It doesn't make sense. It doesn't have to make sense, and a lot of times it doesn't to someone on the outside looking in. RIP Chris Cornell. Never cared much for grunge outside of Nirvana, but Cornell was an extremely talanted singer, with many adoring fans
AlexC
Incredible vocalist and songwriter and definitely the most versatile amongst the "big 5." I'm gutted I never got the chance to see Soundgarden live, I was really stoked about their new album announcement too. Badmotorfinger along with AiC's Dirt were the greatest albums to come out of the Seattle grunge scene in my opinion. He will be sorely missed. A beautiful wife and millions on your bank doesnt make you a happy person. But this is just speculation here. Obviously. But still, at least 2 reasons (meaning the kids... not the wife and the millions) to get your shit together and pull through. If it turns out to indeed be suicide, it just baffles the mind, how one can just go on stage, do the show, knowing it will be the last time ever and then just end it all a couple of hours later, leaving everyone high and dry. AxlRoseCDII
Very, very sad to hear the information of Cornell's death. Me and my friend had a very spiritual moment where she showed me her favorite songs involving Cornell this past summer, and I loved Temple of the Dog and the song "Say Hello 2 Heaven". May he rest in peace and may his family take the appropriate time to mourn the loss of this fantastic frontman.
Black Sabbath
I'm devastated, honestly. Soundgarden quickly shot their way into my Top 10 bands a few years ago and I saw them and Chris numerous times and each show was amazing. Such an amazing person, and I'm truly hoping it wasn't suicide, as that would make this whole thing even harder to accept. I remember when they announced their tour that they were currently on and I was so bummed none of the shows were anywhere near me and I was eager for them to announce more, closer to the East Coast. The last time I saw Soundgarden was July 30th, 2014. The last time I saw Chris solo was June 22nd, 2016. This is a tough one.

Streetchild
Such a tragic news. I was lucky enough to have seen him live with the Soundgarden reunion, and once front row at a solo concert. He was such a brilliant singer. RIP Chris
Georgy Zhukov
Strange he died right after a concert. Almost like a Spinal Tap moment. RIP. One of the greatest voices in music.
Silent Jay
Sources who talked with Vicky Karayiannis Thursday morning tell TMZ that she spoke with her husband during soundcheck before he took the stage with SOUNDGARDEN in Detroit and after Wednesday night's show at the Fox Theatre. Vicky is reportedly adamant that Chris was "not in any way, shape or form in a suicidal state. She doubled down and said there were no signs he was at all depressed," according to the site. Cornell's wife called a family friend Wednesday night and asked him to check on the singer's well-being. When the friend forced opened the hotel room door, he found the SOUNGARDEN frontman on the bathroom floor. Police in Detroit told Billboard that they are investigating Cornell's death as a possible suicide. Director Michael Woody of the Detroit Police Department's media relations said on Thursday morning that officers received a 911 call at midnight from an unnamed person at the MGM Grand Casino in downtown Detroit requesting assistance. "When the units arrived they were met by a gentleman who indicated that Chris Cornell had been found in his room," Woody said. "When officers went to the room they found Chris Cornell laying in his bathroom, unresponsive and he had passed away. We are investigating it as a possible suicide but we need to wait on the medical examiner to determine the cause and manner of death." SOUNDGARDEN spokesperson Brian Bumbery called the death "sudden and unexpected" and said Cornell's wife and family were shocked by it. In a statement, he said the family would be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause and asked for privacy. During their 13-year marriage, Cornell and Karayiannis became parents to two children — Toni, 12, and Christopher, 11. Cornell was also father to daughter Lillian Jean, 16, from his first marriage to former SOUNDGARDEN manager Susan Silver.

Popular Post Dan H.
Just goes to show how often mental illness can go unnoticed until the end. Perhaps many can use this story to alter their previously held assumptions of depression and suicide.

Silent Jay
Chris Cornell remembers the moment he was told of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain’s death. He says it was an emotional experience. “We came offstage and were about to go on for the encore, and I think the bass player of Tad came in and told us,” Cornell told CNN. “He just kind of barged in and was emotional, and started talking about the reports that they had found Kurt but they weren’t sure if it was him or not, but it was.” The news came as a shock. “We all got very emotional; it was very surreal,” Cornell said. “We weren’t home; we weren’t around any people we knew. I guess, in a sense, we could all take solace in the fact that — especially Soundgarden — that we were born from this idea that we played kind of dark moody music. Our identity … in a sense kind of was a band that created a soundtrack for that type of weird awful scenario.”
Black Sabbath
I can't believe it. I was really hoping that wasn't the case, and obviously it seems it wasn't a David Carradine situation (not that that would have been any better). I hope he left some kind of note or something, if not explaining things, then maybe saying goodbye to his family. But it's likely he probably didn't. I'm devastated.
