rockphantom
So no COMA this time? I am having second thoughts regarding attending next Friday's Austin gig. It appears the low 1 day ticket price ($120) is justified by the curfew that forces the band off stage by 10pm. When I last saw GNR in Austin, on February 23, 1993, the band didn't go on until 10:10PM!! How times have changed!! Of course, the 1993 lineup of GNR could run circles around the NITL band.... parisrocks
That being said, a shorter setlist w/out that bullshit in the middle made for the best show I’ve seen since ‘02 Chicago and I can’t remember the Michigan show I was at in ‘88, so that should tell you how on fire Axl was. One for the record books.

Gibsonfender2323
UYI GNR was probably the most bloated and dysfunctional version of the band.

Popular Post kiwiguns
Great show and great atmosphere. GNR and its fans were differently a minority and the band a novelty, but that's understandable even the different types of music genres and people attending. It was cool to see alot of non GNR fans take the time to admire and enjoy the show. It's funny when you observe these people as they are drawn to the band, as today's younger generation and music loves, don't understand what a rock n roll band, or rock stars are. The band. Tight as usual, and Axl seems to be in the zone. A number of people around me (non GNR fans), were amazed at his energy, stage presence and vocal range. Small cool little moment between Axl and Melissa. Axl got up on the ramp behind Frank and ended up towards Melissa's side. Melissa seemed to have had a coughing fit, and Axl stopped , put his arm around her to see if she was alright. He must have said something to her that was funny, as they had a laugh together, but that made her cough again, and Melissa did a shoo type movement with her hand, like you would to a dog, to go away. It was all in good fun. Really great to see all members having fun, and more so Axl. Edited October 5, 2019 by kiwiguns

rockphantom
@kiwigunsWas the crowd on the tame or wild side? Was it possible to relax and enjoy the show or did you have to keep your guard up at all times like at a pure rock/metal show? I have a standard GA ticket and I'm planning for next Friday's show. I would appreciate a heads up on the mood of the crowd. Even though it will be a different group of people, the vibe should be similar. I am glad you had fun in Austin! I lived there for 13 years and had more good times than bad. Thank you! Edited October 5, 2019 by rockphantom
Arnuld
Great show. Axl was in good spirits. He actually sounded pretty good on most everything. They had to cut some of the covers due to time restrictions (fine by me) Slash is at his musical Apex. It’s as if his guitar has become a part of his body. The crowd seemed very confused by Better and Chinese Democracy. Seeing Axl do Slither live was a highlight. In 2006 I would have said there would have been a better chance that you would find a unicorn in a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow as the world ended than Axl Rose singing a Velvet Revolver song on stage with Slash in front of 50,000 people. Im bummed they didn’t do Yesterdays. Fingers crossed for next week. Can’t believe I get to do this all over again next Friday. I’ve traveled the world seeing them but this was my first time getting to see them at home. This was Guns first performance in Austin since February of 1993. And if you want to see a set list a die hard could love look up that 1993 show on Setlist.fm 10 minutes ago, rockphantom said: @kiwigunsWas the crowd on the tame or wild side? Popular Post IncitingChaos
Just got back. Loved the short set. Kept the show at a good pace for most of it. Would have been better to drop Better, and Coma for this one. But I gotta say there isn’t a better band for the first 5 songs or 20 minutes than GN’R. They killed it, Axl sounded spot on in this zone. We even got the “Do you know where you are?” Before jungle. Then Better comes on and killed some of the vibe they had built up. LALD got em back but Comagot people out of it again. Axl mixed up his vocals at the end of Coma it was interesting but sounded good. That ending stretch from SCOM-Paradise City was brilliant. The crowd loved the hits coming right after each other, beautiful ending but no confetti haha (Nightrain vocally was incredible!) Overall Axl sounded great, in control for most of the show. His vocals will not sound great on video in the typical spots, I can hear the weaker sounds but everyone enjoyed him (some were surprised with his weight) I think he’s put on 10-15 since I saw them 2 years ago. He was short on breath more than I had seen in the past, and held back on many songs (I have no doubt his voice is in good shape currently though, if he wants it he’s got it) He’s aging though. Slash sounded brilliant. He was truly incredible and it feels more like his show than Axl’s now. Fun show! Excellent festival set, I think everyone around me enjoyed them. SCOM made the crowd go nuts but overall lots of fun!

I lived there for 13 years and had more good times than bad. Thank you! It wasn't to bad. Alot of younger people around me, and they seemed to be respectful. I did stand next to a guy with dread locks, and I got a face full of locks now and than, but he was cool and kept apologising. I must say people were great, and when they saw me wearing a GNR shirt, they made room, and we were able to shuffle our way towards the front to get as close as possible. The biggest issue I had was seeing a snake, slither past me, while walking to the stage area to get our spot. For those that don't know, we don't have snakes in New Zealand, so that experience freaked us out, and we give ourselves up as being tourists, and possibly looking like we were tripping. andrew032302
Is anyone here going the rest of the weekend. If so, I highly advise that y’all see James Blake tomorrow. Playing right after Billie finishes on the Miller Lite Stage.
