no way to really know, of course, but I think Monsters will be officially released eventually. Would be a shame if Axl decided to not do it cause it's a very strong track imo, and most fans in here seems to really like it. I'm sure the band is aware of that.

honestly, thinking that Axl was in a position which he had to choose between doing press or whoring singles to keep promoters happy seems to be a little bit of a reach. There is nothing we know that indicates any of that actually happened and a huge brand like Gn'R with Axl and Slash in the lineup brings with it a lot of power I would imagine. Maybe enough to not have to make cheap deals with promoters.

I still think it's a great album and I still listen to it. After 15 years of listening to all 14 tracks it feels like such a calculated album. Gn'R has always released very refined albums, but Chinese sounds like it was being constructed in such a way that sometimes I think Axl was trying to fit 3 albums worth of ideas into 1, or at least that's how it ended up being and that made it lose some energy that hard rock albums tend to have just from being a snapshot of when they were created, not like Chinese which feels more cinematic, like Axl had a lot of time and resources to attack each song from every angle and gradually added more new ideas to the same group of tunes, making a grand musical statement. works for me though, even if I think it could have been even better if Axl knew when it was time to hit the breaks with his tinkering and move forward with its release. Instead, it was overcooked but I don't think it was ruined and some of the changes improved the record imo.

doesn't seem very plausible to me. Not an approach I can see Axl taking, it just seems too cheap for Axl to agree to use Chinese material just to make a deal with promotors so the tour could keep going. my guess is that Axl chose to release these singles this way and there is no obligation to release anything when it comes to original material.

I think Slash wanted to come back to Gn'R earlier, but one of the main reasons it didn't happen sooner was that Axl was still not ready. I mean... the guy called Slash a killer as late as 2010 iirc. A Reunion in 2010 could have been brilliant.

sorry for going off topic. I think in some areas, it's as simple or as difficult as Axl makes it to be imo, so I guess it depends on what his artisitc goal is, if there is still one beyond Chinese material. I get the feeling that for Axl, a Gn'R album always means a lot, maybe too much for the process to not be fractured instead of gaining momentum and not take years to release. Del wrote some good lyrics in the past, but I wonder if he can still do it at that level like the lyrics he contributed to Gn'R. I wonder if Axl still writes lyrics on a regular/semi regular basis or not so much.

good for Mick for kinda making this happen. For me it's an impressive level of where they are in the game and I like all the songs on the album. putting a fuzz switch on Paul's bass was such a neat touch. Sweet Sounds Of Heaven is a classic.

nowdays we have smart phones, more distractions, casuals that don't pay attention, etc. It was a cool tradition and maybe the two people that got hit in the face by Axl's mic wanted to get something out of it, whatever, but they did get hit in the face with Axl's mic so personally I think it's a good thing for the band and for the fans that they don't do it anymore, even if it also sucks that the shows are a little less exciting without the mic toss at the end.

I seriously doubt it. I'm not even going to try to guess how Axl will handle this shit. Too many variables imo, but the end of Gn'R? I'm guessing no way.

hopefully Kat is exaggerating and Fernando sexually harassed her just a little bit and gave her sufficient breaks between every creepy interaction. I don't know what happened there, obviously, but some people here act like they have all the answers and it's very clear what Kat should have done without ever taking into consideration that when you go through this kind of shit, with someone possibly abusing their power to get you to do shit you don't want to do, there is a lot at stake if it's your reputation and your job on top of your emotional well being if you lose a position after 12 years of working for such a big brand.
