  1. No, this ain’t no weird „fan letter“ or me being drunk or stoned or anything. I’ve just come to the realization, that GNR has been, for the majority of my life, is in the here and now and probably will be a somewhat crucial part of my life. Strange enough, don’t feel any actual „connection“ to the musicians, not at all. I can't picture myself having a beer with Axl or Slash or anyone. But boy do I love their music. For some reason, and no particular reason at all, I just feel a very powerful urge right now to scream out THANK YOU. Thank you for the music. Thank you for the magic. The communication (though the music), the connection, the spirit, the vibe, the soul. And thank you for reaching my soul. Thank you for resonating with my soul. Regardless of how much I want to beat some new music out of you guys - thank you for everything. It's good knowing you are out there while I am out here, all of you, past and present. And I wish you nothing but the best. Same goes for fans sharing my sentiment. That’s all. Just had to get this off my chest. Probably not worth its own thread, so mods feel free to move it as you please or others feel free to chime in if you want. One band to sum it up for me, at the end of the day? One band to speak in my name, the things I can’t express but feel? Guns N’ Fuckin’ Roses.

  3. While I agree with you that there's a lot of horrible things going on all around the world that should be protested and talked about a lot more, I still agree with the college students that are right to call the universities to divest from Israel and protest a blatant genocide that the Israeli government and IDF are carrying out in front of all the world to see. Of course Hamas is a terrorist group and the October 7th attack was abominable. Still if the response from Israel is to destroy the whole of North Gaza, carpet bomb every hospital, university or residential building or even the UN buildings in Gaza killing approximately 40 000 people, most of which are civilians, they are clearly the bigger terrorists here. And lastly, picking from a long list of unjust things to prostest, an ongoing genocide is kind of top of the list I think.

  4. The Grammy's have been irrelevant for a long time and the 'Grammy Hall Of Fame' (lol) seems even more pointless than the regular Rock HOF. AFD is one of the most popular albums of all time, who cares if it gets another award? And people were seriously hoping they'd show up and perform at this?

  5. Really looking forward to seeing him in Seattle next month. I'm not crazy about Madeline as a singer, but some of their songs are pretty nice. One Man Party (track 9) and Suburban Ghost (track 3) are cool. The tour starts in less than 2 weeks, really interested to see what the setlists are like and whether it will be 2 sets, or just Madeline guesting for a couple songs as was originally planned (they've released a bunch more music so maybe they'll play a longer set together?)

  6. So knowing Slash's speed....I makes me think there's probably quite a few more than just 6! The 6 he was talking about was probably what he did in Lockdown....which may be (just guessing of course) in addition to ones he did in 2019 and before....

  7. Axl never used being bipolar as an excuse (when he seemed to not outright reject the diagnosis and before he denied it) for his behaviour. I think he would definitely prefer to be regarded as lazy than as being bipolar or mentally ill in general. Because, among other reasons, that has and can be used against him (for example, in the recent Kennedy lawsuit). When he denied being diagnosed as bipolar, he said (paraphrasing) that it had been used by people trying to make money off him via financial settlements (I assume he meant in lawsuits). So, if some people think that suggesting that at least some of Axl's issues may be due to a mental condition and not just "laziness" is defending or finding excuses for him, I doubt that Axl himself would see it that way.

  8. That wasn't weird at all, it was very nice.

  9. Yes, Slash and Fortus have mentioned before about working during on the GN'R songs during lockdown. But they had started before that (and before the leaks).

