I was pleasantly surprised! - place was jam packed (which led to the later start time). Most people were there right till the end. - the only song I wasn't crazy about was Hardskool. Not that it was bad, I just don't like the way its sung. - the sound (and voice) was great. - I heard 8(!) songs I haven't heard live before (9 if you want to include TV Eye) - was nice to hear Reckless and Anything Goes, but I wouldn't be disappointed if I never heard them again. - Maddy, Twat, and even Coma were sublime - I like Witchita, and the acoustic section is great, so I didn't mind it. - Don't Cry would have been the cherry on top... - lastly, the pacing of the show was great. I remember back in 2017 each song sort of dragged, not last night. It was very tight! Toronto GNR Review (9-3-23) I've seen Guns N' Roses every time they've been to Toronto. And in many other cities and countries. But last night was a special show! During Pretenders who were not for me. They also seem to bring down the vibe in the stadium. Some people were really into them though! But about 20 minutes before GNR was expected to hit the stage. The SkyDome filled to capacity. About 40,000 in the seats and another 5,000-10,000 on the floor. Even though we had seats on the floor, we tried to shuffle ourselves to the center into the big open GA area near the back by the dugouts. My group were quickly chased away by security. I figured out how to unlock the chairs to give ourselves more room when we're sitting. The chairs locked together were way too tight. Once we did that everything was good. Lights out. Absolutely love those screens and the graphics were amazing to open the show. GNR packed a punch with the opening bass line from Duff on It's So Easy. When they kicked into Bad Obsession, I was instantly teleported back to the '90s on the UYI tour. I could just picture Teddy up there 🥹 The entire band seemed to be on point from the beginning of the show. I really liked the way they played Chinese Democracy with the new intro and the change in vocal style. It almost seemed like Axl was preserving his voice by changing octaves. Still a little horse .. 😉 I do agree that Hard Skool didn't sound the greatest. I find that Axl has to put way too much effort into the vocal and I worry he's going to blow out his voice early in the show. Hence Montreal 92' or London 22' He powered through it and even mixed up the setlist a bit. Jungle and Perhaps. Probably the best performance of that song. Then Pretty Tied Up! All before Double Talkin' Jive which also seemed to have a shorter outro. I think Axl was just pumped to get into the next song 🤘 Reckless Life was a beast and always fun to hear. Estranged was a crowd favorite and everyone was singing along and screaming at the top of their lungs. Axl really seemed to be really responding to it. He channels the crowd and when they are loud he puts on a good show and he proved that as the night went on. You Could Be Mine was another monster. Frank is a beast! Absurd is a funny song to hear Axl sing. Looks like he actually singles people out in the crowd when he yells absurd! He really gets into it 🤣 Live And Let Die I expected to fall flat without pyro. I was wrong. The crowd was heavily into this one and again Axl was channeling the crowd. Even having some fun on stage during instrumentals. The band jam was up next. Duff seemed to be really into it and seemed to spend a lot of time side stage with the hot blonde singing into her phone like it's a microphone and flailing her arms. More on that later 😉 Up next was Rocket Queen which is always fun. Slash's solos in RQ were particularly amazing. AFD days! Down On The Farm was next and felt fresh. Again, the band was perfect. Especially Richard Foetus. I forgot that they played Anything Goes. Man, does a really good job of making this song sound new. Up next you could hear the horns playing. I knew right away it was Madagascar and I was quite shocked that they played it. I know it was played in honor of MLK's speech a couple shows ago. Definitely didn't expect it here but I also know Axl loves Toronto and tends to pull out all the stops when he's here. Hence 1999's Back Off Bitch, 2010's Catcher In The Rye and 2017's Prostitute. Many people don't recognize the connection that Axl has to this city. Metalworks Recording Studio was an integral piece to finishing the recording of Use Your Illusion I & II albums on time during the early portion of the 91 tour. Civil War was another monster. The crowd started roaring when the Ukraine flag was emblazoned across the screens. That song is always a blast to hear. The graphics on the screen were intense but necessary. Slash's solo seemed better than usual. Really seemed to be into the crowd reactions. The opening licks of Sweet Child O' Mine packed a punch and the crowd responded positively. November Rain was another memorable song last night. Axl was really having fun with it. Graphics are incredible on the screen from the rain falling to the rain falling on the rose. Ultimately to the rain pouring down on the skull. Everything just seemed to click. Again, 90s vibes. Axl even stopped ahead of the solo to pound back some Pedialyte the way he did in the video. Have gave a sly smile to the crowd and then went straight into the outro. Slash was absolutely perfect. As were the rest of the band. Wichita Lineman was next. Axl always sounds really good on this song. The song intro started afterwards and I had no clue what it was and then quickly thought it was IRS. I started singing along to every word only to realize that it was T.W.A.T. It took me by surprise as I