Archtop
I have doubts about the lowering of the voting age, as the mother of teens, sometime their blatant repeat of somebody else's ill informed hyperbole outstands me. Even worse YouTube is the gospel truth. We will have a voting nation based on the views of Zoella and Pewdiepie! Not saying that all 16 year olds are uninformed and I am aware of generalising but there is a huge difference of education and learning between 16 and 18 year olds.

I didn't want to vote at sixteen, and wouldn't now give my sixteen year old self the vote either. My main interests at that age were the playing of Tekken and football, illegal drinking and scurrying around to 'somebody's house' because 'everybody had heard' that they happened to have in their a possession, gathered in shards of some low rate porno mag featuring German housewives (I grew up before the internet).

AtariLegend
No NI party leaders, despite both DUP/Sinn Fein having more seats than all of them there except Lib Dems/SNP. SDLP also have as many seats as Plaid and more than obviously Green/UKIP. UUP also have more seats than Greens and UKIP. Not that I'm a fan of any of them. ...And if we're suggesting it's just because they only run in NI, well what about Plaid/SNP?

You only had to go into a doctors with a common cold to successfully claim 'disability'. We always borrow money, either way. What I was saying was maybe Brexit is a way to stop relying onborrowing so much. At the moment we were allowed to borrow so much because we are a decent place to send immigrants or refugees to from all these countries we destablize. On the other hand I can't see financial services fiddling, tax breaks for small businesses, increased tourism being enough to replace manufacturing or military spending. But like Michael Caine said he'd rather be a poor boss than rich slave? So it just seems like pride fucking with us. But how long would the EU party last, and how's it working out for everyone. Feels like Brexit vote was fake in a way, It'sa hunch it would be better. I have that feeling that EU is going down and bad things are going happen. UK is best out of it. Selfish though as it is. Not saying that all 16 year olds are uninformed and I am aware of generalising but there is a huge difference of education and learning between 16 and 18 year olds. I think 16 year olds deserve a right to vote on the party that will impact their lives the most in the next 1/2 years. The difference in education that you mentioned is where it should start... schools should really start teaching kids about politics not only at a younger age, but at all. I learnt about politics of my own volition when it should be an essential topic; people wanting to keep kids blind to the realities of the way society functions (not saying you do), do more harm than good. Kids are more intelligent than people give them credit for.
Archtop
I was not suggesting that Kids are not intelligent, by implying this I would be doing my own children a disservice. I am questioning the education they currently receive to make an informed decision. Politics is covered to some degree in PSHE classes but should the voting age be lowered than I think politics needs lo be a bigger part of the curriculum. I'm glad you've surveyed all 16-year olds to get an accurate assessment about what "most" of them care about. Again, lowering the age would cause them to become educated and care about it at a younger age. This is their immediate future, and they don't deserve to get stuck with a leadership that will destroy theirs without any say at all. Or 10 year olds? We could teach them about politics in the juniors? It's fine the way it is.