  10. Another interview (in French, Rock Hard magazine,): https://www.a-4-d.com/t8416-2024-05-01-rock-hard-france-damned-blues-slash I'll translate in full at a later time (help welcomed!), but here is the part about Metal Chesnut: The record ends with an instrumental called "Metal Chestnut", a sort of “odd one out" that's closer to the Guns N' Roses repertoire than to a song written for a blues record. What's the story behind this song? It was Mike Clink's idea to end the record with an original composition. Having spent a lot of time putting together the covers and their arrangements, I hadn't thought about it. I liked his idea. So I stayed home for a couple of days to work on some ideas. "Metal Chestnut" was written on the last day of rehearsals for the album, just before recording. It's an instrumental that I think is rather inspired and came about spontaneously. If people think it sounds like Guns N' Roses, maybe it's because I'm in that band! (laughs) The rest is mostly the same stories about the recording of the covers and a bit about the performance at the Oscars. He says again that he'll start working on a new SMKC album (has already written a couple of songs) after the blues tour ends, and that GN'R has no tour planned. Doesn't know when a new GN'R album will come out, but it will be after the next SMKC cycle and all new material.

  12. I'm 47 and Guns N Roses has been the soundtrack to much of my life. So I share the sentiment. Of course new albums would be great and I think we all wish for that. But I'm so happy that Axl n Slash not just mended their relationship but reunited in GN'R. Seeing Axl, Dizzy, Slash n Duff together live looking so happy and having so much fun in 17 and 22 was something I never thought I'd see again. So as well as all the great music that was awesome.

  13. Oh, the good ole never-ending circles. They don't owe us anything. And Axl's poor release history is because of the bipolar disorder. I figure he must be on the 'off' side usually for decades.

  14. Cathouse 89, Giants Stadium 88, Ritz 87, and 2-3 Canter recordings would be the best box set they've released so far. Even if it's just CD's and a USB stick with 1080 videos, they could still milk that era way more than they already have. Ritz 88 is far from my favourite show but it seems like an obvious choice for future release. They played a remastered version at one of the pop-up events when the AFD box set was released, they have at least a few remastered audio shows that weren't included in the UYI box... live stuff is the most likely next release or box set.

  15. That's kind of creepy IMHO, that he considers a Woman only about five years older than him to be a MOTHER figure to him, and not like a WIFE. 😵‍💫

  16. Yes, when he fight in airport with an paparazzi, he call Beta mother.

  17. This was a good interview. Great questions, no dumb stuff like the interviews by Lyndsey Parker. No one has mentioned the bit about VR but it was good to finally get a straight answer about why they didn't pick a new singer and continue.

  18. Well, we are going by Axl's own words on that who calls her mom. It does feel more like a mother relationship than a romantic one from what is shown as well.

  19. I'm not sure that Axl is bipolar either, but there is definitely something going on with him that is less than normal (but what is normal anyway lol). Most people don't need an almost caretaker that Beta seems to be, and going back to the early days he always had what his managers would call a "handler or baby-sitter." So, it's obvious to me he's not someone that's really ever been able to not need someone around, and there could be a million and one reasons for that we'll never know, but to just say lazy is a bit of an understatement and simplifying that imo. But I am pleasantly surprised the site got that small update, it goes to show it's not going to be completely ignored and I feel it could mean something important down the road.

  20. This is a beautiful, honest, captivating , enthralling, iheartfelt, in depth thread! 😀😇🐬 By the way, a "Weird fan letter would be something like,"Oh my God, Guns N'Roses, you are the best band in the world, you guys are so great and wonderful, I LOVE each and everyone of you, you guys all totally rock, in other words, something a besotted 13 year old Fan might write to their favorite Band. Your thread is just a thread giving heartfelt gratitude and thanks. 💡

  21. sorry for being an asshole but Axl won’t be show up anywhere

  22. Nah. Fans like to collect physical products. Of course we all want a new studio album. But we all know it'll happen when it happens cos Axl is Axl. In the meantime we'll happily take more boxsets.

  23. Thanks for clarifying. Yea, seems like he's just saying there won't be any covers on a GNR record, but I guess the singles would likely still be included. The way he talks about it is almost sad at this point. He "thinks he'll spend some time with Guns" next year, doesn't know what will happen, there's nothing planned... they still haven't even released all the songs they finished years ago, lol.