definitely didn't expect to hear that. But again it's Toronto! Axl did it justice. I don't know how he powers through those last couple verses screaming but he did it. Melissa also sounds really good on this song. Axl decided that he was going to tell us that Melissa was giving him cut-eye when she seen him drinking. Sounds like he's off the sauce. He made it known to the crowd that he was drinking Pedialyte not alcohol. I could see why considering you sweating profusely early in the show. It is defense. It was extremely hot in the city and SkyDome did a really good job of pumping the AC. With 60,000 people if you get hot pretty quick! He said "It's like someone looking at you from the other end of the bar watching you drink and being ashamed of you after you told them you don't drink anymore." She let out a huge laugh. Melissa is a welcomed addition to the band for sure. Knockin' On Heaven's Door was up next. That song is one of the best ones live. Anyone that is seen GNR in the past knows this. The graphics they use on the screens look amazing. The band just seemed to be having so much fun! Axl wasn't overly talkative to the crowd. He spent more time singing than talking which is always welcomed. He told the crowd that he's been reminded that there is a curfew. At this point it was 10:53 So of course Paradise City is next, right!? I remember telling my son that I guess we're not going to get Coma tonight after all. Only to hear the opening baseline of Coma. The two of us looked at each other and laughed. We were amazed but Axl just mentioned the curfew and decided he was going to play a 10 minute song. So of course we're going to get an abbreviated version of the song to make room for Paradise City. Nope, we got the entire 10 minute song! Even during the haunting final solo before the crazy final verses. Axl started singing Kumbaya. We heard the opening guitar of Paradise City and knew that our night had come to an end. You wanted to stick around to the very end but we left after the first verses. Anyone that knows Rogers Center and the area knows that it can take a while to get from the floor to the concourse and out the door to Bremner. It was a phenomenal fucking night! We took our time walking away from the venue. We knew that we wouldn't be able to call an Uber for quite a while so we just kind of enjoyed the evening as it wasn't too hot. Only about 35°C 🙄 there was a band playing down the street and we could hear them singing YCBM. It was just a full-on party on Brenner. Everybody enjoying themselves and taking their time getting where they need to go. The police were very courteous and had the entire area blocked off for safety. I've been to a ton of shows this year from all kinds of different bands. This was by far the best show I've been to. Not only this year but maybe my favorite GNR show. With exception to 2017. Be sure to check out all the videos on YouTube that people took. I made it a point to not record video and immerse myself in the moment, which is something I don't normally do. When I go to a show. I spend more time recording and watching it back at home because of my eyesight. Don't listen to the haters that say that Axl doesn't sound good or that he's lost it or that the venue didn't sell. All the haters are wrong. This was by far the best show of this tour in my opinion. And one of the best in the career of Guns N' Roses. And like I said I've seen GNR in many cities and countries and that says a lot to my statement. This is a band you can never afford to miss a live. They always sound better in person than they do on a live stream or video. Highlights: 1) Smiling Axl 2) Octave changes in different songs including CD, You Could Be Mine, Coma and Nightrain. 3) Slash solos and general guitar play 4) Duff on T.V. Eye took the time to tell the crowd how great it was to be back in Toronto and that he was having fun tonight. 5) The Pedialyte joke 6) Madagascar & TWAT 7) NASCAR graphics 8) Civil War & Estranged 9) the graphics on November Rain and the outro. 10) Axl saying how much fun it was to be in the city and he started singing Oh Canada. 11) Kumbaya during Coma 12) How tight the entire band was the entire show. Everything seemed to be on point. The band introductions by Axl were also pretty funny, especially the way he introduced Frank. Calling him a " Hurricane, Thunder Chucker Motherfucker." And the way Axl introduces introduced Slash is always funny. But he really seemed to get into it tonight. But the crowd went nuts when he did that. Of course! Gave a powerful introduction to Slash as always. So great to see them back together! I should also mention how professional security was with the crowd other than chasing people away like me from areas we weren't supposed to be in. Made it a point to not block anyone's vision and didn't harass anybody from what I could see. Oh and that was Duff's wife Susan dancing side stage and singing into her phone. You can check out the video on IG. Thanks for taking the time to read this 🤘😝🤘 Apologies for any spelling mistakes! Silly that the preshow merch was inside the Jays shop. It was great when we were there, but then they closed it and used it for the VIP ticket holders at 3:30. So whatever special privileged shopping experience they were given didn’t matter since I was already in there 2.5 hours before them. I’m looking to trade a Toronto Litho for a Pittsburgh one. show #12 for me. Quite please. Merch is put in the Jays shop for that exact reason. They want fans to buy it inside not outside. What's the song? Somebody who isn't going to the show from walking up to the merch stand and buying up everything so the fans can't get it just so they can resell it. This isn't new first Rogers Center. They have been doing this for years. The last time I've seen an outdoor merch stand at Skydome it was probably GNR 2016. The Toronto litho was limited to 250 and was only available at the merch stand on the floor. So if you didn't have floors, you were kind of SOL. Popular Post Miller1254
