanted to see them. I was supposed to see them in 96 with Kiss at Tiger Stadium but I had to work. I just wish Layne was still here. A great show just got better!

To me, Layne's death plays a big part. I mean, it's not like Layne is alive and this is some sort of nasty legal fight or something. The dude died, so what were they supposed to do? Jerry's guitar playing, lyrics and vocals are every bit as much "AIC" as Layme was. That's before you even worry about Kinney's drumming and Mikey's bass playing.

Let's put it this way; Bon Jovi toured a couple years ago without Richie Sambora. When they played here in Detroit, J. Geils Band opened for them and J. Geils isn't even in the band anymore! If you ask me, that type of situation is WAY worse than the one we find ourselves in currently.

Holy crap. You just reminded me that I saw them with Layne twice! I was at that Tiger Stadium show!

I guess it's semantics or personal preference.  I enjoyed AIC when I saw them open for VR. As far as realistic ,available openers for a sold out show that didn't need more hype, this is pretty good. If this were Jerry Cantrell solo we'd get some of his solo material so that would rock. I think they should be called AIC w/Duvall like Sublime w/Rome or STP w/Chester.

My dream opener! The latest two Alice albums are fantastic - Jerry hasn't lost any of his creativity. Duvall is a great replacement for Layne. He doesn't try to sound like him but still has a voice that fits the material and sounds good harmonizing with Jerry. I've seen them twice now at their own headlining shows. Both times were superb.

I really hope they're along for the tour itself. I can't think of any better realistic support act.

Tallica can open again for the US tour though. :)

You can't say FNM rocks, they don't have Jim Martin! :P

I may have to try upgrade my tickets now. This could be the greatest show I will ever see. GNR and AIC! WOW. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would see this.

I guess that's the beauty of being music nerds like us in that we care about and have opinions on matters like this. Once the lights go down in Vegas I'm sure all will be forgotten and we'll have a great time. At least I know I can count on you for a non nut-swinging GNR Vegas review,Russ!

Yeah, I was just giving you a hard time. Though I have to deduct points for you having the chance to say "We care a lot!" in a FNM related discussion and not using it haha.

As for my review.... I will tell it like it is, for sure. I think the only time I've ever given a fanboy type review of something GN'R related was the morning after the first Hammerstein but in my defense, that show was fucking amazing lol

I saw Skid Row open for them in 91, and that was awesome.  Then Guns/Metallica/Motorhead which was epic.  Then Guns with the Brian May Band (the night Duff got knocked out by a bottle throw on stage by some A-hole in the crowd).

For this tour, it would be cool to see a reunited Skid Row take the stage, but that ain't gonna happen.

People need to get over members changing weather decision to leave or death. It's a business and if your business partner leave for whatever reason you dont close your business! You find replacements and move on! It's about the music or business you created and you keep that going! Change is inevitable everywhere in life. You adapt to change! So do they. To them is a business just like everyone else!

Your GNR openers are tough to beat. Somewhere now, poor Baz is cursing Rachel for not reuniting Skid Row.

I honestly don't know what Rachel Bolan could be SO mad about.  They (skid row) are playing at some off strip casino in north las vegas in late April........instead of reuniting for a stadium tour with Guns n Roses.

Nobody begrudges them going on. It's the name that a few music nerds take issue with. I saw the Doors of the 21st century about 15 years ago (I think it was the surviving members of the Doors with Ian Astbury of the Cult on vocals) It was a good show but I don't go around telling people that I saw the Doors live since I didn't because Jim Morrison was long dead.

Great opener! Alice In Chains was great during the 90s and are still great (hopefully the we can say the same about Axl's vocal delivery after the show!).
Lanye was amazing but DuVall is great too and he imo walks Layne's shoes in a really good way!
