Addicts they may have been, but at least they were semi or mostly functioning addicts. It sounds like Steven could barely handle Civil War in the studio, and that they needed to heavily edit and paste takes together to get a usable take. How many people told them to stop abusing substances? To get their shit together? To just release that damn album they were working on (this applies to all post AFD incarnations)? To bond and work on communication within the group, because you just can't replace chemistry in a rock band, and they had a once in a lifetime line-up? To be wary of predatory businessmen? To try not to sparkle riots? To avoid braids and loose jerseys? Etc., etc. This whole band has been one long struggle against common-sensical advise from the get go.