Ok. Back home, with plenty of time to digest last night’s show. First opinion still stands: It Fucking Rocked. **apologies for length. I just sat down and typed and typed. This was my sixth reunion show, and first since Oct 2017. I struggled with the decision to go for a long time but ultimately pulled the trigger when the stars aligned and was able to make it work a couple days before kids head back to school on a long weekend I was in the pit. Completely in front of Duff’s mic for entire show. Only 1/1.5 ppl between me and the rail all night. Pretenders - I dont know much about them. Went in with little expectation, but perfectly aware the love some have for Chrissie Hynde and many in the pit. IMO they set the tone perfectly for the night. It was happy, fun, enjoyable. Their hits were awesome, and all other songs were well received. I feel a lighter opener (compared to AIC) and more rock (than OLP) was the perfect pairing for what kind of show GNR was about to put on. This seemed like the most fun all members of the band had vs my prior shows. Axl was ear to ear grinning through out, and more about others in a sec. But again, pretenders did their job, didn't bore, didn't get ppl rocking out too hard before what was about to be a 3 10 show. The band came out on fire. Absolutely stunning first three songs. Not sure I’ve heard Axl sound so strong since some of the ‘09 days. After CD, I was on cloud 9. Nothing was going to put a negative spin on my night. Not song selection, not crowd, not potential slights in Axl’s voice, nothing. Anything I say that is not positive, is not anything more than just my opinion on an epic night, and i wouldn’t change a damn thing! Like so many have noted, there were so many songs I’ve never seen the band perform before. BO, PTU Anything Goes and Down on the farm were great. Perhaps was strong, and the band seemed to figure out how to perform it live. When Maddy started, I was taken aback. Never expected to be lucky to hear it again, and it was beautiful. TWAT?!?! Are you kidding me? Complete highlight of the night for me. How were we so lucky to get TWAT and with the kind of performance that Axl was able to deliver? He was perfect for the entire second half of the song. 2016/2017 i was selfish. Why did we get TWAT and not Catcher. I wish they played Prostitute and not Sorry etc etc etc. Last night was different, fresh and every song seemed like the perfect choice. I loved Witchita Lineman, a song i was completely indifferent to in 17. It was such a beautiful rendition. KOHD and RQ were cut down nicely. Loved both Slash and Fortus with these songs. No piano solo before NR. Just Axl delivering the vocals and piano to perfection and slash crushing the solos. It seemed like there was no filler. No time to get a drink or go to the washroom. You could schedule your breaks in 2017. Not last night. Civil War may have been the most electric the pit as a whole rocked out. So much fun belting out the words with so many people. Estranged was an incredible surprise. And as noted when Axl said at the 245 mark that there wouldn’t be an encore, figured PC was next. Instead we still got Coma and NT before taken to the paradise city. Coma - I have no idea if it was good or not. I rocked out far to hard and sang far too loud to be able to hear the band. I am going to just imagine it was a flawless performance, as it was in my head. Just before the band took the stage an 8 year old ninja’d his way right up to the rail. He was right in front of me and completely in Duff’s view straight ahead. For the entire time the little rocker was upfront before his blatter got the best of him, he had Duff’s attention. Throughout the show, Duff was interacting with the kid, with fist pumps, horns and jumping up and down mimicking the kids moves. I’m sure it made the kids night, but it was also so incredible cool for us bystanders witnessing a rock n roll legend getting such a kick of interacting with the kid. Duff has always been a delight to watch, but last night was special. Between this kid, and his wife directly on his right dancing, rocking out, Duff seemed to be in the only place he was meant to be. No notes re Slash. Dude is so good, so cool and he delivered at every turn last night. Axl, is a legend. A superhero. The greatest front man of all time. And he gave it everything god damn ounce he had last night. He seemed happy, jovial and absolutely dedicated to his band mates and what I assume 50K+ in the skydome. Obviously, there were moments we have all seen when it came out weak etc, but last night it didn’t matter. Not to me, not to anyone around me in the pit. At some point I started catching myself in disbelief what I was actually witnessing. 2017 was a long time ago. Their shows were good, if not great. But I’ve monitored the tours and I struggled making decision to go. Did I want my GNR experience/memory getting worse each time i saw them? This may sound corny, but the comparison i kept thinking to myself was the film For the Love of the Game with Costner. Axl did whatever was necessary to deliver the perfect night. He just kept digging deeper and deeper. TWAT, NT were so strong after already being on stage for 3 hours. 2016 and 2017 I was overjoyed of seeing my favourite band again and again, knowing it may be the last time due to combustible nature of the band etc. Last night I took in every moment like it would be my last show, marvelling how they were still able to deliver such a flawless night. If there is anyone hesitating going this tour, please just pull the trigger. Last night exceeded all expectations, a rejuvenated set list, fresher takes on some of the overbloated songs live. Never know when this may come to an end. But I can assure you, if i never see the most important band in my life again, I will be much happier and have fonder memories than had 2017 been my last show. Last night will forever be special to me. Edited September 4, 2023 by Miller1254 12

