Nightrain is good. That's the only other song I'd show people unless I was trying to make them laugh or cry.

...or wanted their input on whether the vocals should be overdubbed
Exactly. Every song other than CD, Jungle, Better and Nightrain has lots of terrible vocals. So all of them would be candidates.

The Seeker is the BEST performance of the whole show. I also really like Don't cry, only 1 part that is a little sub par, but then Axl fixes it. Used to love her and patience are pretty solid as well.

Is it me or is Ron playing a little bit of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds prior to The Seeker?

(side note: I'm upset that The Seeker is on my TV right now)

I have had The Seeker stuck in my head since I first saw the show. Axl sounds fucking great on that one, the whole band does for that matter. I love it!!! I hope it's on the next album now, it's a great re introduction to NUgnr.

No disrespect to you or your like for The Seeker, but if there's a studio cover of that on the next GN'R album, I may just lose my mind.

Why not though??? Just this one, I'm not talking a bunch of covers. They play it so well, and it's pretty much a guaranteed radio type song. it's a much safer bet for a hit, than an unknown song. If it takes The Seeker to get people interested in gnr again, why not?

For me personally? Because I can't stand The Who :/

Obviously we all are entitled to our own opinions, but a record collector like yourself doesn't like the who? Pinball wizard, baba o reily, squeeze box, the seeker, my generation, who are you, etc. The Who have some great songs man, you don't like any of them?

I don't like Seeker so I forgot to mention it, but yeah, that's fine, although he's just kinda talk-singing. Nothing very impressive. Don't Cry gets fucked by that one part, and also by being a boring as shit song in general  , and UTLH is no good imo. Patience is like Don't Cry.

I've watched the dvd up until This I Love now. Estranged was a little off in the beginning (like he was trying to find the right tone to sing it in) but besides that I thought it was good. The screams on Live And Let Die were good also.

Like I've said before CD and Jungle were good.

Anyone else a little sad with this release? Music? Fine. But a live concert video under the name Guns N' Roses with DJ et al just tarnishes the legacy. At least with music, there's nothing to see, and you'd have to actually look up who's playing what. And youtube whatever is fine, but an official release in stores of a random, less than stelar show? Not for me. The only nu gnr concert I'm interested in an official release of is HOB 01-01-01 and even then.....

Ok so I want to discuss The Seeker....

IMO it is the best overall performance on the DVD. Axl sounds great, the band sounds great, and as a matter of fact it is the closest thing to a "new song" that we have gotten since Going Down leaked. Despite the fact that it's a cover, I think it is brilliant, and here is why....

One of the things that made me like Axl/gnr in the beginning is that they could play other bands songs better than the original artists. When I was discovering gnr way back when (20~25 years ago), I always prefered gnr's verions of ALL of the following over the original version; knockin, whole lotta rosie, mama kin, since i don't have you, sympathy for the devil, dead flowers, free fallin, under my wheels, hair of the dog, black leather, live and let die, nice boys, and perhaps even more. Obviously this is just my opinion, and many of you might not share this opinion, but it is honestly how I feel/felt.

Well this version of The Seeker is the first time I have heard Axl do a better cover than the original artist since way back when. So despite the fact that it is "just a cover" as a fan I really appreciate how good this cover is.

I know many will not share these opinions, but like I said, it's just my opinion, and I do prefer all of these covers over the original versions....

I enjoy The Seeker and Axl clearly gets into playing it, but to be fair, it isn't a hard song to sing at all, so it's understandable that Axl sounds good on it.

I agree that the verses are not difficult, but the chorus when he says "low and high" and goes vocally from low to high is not easy. I'm not saying it's the most difficult vocal part ever written either, but it is a part that only professional singers could pull off properly, you're not going to hear some "dude" in a karaoke place pull it off either. So to say it's an easy song is not really fair either. It's a solid 7/10 on the difficulty scale imo, because of that one part.