  24. It JUST occurred to me like three seconds ago that the real reason why Guns N'Roses aren't really releasing Boxsets/Compilation albums is because of the fact that Fans can literally just download albums for free off of YouTube. I have a phone that I was able to download a 4 hour video for free off of YouTube. Anyone can just make their own Guns N'Roses Boxset for free using YouTube. They did make a Use Your Illusions Part 1 and 2 Boxset, and that flopped. What they REALLY should do is go to a Studio and release a brand new album, not give us drips of songs that were recorded years ago or or even around 30 years ago. They should make a new album and call it Time For A New Era! That's what Fans REALLY want, not Boxsets of songs that can be easily downloaded for free from YouTube. 💡

  25. Yeah, I was just talking strictly what was officially released. If you include the leaks, there's even more!

  27. I believe that vocal take on State Of Grace (the 2000 mix from the Village CD) was a rough vocal take. With that being said, it wouldn't surprise me if they end up using it, as this is modern Guns N' Roses, where horrible mixes are officially released. (Hard Skool and The General comes to mind) But my guess is State Of Grace, if worked on subsequent to the 2000 mix we have, they would have polished up the vocals. The vocals towards the end are suitable for release with a proper mix. I actually find them pleasant. I believe that song would work well as is, with a proper vocal take, a Buckethead or Robin solo, and a final mix and master. I was relieved after Perhaps was officially released, because it was mixed and mastered professionally. It gave me hope that we would at least have reasonable mixed songs, then that came crashing down when The General leaked. Monsters also sound poor from a mixing standpoint, hopefully it's slightly more polished in the final version. The official The General sounds a little cleaner compared to the leak.

  28. There is evidence that work on unreleased CD era songs had started way before the leaks happened (at least a year before). Most notably: - In September 2018, when Slash was touring with SMKC, he told Alan Niven that Axl had been "in isolation" picking CD leftovers for them to work on. Niven mentioned it in an interview in March 2019. - In April 2019, Slash went to Axl's home studio with his gear being set up by Caram. So I think either those were the songs that were done or getting worked on before the leaks occurred, or other songs were originally prioritized to be released as first singles, but the fact that Hard School leaked and got a positive response changed the plans slightly as far as the order of releases was concerned.

  29. Although I have made my jokes, I don't dislike the song. It's just a sonic mess, which I attribute to its releasing during the NITL era. I'm fully convinced that had this released when it should have, back in the ChiDem era, it would sound a whole lot better. But unfortunately, The General is going to be a GnR song I will never listen to more than a few times. I also don't and won't listen to the other NITL singles. I prefer the leaked versions of those songs.

  30. I love ALL of GnR .. The AFD era .. The Illusions era .. All of the ChiDem era .. GnR has never had a bad guitar player and Axl even at his lowest is still an amazing singer

  31. Loved the pics you posted. I love Germany. Such a cool place to visit. I’d happily live there given the opportunity. Once had a layover at Frankfurt on a flight home from Morocco. I’d bought a six pack at duty free in Marrakesh but they wouldn’t let me take it on the connecting flight so I chugged them all in about 5 minutes and vomited all over myself. 😂

  32. The Cathouse shows would be awesome. I know he’s pretty illegitimate these days, but I believe Alan Niven said this was the best and most raw he ever saw them.

  33. Because it’s what you mainly do. You’re here to defend Axl in every capacity possible. The problem is not what you know but what you don’t know. He may be diagnosed bi polar but you simply don’t know if he’s taking medication or is doing anything against it. There’s a lot of things you can do to help yourself when you’re suffering from a disease. With the right medication you don’t have the problems like without but that’s something you ignore because that doesn’t fit your agenda.