From the floor, the concert was incredible. Haters gonna hate. The sound was perfect and Axl was more on point at this show than anywhere else on the tour. Including Europe Crazy I know😄 but in a stadium the sound will be different for people in different areas. And yeah the FOH engineer has a tough job making the band sound great when Axls vocal goes below the band when he goes falsetto but then blasts when he uses chest voice. Not sure how that's being a hater, that's just knowing about mixing bands live. Haven't seen clips from this show, so can't say if this was his best performance of the year or not... Popular Post Powerage5
Finally can settle down and write out my thoughts on the show properly. Spent the holiday weekend up in Canada with my girlfriend, and I managed to convince her we should go see GN'R while we were in Toronto. She knows some of the songs casually, but wouldn't go so far as saying she's a fan so I was happy she was willing to fit that into our schedule. I wanted to see them again this year after seeing one atrocious show in 2021, and one much better, but fairly tame show. The setlists have been quite good - a number of songs I'd never seen live most grabbed my attention, but also Axl sounding better (Or at least more confident) from the bits and pieces I've heard. Add on the fact that they released Perhaps, and I was really itching to catch a gig again. I'm not a fan of Rogers one bit - it's congested, the facilities aren't that great, and the sound is atrocious. Last night was no exception on any of those fronts, but the band more than made up for it. The sound was seriously bad where we sat (In the lower level on Slash's side, straight in line with the side PA's maybe 40 feet away?) - there were times I couldn't hear anything at all except Duff and Axl, and I barely heard Richard all night unless he was playing a solo. But I knew what I was getting myself into at Rogers, and I can't specifically complain about that - it's just the nature of large, cavernous indoor stadiums. The setlist surpassed my expectations, even with a rough idea of what I'd get. None of the songs reintroduced to the set this year got dropped, first time seeing Hard Skool and Perhaps live, and on top of that we got Maddy, TWAT, and Coma all in the same set - what more could I ask for? Out of 30 songs, eight were new ones to me, and two more I haven't seen in the NITL era yet. Standout songs for me last night - Bad Obsession, Hard Skool (Just the idea that I'm seeing them play Checkmate live after all these years still blows my mind), Pretty Tied Up, Down On The Farm, Civil War, There Was A Time. It was pretty wild to see Reckless Life and Anything Goes from a sheer wow-factor point of view (Never expected either of those), but I'm also fine if I never see either again. In terms of performance and effort from the band, there's not much I can critique. Does Axl sound absolutely perfect? No, of course not. Some songs sound better than others, but it's so clear he's at least putting in the effort and I feel like that's all you can really ask. TWAT for example was pretty rough through the verses, but he was going for it on the outro and that's fantastic to see. Slash was probably the best I've seen him since the reunion. I've been quite vocally critical of my thoughts on his takes on the CD songs especially, but fair play to him TWAT was absolutely sublime. He maintained the contours of the solos, some of the key licks, but also put his own spin on them - that's all I've wanted of him playing CD songs. The rest of his playing was top notch also, but his takes on the CD songs stood out to me more than anything. The rest of the band was in fine form as always, not a whole lot of comments to make. The other big thing that stands out to me is just how lean this show felt. Yeah it was 3 hours 10 minutes, but it didn't feel bloated one bit - no endless solo spots, no rehearsed jam sessions, the only random cover was Wichita (Which I personally love), and not even much talking from Axl. KOHD even felt a lot better than normal, and RQ was the only moment in the show that felt like it dragged on for me. Other than the rapid-fire hour and 40 minute set I saw at Governors Ball in 2013, this was the most concise and tight show I've ever seen from GN'R. This was a well oiled machine like I'm just not used to seeing from them. All of that considered, the real highlight of the day for me was meeting up with @James Bond - it's been years since we've seen each other. Thoroughly enjoyed meeting up to hit some breweries, spend the afternoon together, and go to the gig together. It's always great to have good company for a gig and it really added to the atmosphere of what was already a fantastic evening. It was certainly one of my most enjoyable GN'R shows, probably my favorite all around since the UCAP show at The Ritz. 15