I honestly fully agree with you about The Seeker, I really like it, but even the part you're talking about is not hard  I'm just basing this off of my self of course, so maybe I'm just a good singer? But either way, I don't find any part of the song hard to sing at all, especially in the style Axl does it. 3/10 on the difficulty scale :tongue2:

That said, he performs it very well and definitely gets into it, so I don't mind them playing it. 100x better than Don't Let It Bring You Down, which is possibly the most boring cover the band has done. By Neil Young standards Axl sounded fine on it, but it was just very mundane.

Most Neil Young songs are kind of mundane. I personally like Neil, he's a great songwriter, but as a whole I'm very blah about most of them. Which honestly I think a lot of people feel the same way. They are good songs, they just don't get you movin'...

I agree. I would not mind if Axl did 20 records of covers. When I was younger I used to

think it was a pity Elvis did not record even more songs than he did (and a pity many of

the songs have an outdated production). In a same way, I would like Axl to do as many

songs as possible, new or covers.

Watching the rest of the dvd now.

I liked Better though Axl doesn't seem to be singing it with as much power as he usually do. Better has always been one of my favorites live.

I don't care what anyone says, but I really enjoy Motivation. I saw three shows in 2012 and Motivation was great and the audience responded well to it I thought.

Rockfuel, I commend your efforts. As far as your part goes I don't think it could've been done any better and it's top notch, first class all the way through.

Now to the part that you couldn't control..... I knew it would happen but I've got a serious case of buyer's remorse. Axl sounds just awful at times and Ashba makes so many mistakes it's unbelievable.

As a musician myself I tend to pick up on all the little things that most probably don't hear and he's so out of key at times, hitting wrong notes, and anything else you can think of. I don't know for sure if it's him or not but during estranged someone is continously hitting the wrong chords especially during the breakdown portion.

I'm glad I got it, but then again I hate that I did, just like I thought I would. GN'R continues to be a 'guilty pleasure' these days that I wouldn't want anyone to know that I listen to now.

Guns N’ Roses are joining the 3D world with Appetite for Democracy 3D: Live from the Hard Rock Casino – Las Vegas. Released early next month, the DVD captures their November 21, 2012 performance at the Las Vegas venue as part of 25th anniversary celebrations of Appetite for Destruction. It is the band’s first official concert movie since 1992’s Use Your Illusion, recorded at Japan’s Tokyo Dome.

I watched it on TV and this was the first full show I have watched since...well, RIR3. I've seen clips of songs between then and now, but not an entire show. I have to say that I was mortified and depressed throughout. Wtf has HAPPENED to this band? DJ was enough to make me weep. Just...no :(

Watched the full thing last night for the 1st time. Production/sound is amazing. RF did a great job putting this thing together.

As for the performance of the band - Axl is all over the place. When he's bad, it's BAD. When he's good, it's GREAT. Which is kind of exactly what's been going on for the past decade+. So no surprise there. Seems like it took Axl a while to feel comfortable.

Was pleasantly surprised by his good performance on Street of Dreams. Throughout, it was as-if Axl had trouble with the simple verses of songs, but would nail the hard parts. Then finally near the end of the show, started nailing almost everything.

Ashba is annoying, per usual. Here's a fun game: Take a shot every time he gives the cam the finger/eggs-on the crowd. You'd pass out before Axl changes his wardrobe for the first time. Can he not just play the damn songs the right way, without being an attention whore? His antics make me appreciate Fortus/Bumble so much more.

Those guys have taken the time to master their parts and be respectful - instead of constantly trying to get the camera on themselves.

Met Ashba at an '11 show, and he's a nice dude, really talented guitar player, but damn. Just too much.

As a certified GnR lifer, I appreciate that we finally have something official to document this "new" era. For the general public consumption's sake, I wish they would've selected some of the best performances from the entire residency, and put those together.

Hopefully next time I post it'll be a review for an EP/LP/anything with new music.
