WESTERN MOVIES

Anyone is a big fan of this genre like me? Some classics I like (no order of preference): The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (perhaps my favorite one), The Big Country (a great metaphor of how big--in all terms--are the United States--and I'm not american), The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (one of the best, of course), Once Upon a Time in the West, The Treasure of Sierra Madre, The Searchers, Stagecoach, Fort Apache, Unforgiven, For a Few Dollars More, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Ox-Bow Incident, Rio Bravo, Giant, The Shootist, Dances with Wolves (although the end, the anthropological lesson, is a crap).

Any indications?

HUGE HUGE fan. I've seen so many fucking westerns honestly, it'd take the rest of my life to try and list em but suffice to say i've seen most westerns you could think of, just love the fuckin' genre, all the Spaghetti Westerns, The Henry Fonda ones like Warlock and My Name is Nobody & Drums Along the Mohawk, pretty much every western he was in actually, John Wayne i've literally seen every western he made, even the earlier hour long B movie ones that kinda recycled the same 8 or 9 stories over and over  Jimmy Stewart had some great ones with Winchester 73 and Shenadoah and The Man From Laramie, then like, How the West Was Won and many many of the obscure Spaghetti Westerns like the Djangos and Death Rides a Horse with Lee Van Cleef, the old Gary Cooper classics too, in fact most of the Westerns he ever made, even Gene Autry i've seen most of his...and like, the ol' Johnny Mack Brown ones, i've yet to find anyone of this planet whoose seen those, ever seen em? :) And Johnny Guitar with Sterling Hayden and Joan Crawford i believe? Oh, and how could i forget, fuckin' Randolph Scott, seen the vast majority of his westerns too.

What about Western TV shows like Have Gun Will Travel, Bonanza, Rawhide...and Clint Eastwood, shit, i could recite the script to all his fuckin' westerns...literally all of em, amazing movies (except maybe Paint your Wagon ). Always adored Westerns.

Wow, man, THANKS! I have now a plenty of western movies to see! I can see I'm just a little baby in the genre yet. Basically, I'm a fan of John Ford, Sergio Leone, John Wayne, and Clint Eastwood. I never saw the TV series you've mentioned (and I didn't know Clint made one for such a long time). Two classics I forgot to mention is Shane and The Wild Bunch. Well, thanks again! I'll see them all with pleasure! But what about new western movies? One that I've seen is the remake of 3:10 to Yuma (I've never seen the classic).

I don't really watch the new ones to be honest, i've seen the original 3:10 to Yuma though with Van Heflin, it's incredible. Also you might wanna check out like Soldier Blue, which is kind of revisionist take on the west, kinda brings the Indians end up a bit. And also, if you want like, as close to a realistic portrayal of the old west, check out The Culpepper Cattle Co although you might wanna not break the romance of it just yet, try falling in love with it some more, go through all the old good guys like Henry Fonda and Gary Cooper, no need for all that realism crap just yet. Oh, also you might wanna check out Cheyenne Autumn with Richard Widmark too.

The Skyfall trailer has given me a raging boner.

There's an International version of it too. Slightly different cut with some additional dialogue:

Aside from having a top cast and crew involved, the overall look of the film has me excited.

Also, glad they went with a young Q instead of trying to give us a second-rate Desmond. I liked John Cleese but a real world Q probably would be a young genius and not an old military man so this fits more in line with the tone of the Craig films.

Agree, glad Q is a young guy, makes sense that he would be a genius engineer who would be up to date with the best technology so I think it will work out well.

Also Javier Bardem looks quite silly in the trailer with that blonde hair.

That was my first thought as well, but then I thought it might be nice to have a stand-out villain again - one with a distinctive look and is the clear villain of the movie. Casino Royale had Le Chiffre but in the end it was Mr. White that Bond was really after. Dominic Greene was just boring. I welcomed the realistic approach in the first two Craig movies and I still want it there, but Craig deserves to have his "classic" Bond film and I think Javier might be more in the mold of an old school Bond villain but still keeping in touch with the realistic approach.

I am sure they learned from the mistakes they made with Quantum of Solace. The movie was too short, it felt like there was an action scene every two minutes and he went to like 200 different locations for 30 seconds.

The opera house scene was beauitful though.

Skyfall is going to be the best.

Downloading Battleship and The Hunger Games right now.

Well at least you're not buying Battleship! The 90 mins you spend watching it instead of doing literally anything else is still on you, though. Hunger Games isn't particularly good, but Jennifer Lawrence is so awes that it works.

I actually had a steelbook version pre-ordered (mainly because it was a steelbook :tongue2:), but I canceled it. If I enjoy it though (which is fully possible, because I can enjoy a "shitty" popcorn flick if it entertains me :max:), I might pre-order again.

I heard Snow White and the Huntsman was terrible also, but I couldn't pass up the steelbook for that, regardless.

I really, really dug Snow White. It doesn't look or feel quite like anything that's been released in years, and sadly these days that's quite an endorsement. It will look stunning on blu-ray. I like my fair of shit, but Battleship is just crushing is its cynical, inept awfulness. :shrugs:

Interesting. I'll wait for that one then instead of downloading. :)

And yeah, I know what you mean, but I've heard mixed things. I mean, I'm not expecting it to be amazing, but I'm expecting to be entertained. We'll see, though.

Also, I posted a video for it a couple days ago, but what did you think of I Love You, Phillip Morris, Angelica? I would think you would have loved/enjoyed it, but I'm not sure. That's such a great movie.

Seen both of them, Kes is a fuckin' good film y'know, Lindsay Anderson if i'm not mistaken. Or was it Loach? Fuckin' bloke called Lindsay, i bet he had a good time at school

You should check out Saturday Night & Sunday Morning and a Taste of Honey and A Kind of Loving and Look Back in Anger and Georgy Girl. I can't tell you how good it is to find someone with an appreciation for good british cinema, by the way people fuckin' go on you'd think it began with Film Four.
