Evidently he doesn't trust anyone then. Also, Pawnshop Guitars is a decent record, and Monkey Chow is up there with the best songs on the Snakepit record. If Izzy was truly gone- then Axl seemingly wanted someone else from his Indiana youth to write with (that he had written with before too). With everything else going on at the time (i.e. Axl v. Slash)- also probably didn't help that Gilby owed his spot in the band to Slash and would therefore understandably be a "Slash loyalist" at the end of the day... It's understandable that both Gilby and Matt were Slash loyalist, but unlike Matt, Gilby playing nice non-confrontational guy till the end, but still get ditched. While Matt had known for opposing Axl many times yet he didn't get fired until Slash leave. Like man, Axl main theme was loyalty, he stuck and keep everyone till the end as long as they're meet certain standard, At the time Gilby admitted at last UYI concert Axl already said to him that "this is probably your last concert". Then Axl still trying to hold Gilby until after Spaghetti album, but then fired him and trying to bring some big name like Zakk Wylde because obviously he's dissapointed and want someone better.
