KeyserSoze
And thats that.... Stream topped out at 113,000 people, probably the same amount that were there that day. I think it also raised about $120,000... thats fucking amazing for an almost 30 year old show. Liza pulled the most viewers at the end there, but Axl and Elton did pretty well. Now back to your regularly schedualed GNR programming.... whatever that is.
alfierose
Great nostalgia trip. Something like this from GNR would be great - I'd stump up some charity cash for sure.
Popular Post adamsapple
I'm not even a big Queen fan but this concert...wow! Bowie, Robert Plant, George Michael, Elton John and Axl Rose all on the same stage...I need a time machine!! Life before cell phones was better, at least the concerts were...it sucks getting old but I'm glad to say I was around and have attended some really amazing concerts back then. Not this one, but still enough to know the difference between a real music crowd a bunch of braindead zombies.

'Cowboys And Angels' is one of the best songs ever written. His performance at the Freddie tribute was immaculate, imo one of the greatest live performances ever recorded.

There's just something about it that's really from the soul. He did incredibly well for a singer that started out quite 'boyband'. He really grew as an artist.

It's hard to explain to people who weren't born yet or were too young at the time how HUGE GNR were back then. I still remember I went to the local record store the day the illusion albums were released & there was a line to get in the door. When I got inside the they had boxes of them in CD & cassette at the cash register because that's what everyone was there to purchase. I remember I purchased both I & II on cassette & when I got home I went to my room & shut the door & just listened to both albums all the way through. There's trip down memory lane for you. 8
Chewy2
I'm watching it now. My memory is fuzzy after 30 years but I remember watching this over & over on MTV back then. I remember some of the bands also had their sets mixed in or maybe that was the way MTV cut the show? Was that a different day of the concert or something? I seem to remember GNR being on during daylight.

First the band individual performances, then the Queen performance with guest singers stepping in. Only U2 was a transmission, as they were on tour in the US. It was amazing. Even the pay TV channel broadcast that show live and for free. It was an event. Even though I though the GNR song choice boring and had hoped for more songs.