  35. There’s been a lot of talk about the necks on these. The one I have has a medium neck which is correct and it weighs just over 8.5 Ibs. But it seems the average weight of these is around 10.5 Ibs with a fat neck. I tried two and the weight and neck difference was considerable. Not sure if the fatter neck correlates with the weight. The finish seems to range from a faded honey burst and slightly faded cherry burst too. The one Danish Pete tests out on the Andertons video has a really dark cherry burst compared to any other example I’ve seen. Both are correct for the early 90’s as someone mentioned here. Slash had it refinished mid Illusions tour. All in all, it’s a cracking guitar. I like the slimmer neck profile, and I’m glad I snagged one that’s so light compared to most. No quality control issues that I can see so far, and no outrageous tooling marks on the fretboard. I’m even happy with the pickups. I replaced my November burst and Appetite LP pickups with Slash's Seymour Duncan APH-2S and was going to do the same with these, but these are surprisingly really good. So I won’t bother. I wonder if they’ve tweaked them slightly, or if it’s down to the guitar itself. It resonates for ages, far longer than any other LP I have or have had.

  36. @Karice That makes everything so guaranteed and even realer because there is a real place to base everything around. And me coming from not America(Boo!) won't know where .... say , "just a venue " is . so i would have to place it in England. Wouldn't be realistic at all then would it ? or ...i will pull out deer creek center and its not .... that is not the point is it ? so i for one , sweetie really do appreciate the guidance there to make things really real as they can ever be. You know, for your international readers too. So thanks for that helping hand there. Yeah. well ... Andy did what he had to do after he did the shhh that he did and if he hadn't of done that then we would not be in that situation. so i am i for one, really am glad he wised up and helped get out of the sh1t instead of putting everyone in it , creating sh1t. I will admit though Andy really did his work well when it came to the crunch .. that was a slick gangster move there haha i thought a spar might take shape...well, i did not know quite what may take shape ! Oh , but he was so clever at that precise and pinnacle point ,(not going to say he saved the day haha BUT ...together just how he and Your Fictional Axl worked out that right there and then. How i LOVED it. so i do applaud him there. The writing was absolutely thrilling. The whole leading up to it , omg girl and then ...it was so amazing. ..how you presented the risk n situation and the solution , to us all I for one I never felt so many emotions in one sitting. When the part about punching out older Axl i was so enraged haha i wanted to jump in the screen and knock Mark (and bloody Andy at that point! ) out myself. i really wanted to give it to him. You really did not skip anything . These names and their traits and whims , their background stories, and of course their pain. ah well , they all felt so real. You are giving karice , Blood , Sweat , tears, to us here apposed to just the sweat that one tends to see always posted over n over n over again on whatthewhat whatyafkn kiddinme wot padd now. LOL This chapter alone , It all felt so ...like a perfect original moving picture. Your character building , and knowledge of it , is phenomenal. Really got me girl. Absolutely perfection fiction.

  37. i for one, did not see this twist coming Karice, And it is fabulous really. See there is a strong moral to this right here. And i for one , love that. i love that . makes reading art worthwhile. And if Andy McCall had not had big selfish ideas n sticky fingers he would not have got sucker punched because let's face it that must have been so gutting ...Tough titties Andy Don't we reep what we sow ?

  38. I think it was the Coffee with Ola interview, he said if he did another blues record it would be originals, or 'maybe half and half' originals/covers... that possibility of more blues songs and the Serpent festival becoming an annual thing is honestly way more exciting than more GNR singles. I wouldn't be surprised if the only thing GNR releases next year is some 40th anniversary merch...
    0 points
  39. Yeah, and considering that he said in other interviews that he's thinking about making the blues festival an annual event in addition to continuing with SMKC, it looks like GN'R has no plans (touring or anything else) for 2025 either.
    0 points
  40. Yeah, maybe he means that there will be no covers. But from the way he talks about it it sounds like they're going to try to write new material: Finally, the obligatory Guns N' Roses question. What's the status of that album everyone's been waiting for? I think I'll be spending some time with Guns N' Roses after the next cycle with the Conspirators, but I don't know what's going to happen. As far as I know, there's no tour planned. As for a new album, I've only got one answer: there's always a Guns N' Roses record in the pipeline! I just don't know when it will come out. It will be made up of original songs, that's all I can say for sure.
