I have serios doubts this shot down is of the band , but too is weird this be in this precise moment about promove the box set...GNR silence don't help to we think wathever....

Like I said I think it’s a record company thing. They will set the lawyers to shutting down Shadow on youtube so people go get the cd.

It probably has nothing to do with the management, they manage the band not releases. And the band members nd management can’t really legally do anything as it is copyright infringement strictly speaking.

But how much does it effect sales, you either have a grand to buy a box set or not. And then when you look at the numbers they need to make it successful, it looks like they don’t need to sell that many.

And the band only get 10% so they must 90% not care how much it sells.

Team Brazil were probably gormless enough to see things like the Saskatoon video as a serious threat to their $1000 box of shite so spurned on these sycophantic fans to go mad essentially, removing everything.

But the box is about having the packaging? It’s merch porn.

They play Shadow but I don’t think there’s a lot of money in it. It’s a legacy release. The real money is in the shows.

My one complaint about the box set is the hinges on the door. For a grand it looks like some gash diy job I did in the garage.

It’s all about hinges in the 21st century, or lack of them, I want an automatic slide door on it. Remote control, a free drone...maybe the CD box set will be hologram enhanced.

That doesn't make much sense either though. They have uploaded Shadow themselves on youtube, as well as the ISE video, and it doesn't look like the strikes have been targeting so much the demos that are included in the box (they were taken down from channels with a lot of GnR content, but it doesn't seem they were bothered to the extent to look for every channel that has them). Moreover, all the content of the box is available on Spotify for free streaming anyway, so people don't have to buy the CD to listen to these tracks.

Whoever does it, they have been striking, apart from recent leaks, fan made videos which promoted the current band and the tour. Why the management or the label would want to do that?

But advertisers want the hits on those sites, not a loyal fans labour of love youtube channel. I don’t really understand it, but digital marketing is legit these days, it’s not the wild west anymore.

It could be competitor youtubers fighting each orher? East coast west coast of youtube wars. Dan the Diamond Minecart is going to have to keep the peace.

Yeah, I found that shameful when the guy said “faux-leather”. Not that actual leather would improve the box set. This thing was done before it started.

Never shoulda asked for Black Leather.

You so quick witted. The box set is obviously a record label idea. The band doesn’t care.

Fiddy u so widdy.

4 years since the last release the recomp either asked for ideas or suggested it.

Maybe the recomp even looks at popularity of bootlegs on youtube and thinks this is the move. But it’s like a default setting these days. Nirvana have re-released, remastered stuff. I’m not a boxset guy so don’t know who else did this. Was Mothership or a Nevermind the Bollocks ever a boxset.

Couldn't agree more. Even if they're behind it (which would be a REALLY stupid move) they really should address the issue. We know they're (GN'Rs management) very aware of the issue because they read the board regularly.

Let's be honest. Guns N' Roses' management doesn't give a shit. They're more than happy to let UMC bend us over with the AFD boxset and make copyright claims to remove existing demos on YouTube. I'm sure they don't give a shit about some fans doing the same to other 'unauthorized' material on the internet. The online GNR community is what it is because of the management's piss-poor communication and lack of care. Guns N' Roses and it's management have to be some of the worst in the industry, and that unfortunately impacts our community as well.

one of the chaps behind this has done "some leaking" in the recent past. maybe he has been told to get his leaks out of circulation "or else" and he is hitting the fan channels before his leaks turn up on them. just a thought.

Well there's that aspect too. Like "someone else is doing the dirty work, sweet!". Which is think is very possible.

I know we can't discuss banned posters by name, but the person suspected of being behind the UziSuicidal copyright claims was actively protected by the former owner of this forum.

She.Had.A.Very.Unique.Way.Of.Using.Punctuation

When I brought up her obvious aliases with admins (since she was supposedly banned), they responded in PM's that she was unstable and there was nothing they could do about it. But then publicly on the board they would claim ignorance. So I posted a screencap of the PM a mod sent me stating that she was unstable. I think I got probation for a month and the poster in question freaked out and made a bunch of other aliases in response.

So yeah, very possible the copyright claims are being done to try and impress Axl and Team Brazil.

There's a similar obsessive guy in pro wrestling circles named Jonathan Barber. He started an anti-piracy service, and if you owned a wrestling company, you could hire him to patrol YouTube/DailyMotion/etc. for copyrighted content. The problem is everyone knew him as a joke from years before when he obsessively posted about this terrible wrestling promotion named XPW, and he would stalk people who used to work for XPW trying to interview them for an XPW book he was writing. He spends all day vanity searching his name and working for peanuts trying to impress wrestling promoters who hate him (he'll probably see this and show up to yell at me). He was also banned from Wikipedia like 500 times.

edit: he is so famous that he has his own Wikipedia page - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Long-term_abuse/JB196

It's a good read - he's very similar in personality to what the GNR community is dealing with

I got on YouTube yesterday to listen to some GnR that I have on my playlist. I'd say about half of it is unplayable now. Like honestly, how is something like "gn'r better additional instruments" something that would cause harm to anyone? A few clips of sounds effects and a partial instrumental is deserving of a strike or removal? Come off of it! Whoever is doing all of this crap needs to get a life, seriously!

I remember hearing the episode with ****** and he said that the GnR camp is not happy with him, yet he know is a representative of the band?! Sounds like someone is living in LaLaLand!

First I think the band has all the right to protect their copyright and all. But look at how other established acts treat their fansbase and compare that to GN'R. There is no official "channel" to communicate, no spokesperson, everything is hush-hush, closed circle or no communication at all - resulting in hearsay, lies, rumours and bored people doing stupid shit hurting the band and other fans when in the end all of them have one thing in common that should unite all: they passionately love the band and their music.

From the outside, it looks more like a take the money and run situation, yet when you meet them in person they turn out to be really nice people who actually seem to care for their fans. So why not just organise it all a bit better, open up a bit more and in that control and eventually dry the swamp of bullshit in a much nicer and effective manner? The way they go about it now makes all the "real" fans suffer for loving the band as just because they don't feel like dealing with the bs they shut everything down. I don't get it. They make it all too hard for everyone. Guess it comes with the territory of letting friends and family handle the business? I don't know any other band in the history of music that has a more strained relationship with their hrdcore fans. Just relax everyone, it might take away a bit from the mistique but it might take everything to the next level and sustain much nicer into the future.

I completely agree with this. I've been such a huge GNR fan for 25 years. And yet I feel as if they treat their fans as "we do what we want and you have the privilege to listen to them".  now,  I don't truly think that's the case. I do think that they are appreciative of their fans. But the way they go about doing things, it just doesn't seem like it. Take for instance last week's box set release. None of the members promoted it. It would have been really cool to get a couple quotes from Axl just talking about the recording of some of those songs. Or even slash.  Instead it was "pay us a couple hundred bucks and will give you the privilege of owning versions of songs that you've already heard many times in the last 15 years". The hardcore fans are the only ones that purchased that box set, and we heard 95 percent of this stuff. I think we deserve a little bit more.

But at the same time I'm sure the bands point of view is that we don't have to buy it, or anything associated with the band. We have the choice of whatever we purchase.

I just wish that they were more fan-friendly.

LaLaLand :) i see what you did there.

if he is representing the band they must be very gullible people. i do not believe he has their backing.

his own youtube channel has a supposed leak on it amongst other material, have you seen the horse video where he names them after admin/mods of this forum ?

i'm listening to the 2001 version of madagascar as i type this, and we all know the original source of that leak dont we ? :)

Well said. Duff and Slash were always fan friendly. It’s sad how they have changed and I understand why but still sucks.
