Iron MikeyJ Posted October 13, 2014 Author Posted October 13, 2014 Is Lies considered an EP? I see it more like 2 EPs or a short album if combined.Yes, Lies is considered an EP, (but I think it is only two minutes in length shorter than Van Halen's Diver Down, which is consodered a LP). But as far as I'm (ME) is concerened, it's gnr's 2nd album. I also consider the Illusions as seperate albums, not a double album (because by 70's standards they would be 2 double albums). So as of now Axl/Gnr have released 6 albums. Which is a "decent" amount of music IMO. No it's not GREAT, but it's not Sex Pistols, one and done, bad either. I'm not as negative about Axl's output as most. Yes it should be better, but 6 albums is nothing to sneeze at.A Hard Days Night was only 31 minutes and that's not considered as an EP. What classifies Lies as one? Is it the amount of songs?Honestly I think it has to do with the fact that "The Powers That Be" just plain didn't want to say Lies was the official follow up to Appetite. Perhaps the old LLAS songs had something to do with it??? I can't really answer that. But I do know that the band didn't really work hard on it at all. All 4 of the new songs only took a few takes, and the old songs were already done. I'm pretty sure Slash said in his autobiography it was the easiest money he ever made. They made a TON of money, with very little effort. But like I said before, to me, it is the 2nd gnr album. They should have put Shadow of your love on it as well though.... Quote

DieselDaisy Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Little RichardNeil Young - Everybody Knows this is NowhereChuck Berry - One Dozen BerrysThe Freewheelin' Bob DylanMetallica - Ride the Lightning (granted, I do not really listen to metal these but the jump between, Kill 'Em All and Lightning is huge.)I know its an old Robert Johnson rip, but I don't care because they one uped Mr. Johnson!!!I ain't fuckin' havin' that, no way man, no way on earth.Ah but they did. You can disagree all you want, but I feel that every Zep rip/cover is FAR better than the originals. They took those songs to unimaginable heights, places the original artist never could have. That's the mark of a great band IMO. Guns had that quality as well. Not to piss my boy Lenny off, but I prefer MOST of TSI over the Punk original counterparts, especially Black Leather To unimaginable depths more like it. Quote

DieselDaisy Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 GNR Lies isn't an album. It's a huge cash grab in the form of two combined EPs.I would not call it a cash grab though. It was a stop gap product which fulfilled a scheduling gap.Three pages and not a single mention of Queen II?Queen II - QueenMea culp. There is a huge jump in quality between Queen and Queen 2. Quote
