It really seems that way. Is it my imagination, or does something seemed to have 'clicked' with the band as a whole since Apollo show? For the first time since the reunion, I'm getting a sense of them being a genuine band and not just the big 3 and friends, especially where Richard's concerned.

Popular Post Original
My mish mash review- Wow- what a night. Despite my plans to stay in back/side of pit I found myself about 10 feet (5 'rows' ) away from Slash. Surreal seeing them so close. Slash was so dominant. Just outstanding. Met Frank in the pit during the Deftones show <they suck>), but Frank was so nice...I can't rip him anymore. Gladly shook my hand. He was into the Deftones, standing by himself fist pumping and all pumped. Loved the McBob intro. Axl- unbelievable energy, no wonder we have all the guitar solo's (although some too long for me), I was exhausted watching him run all over and he's singing his ass off at same time. His voice was lights out awesome 1st half, I could tell it was fading (Mickey-ing) the latter part of show, but he was still trying his ass off. #Legend! Jungle his voice was like the UYI era. Estranged was my highlight...my favorite song and I though Axl nailed it. Not sure what the eff they have done to Rocket Queen. The band- unbelievable....greatest in world. Stadium was sold out (50,000 strong). Don't wear sandals in the pit, my feet, back, neck all killing me. Sooo happy...and tired.

Popular Post DPR714
I haven’t seen this band live since 1992 UYI – Target Center, Minneapolis. I wasn’t going to get tickets but decided Saturday afternoon to do so. I have read many reviews/thoughts on shows on this forum since it the reunion started. So let’s just say I know what to expect after each and every show. My thoughts on last night in Minneapolis- Great show!! The band played for the people in the stadium they didn’t play for those watching on the internet. I had my phone out to video the McBob intro and then it went into my pocket for the rest of the show. I just listened and soaked it all in. Axl- was amazing. For him to power through those songs without blowing a lung out is pretty special. I understand why some songs are sped up, have extra long guitar solos, or why Duff sings one or sometimes two songs, why Axl is not as hot in the sound mix—to give Axl a break and protect his voice. In regards to speeding songs up for example---In 1983 Journey on their Frontiers tour sped up a number of songs as well – why? To protect Steve Perry’s voice. They had a heavier schedule than NITL GNR, but Axl clearly is pushing his voice a lot harder than Perry did. This is also why we get some “mickey” on some songs. If Axl was to sing like it was 87-92 you would have a number of cancelled shows. Slash- Good lord. Guy is killin’ it up there. He was just kind of let go to tear it up and the band was locked in to see all of his nonverbal cues to end songs-- Outside of course of the obvious-- jumping off the stairs. Duff- Strong as ever-- You can tell he is the glue for this band. Great lead and backing vox. Richard- Solid player he didn’t a great job! I would put his playing right up there with Izzy’s Now on the songs writing etc for this band Izzy has the lead but who knows what’s coming down the road. Dizzy- Keyboards- Honestly couldn’t get that focused on him outside of the solo and bongos. Melissa- outside of the backing vox and helping hit some of the high notes- She was just there. I know she was playing a lot of the samples, FX stuff but yeah. Frank- Being a drummer myself I thought he did a great job. I know he takes a lot of crap on here but he is a better fit for this band than Matt- Not a reflection on Matt’s playing but Matt is a metronome. He is good at what he does but this band still needs to have some swagger to compliment Slash’s playing. Slash probably is just ecstatic with Frank because he is loose and yet keeps it locked in. Unfortunately, something Steve could not be counted on to do on a nightly basis. If you think Frank plays everything to fast and this or that I am pretty sure Axl, Slash and Duff would have removed him from the band a LONG time ago. He is doing what he is asked to do. The show was great the music was great. Nothing was exactly how the AFD or UYI Cd’s were recorded. They shouldn’t be --It’s a LIVE concert expect things to be different.
