OTGM had some Mickey even in 2016. SOYL is powerful from beginning to the end. I'd say the opposite is true... yea songs like OTGM, Jungle, My Michelle, etc. had bits of Mickey in 2016 but it wasn't nearly enough to bring the songs down. Overall they were still way better in 2016 than they were in 2017-19. And with Shadow, even when he's singing raspy, it's a shrieking sort of voice that doesn't sound nearly as 'natural' as his 2016 raspy voice did. It sounds uncomfortable, and he changes the phrasing or cuts off words to accommodate for the forced rasp. Gibsonfender2323
I rather have Axl sing clean. Then singing like he gargles with shards of glass like he did 91-93. The studio vocals are actually clean "rasp". Not like harsh they are very cleanly rasped Edited October 20, 2019 by Gibsonfender2323

He's screaming. There's nothing unnatural about that. Switching between a Mickey voice and a raspy voice like he does on OTGM for example is honestly much more unnatural, than screaming with the same voice throughout the whole song like he does on SOYL. 12 minutes ago, Gordon Comstock said: It sounds uncomfortable He sang like that all the time with AC/DC, so he's more than comfortable using that voice. Not sure why it sounds uncomfortable to you. 23 minutes ago, Gordon Comstock said: he changes the phrasing or cuts off words to accommodate for the forced rasp. First of all it's not forced rasp. His voice is naturally raspy when he screams. That's why he was so raspy on the Brian Johnsson songs cause they were all screaming songs, just like SOYL. Not sure what you mean with changing the phrasing or cutting words. He sings it almost exactly like on the studio version. Sometimes he seems to say "I ain't standing" instead of "so I ain't standing", but it's because the tempo of the song is so fast.
Gordon Comstock
@Lies They Tell he's screaming on SOYL, but it doesn't sound like his AC/DC voice.... unless you mean when his voice started cracking on Hell's Bells, Thunderstruck, etc. I don't listen to every single performance so maybe the one I just listened to was an off night (ACL weekend 2) but I'll put it this way: he's screamed his way through the 'So full of anger...' part in Better too, but it doesn't sound nearly as good as the AC/DC songs. Just because he's screaming doesn't mean it's gonna sound as great as Back In Black. SOYL is a lot more comparable to the bridge in Better than AC/DC tunes... Is there another audio recording of ACL weekend 2 floating around? I noticed that someone mentioned the Arlington, TX 2016 was a strong performance from Axl. However, back in 2016 people said the Houston gig was miles better. How much better could the Houston gig have possibly been? I had a sixth row ticket to the Houston gig, but couldn't make it due to a family emergency. I did attend and tape the Arlington 2016 show. I was in row 5(?) on the lower level section nearest the stage. Great show! Far superior to the turd in a punch bowl ACL # 2 gig I caught last weekend. I wasn't sure whether or not to tag you, but it was your recording of SOYL I was listening to. Thanks again for sharing it. Has the full show been posted? Houston was arguably the best show on the tour and was considered 'miles better' than a lot of those 2016 shows, but Arlington was really good too. I have a mastered 16-44 version from our friend, Limulus. I was planning to track the Austin 10-11-19 recording this weekend. However, I have been sick (allergies, I hope) and not in the mood to do much of anything that requires concentration. I also want to include liner notes that roast the current state of GNR. I need to be at/near 100% to do that. For the record, I don't think I have listened to a single song from the Houston 2016 gig. I was bummed to have missed it. I remember being at my home on the night of the show, taking care of my ailing family member, and thinking, how much better could the Houston gig possibly be than the Arlington show I just caught?!? I woke up on August 6th to see fans all over the forum praising the Houston gig like it was the second coming of the August 3rd, 1991 LA Forum show. Oh well, life goes on. Now I haven't heard the ACL performance that you're talking about. Either you're hearing voice cracks where there is none, or maybe he actually had an off night. All I know is that I've never even once heard a SOYL performance that would have anything to do with Bridge School or a cracking voice. It's just pure powerful screaming night after night on SOYL. That's why this conversation sounds absurd. But who knows, cause I haven't heard the ACL performance. It's possible that there's one performance out there when he's not as strong as usually. But the couple of times when his voice was cracking on Hells's Bells or Thunderstruck don't define how he sounded on those songs in general. Neither should one weaker performance of SOYL be an example of how he sounds on that song in general.

But I hate how he sings everything in falsetto now. It's really quite poor. We just need 2010 Axl back
