Bad mood in Rio 92

According to gnrontour.com, the band didn't seem to have a good time during the show at the Autodromo in Rio on their last show in 1992:

"A very 'nervous' show. Axl supposedly came to the Autodromo just five minutes before the show started and left right after the show ended. Axl didn't change his clothes during the show, he started the show with a white t-shirt and ended with the same. Slash, Gilby and Duff stayed around the drum kit during the show, just Axl was running around. Apparently the band was not having a good time because the show ended with 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door,' not the customary 'Paradise City' encore."

 

I've never read anything in the biographies on why this was such a weird show. Are there any indications on what might have had happened?

here you find some info . Blog is in portuguese. To sum up, guy allegedly says Axl was very pissed off with him and others that are taking photos and throwing shit during the show.

And Guns N' Roses sank into the mud. For a band that is supposed to be important, playing in a place like the swamp abandoning that is the Autôdromo de Jacarepaguá seems the end of the line.

And aside from the blind idolatry of Axl and company fanatics, the show presented by the band on Sunday left a lot to be desired.

The delay aside (the group took the stage at 11:15 pm, an hour and a half later than scheduled) because of problems in the sound system, the rest was unforgivable. Like the lack of cohesion in the performance. The show drags, is full of holes, doesn’t flow and doesn’t involve the audience.

So much so that at the end the band returned only for the usual encore - "Paradise city", one of the good moments - because no one was excited enough to want more, even by the late hour, almost at dawn.

Very different from the shows at the last Rock in Rio (a good one and an average one), which, although seemed like rehearsals for the world tour, had more energy. We even wonder if they play the same show in other countries. Does anyone complain there?

It can be said that the two best things of the night were the majestic full moon that emerged behind the mountains just when GNR took the stage and the flight of a helicopter, beautifully lit by the stage reflectors.

In addition, what we saw was a bureaucratic performance, from which it’s clear that the group knew how to do better at the beginning of their career. So much so that the new songs, except '"November rain", already an instant rock classic, went by unnoticed.

The show started well with “Welcome to the jungle" - everything to do with the place - and improved with “Mr. Brownstone", both from the Gunners' first and best album - the latter was interrupted because Axl "eagle eye" Rose found a Slash impersonator in the audience and the highlight of (?). Programmed friendliness.

Then Axl said those usual things like "it's good to be back" etc., and once again he took the opportunity to attack the press, something that is already part of the script of the band's concerts worldwide, and which he allegedly feeds with his fake “rebellious” attitudes.  As fake as the red-black shirt he wore at the end of the show and the Brazilian flag displayed during the song “Civil war”. Pua!

There are so many unnecessary speeches and stretches in some songs that in just over two hours of the show, about half the time is pure filler.

Everything went smoothly on stage for most of the performance, but around 0h40m, in the middle of "You could be mine" (until that point the song that excited the audience the most), Axl had his expected tantrum because he saw someone photographing the show or something like that - whatever, since he had another reason to throw the microphone, one of the many he throws from the stage - and left the stage cursing. What a joke.

This guy deserves a good spanking on the butt - which he showed to the audience in the first half of the show - to learn to respect the fans, especially the girls who go through hell to watch the guy's shows and run the risk of getting hurt .

In general, Guns have become a corporate rock band, with all the possible clichés of the genre: long and expendable solos (all  terrible, by the way, especially those by Slash), parts with piano, a female choir, shouting request from the audience via a luminous sign, in short, everything that causes retching in rockers with attitude.

It's better to follow the suggestion written on the shirt that Axl wore at the end, the one that bears the face of Christ and the words "Kill your idol". It's time to kill idolatry on Guns N 'Roses.

Based on the O Globo review, there was an encore and Paradise City was played, so the show didn't end with KOHD. 

Also going by the article and the pictures in the newspaper, Axl changed his shirt at least once.

The entire south american leg of the tour was plagued by chaos!

They had major problems with the press (they were making things up about the band), they were raided in an hotel in Argentina, and police was searching for drugs! In Venezuela they escape a presidential coup as soon as their plane took off the country (Axl got into a fist fight with reporters in Venezuela - there's a video on Youtube), in Brazil they got in São Paulo and Axl was "quoted" saying in the press that this was the ugliest city he has ever seen, he trew a chair through the hotel balcony and towards the reporters (they had two shows in the city and didnt finish none of them) and in Rio a couple started fighting in the audience and he stopped the show!

Also there is a video of them in Colombia, and someone threw a bottle or something heavy and Axl stopped the concert!

With was a mess.

Argentina 1992 might be my favourite bootleg of the entire 1992 tour. Axl stopping the show twice is interesting because he doesn't throw the tantrum you'd expect, and then they just go back into the songs. You Could Be Mine and Nightrain. Overall the performances are great and the video/audio quality is among the best of the 1992 pro shots. You can even hear Gilby's guitar!

If the shows were in america or somewhere else, he would've walked off by the first time. I think these shows meant a lot to the band and they really didn't want to walk off, giving them more chances than other audiences would've gotten
