So I've watched a little more. DC, Civil War and The Seeker were all great imo. So far, I'm really happy with how it turned out.

And for the price of a couple of drinks at the bar they shipped it from the States to Europe in a week. I'm sure all loser (illegal) downloaders like to get paid for doing their job too. I know I do.

I finally got around to watching some of this and ended up doing the same thing I always do when watching GNR from this Era... Turned it off and put on some 2010 YouTube videos. Rockfuel did an amazing job on their end but at the end of the day it's all about Axl. And Axl retired after the 2010 tour only to be replaced by someone's uninspired grandma.

I just want to thank for those powers that be that stopped Dont let it bring you down from appearing on the final tracklist of Appetite for Democracy. Axl sounds like an old woman about to croak when he sings that song, particular the chorus 'dont let it bring you down, its only castles burning, Find someone who's turning. And you will come around"

The Seeker is definitely the highlight of the show and jungle (most of patience except the last note where the old womans voice rears its ugly head).

The general public could have been subjected to a lot worse than Dj's fuckups and bullshit antics if dont let it was ever included.Thank god we and everyone in the public, dodged that bullet!

Just watched three of my favorite songs and here's my review:

Nightrain: Sounds good. Axl's lack of movement helps him to sing and breath without struggling. Still some cringe Mickey moments. Rating: A

Better: Watching DJ instead of Robin playing this on an official nuGNR release is heart-breaking. Band sounds good. Axl sounds bad and it feels really uncomfortable to watch and listen to him struggling so much to breath. Rating: C

Estranged: BBF's tone is so digital and thin it makes me miss Slash right away. Axl sounds sad and weak. DJ simplifies Slash's solo. This band should not play this song. Rating: D

Cringe moments: Every shot of DJ and Pitman, Axl's knee dancing, Axl's "Ooowwws", slow motion scenes.

Pros: Sound and image quality.

just watched NR... the dancers, the flying piano, the coins and cards painted on said piano, ashba. SO MUCH CHEESE! axl's voice sounds really weird also.

Man, you can put that sentence in your sig.

You don't need to keep repeating the same kind of stuff over and over again ...

Are you in a political campaign, or something?

Haha

Can't think of a good name for said political party but it will definitely be represented by a Giraffe lol

I really wish they had done this with the UCAP tour. Imagine a "Best of" DVD with Philly performances, Mama Kin, Better with Robin, Dead Flowers, Shacklers etc... That'd not leave us wanting more.

This would be so cool. The UCAP tour is one of the best things Axl has ever done. The Detroit gig is the best show I have ever been to and he sounded great.

I'm just glad we now have something though!

Man, I always thought Estranged was consistent since 2011. Sucks that everyone says its a travesty here as I was really looking forward to it

To quote RocketQueen1985:

It's not the best version of Estranged but it doesn't suck either.

Watched it last night. What can I say? Axl is an idiot if he lets Ron walk away. Give him anything he wants, whether it be songwriting credits or a pay rise - this man is the best thing in GNR by a mile (including Axl). My interest in NuGNR would seriously diminish if he left.

As for Uncle Axl, well, it wasn't his finest hour, was it? Most songs sounded passable, some were downright dreadful for a professional singer. All the flying pianos in the world couldn't hide the fact that November Rain was ropey as hell. Granted, yes he picked up a bit by the second half, but you can't really enjoy a performance which is 75% dreadful and 25% stellar. I found this to be the case with TIL as well. He really belted out the choruses, but the second verse made me cringe and I always dread that long note at the end ("I'll never say goodbyyyyyyeee").

He did pretty well on most the AFD songs and sounded surprisingly good on SOD. I found CITR to be somewhat underwhelming, but that's a big favourite of mine, so perhaps my expectations were too high. I did notice how Ron pulled a little orgasm face during the last verse of Catcher. He seems to really love that song.

All in all, yes it's great to have another official release from this band, but a live DVD from 2010 would've been so much better. I can imagine Slash watching this DVD thinking "hmmm, maybe it all panned out for the best."

Is it just me or is the greatest part of the show is on nightrain where Axl says " just one more fuckin time tonight"

Reminded me of 06 standards

I thought Nightrain all round was surprisingly good considering.

Just watched Rocket Queen. Hiring those dancers was a genius move by Axl, they look gorgeous and add tons of integrity to this version of GNR.

Can't believe Axl went from trying to be a mix of NIN and Queen or whatever to play stuff like The Seeker. Yes, it's the first time I watched nuGNR playing it.

Estranged was the worst. Axl couldn't find the right voice on the first part and then the second part has never really seen a good performance.

Atleast there is Tokyo 92 Estranged though! I think that one is awesome.

This IMO Is the best version of Estranged that I have ever heard, especially the second part.

But basically, we have what I call kind of the second half of 'Chinese'. That's already recorded. And then we have a remix album made of the songs from 'Chinese'. That's been done for a while, too."

Copy and paste from what I said in the other thread-

So far I've seen ChiDem, WTTJ, ISE, Brownstone, Estranged, Catcher, SCOM, YCBM, Catcher, NR, Don't Cry, Civil War, Patience, KOHD, Nightrain, and Paradise City

First of all, you did a phenominal job Rockfuel. The sound is sublime and the video is great. Just excellent work!

Second of all, I was expecting the worst but Axl even sounds pretty great at times. Nothing has made me really cringe and so far I think Brownstone and November Rain may be the weakest of what I have seen. It isn't 2010 or his best 2011-2012 show but it defininetly isn't terrible. Its even great at times.

I gotta admit, the DVD is growing on me. I know that sounds kind of odd for a live DVD, but now that I'm over the initial disappointment of expecting better from Axl vocally, I can enjoy it for what we have.

And in his defence, there are several performances where he really brings his A game, especially on Nightrain and Street Of Dreams. It's just such a shame about November Rain. Call me a nancy all you like, but I fucking love that song and he really struggles on it. Ah well, win some lose some, I spose.
