I'm wondering how many people actually know about the porn verification laws coming in a few months, I know most don't know anything about the investigatory powers act.

I'm literally the only one that's ever mentioned it here.

Probably because anybody with any sense is using a VPN and hence couldn't give a shit.

London's murder rate overtook New York's murder rate last month...

More gun laws?   ....oh wait....

Im not sure I follow your angle.  You likely know that NY has strict gun laws for a US State?  There is a ban on assault weapons. There are more through background checks and even recently they are still passing more restrictive legislations onto their already comparatively robust system of controls and bans.

They just added legislation on March 31st, infact.  So yes: more gun laws are working well for New York:

New York tightens gun restrictions for domestic abusers

(CNN)People convicted of domestic abuse in New York will now have to turn over all firearms, not just handguns, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Saturday.

"New York is once again leading the way to prevent gun violence, and with this common sense reform, break the inextricable link between gun violence and domestic violence," Cuomo said. "This legislation builds on our gun laws -- already the strongest in the nation -- to make New York safer and stronger."

A news release from the governor said the legislation amends state law passed after the Sandy Hook killings that previously prohibited domestic abusers from owning pistols and revolvers. It also applied to some misdemeanors but not others.

The changes in the law included adding a list of serious misdemeanors.

"Half of the women who are murdered in this country are murdered by an intimate partner," Cuomo told CNN, citing a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The report says some of the killers are former partners.

Firearms were used in 35 domestic killings in the state in 2016, the governor's office said.

The law also can prevent someone from getting or renewing a license for a gun if the person is the subject of an arrest warrant for certain alleged crimes.

The governor said the state wants its laws to prevent dangerous people from getting weapons.

"Legitimate gun owners can still own a gun," Cuomo said.

The measure passed 41-19 in the Senate and 85-32 in the state Assembly.

In a memo posted on the governor's website, the statement notes parts of the law were being changed to align with federal law.

I was being sarcastic but it's in reference to the UK having practically banned all guns....but yet their murder rate was higher than NYC last month....(which still has much more lax gun laws than the UK)

All that means is a lot of money has been pumped into gentifying NYC and Mayor Guliani did a good job of fuckin’ sending people down over there.  What is also means is that if it weren’t for the gun laws we would be doing people at an astronomical rate.  Whys the comparison limited to New York?  I’ll tell you why, because of the stereotype from the 70s and 80s that NYC is some kind of hardcore place but it aint anymore, why not have a comparison with somewhere in America that has a high murder rate, otherwise its kind of rigging the game.

The comparison came because both cities are similar in size/population and NYC is still (overall) the more "dangerous" out of the two cities.

My (sarcastic) point was that the UK should enact stricter gun laws (even though they can't really)... since whenever reports like this come out about a U.S. city, that's the first thing you hear people saying.

Basically, it's not "just gun laws" that lead to higher violent crime rates in certain cities.

London.gov site claimed police funding there has "fallen by more than £700 million or nearly 40 per cent in real terms on a like for like basis and in recent years the Met police have had to find more than £600m of cuts."

Though the Conservatives probably spin that as an increase some how and blame Labour.

Why do you never report Labour's rabid antisemitism?
