A little throwback - Dublin 2006

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I wanted to listen to a bootleg today while working so I searched YouTube for a 2006 show, this one came up and I hadn't seen it in a while.

It was such a kick ass show (with the sun still up!), Axl in great mood and looking badass (loved his look in '06 - do we have good pictures of him during that era?) voice in top form, band having tons of fun and we had Robin.

Fun moment at 17'04'' with his "I'm melting, it's the sun you see - I don't see that very often"

Were there forum members that were there? If so what was it like?

What do you guys think of this show?

Cheers,

Nico

Reminds me how much I miss the '06 era. Got into Guns a couple of years before the '06 tour, was skeptical about nuGuns but a couple of bootlegs later I was a convert - was also my first exposure to the Chinese songs. Annoyingly I had tickets to one of the Wembleys show but couldn't go as my dad booked a holiday so gave the tickets away - still haven't forgiven him for that  Still, got to see the 2010 tour which made up for that.

Been going over past shows myself - was making my own compilation of the CD tour - made me all nostalgic! Axl was really on fire in 06/07 and 09/10 - then there was the RIR debacle - what the hell happened?

I was there, great gig! cut a little short because of the venue's strict curfew, think he said something around the end of the show about wanting to play some more songs but he didn't want to piss off the council... a night of firsts! he was an hour early, he acme on stage in a great mood, sang his ass off, and didn't want to piss off the local council. First GnR show, and what a show it was, actually... what a year 2006 was for great shows, glad I caught him in 2006 which I consider his peak :)

I was there also :)

Really enjoyed that gig. Went to Temple bar afterwards to the Boars head. Couldn't get in one door.. went round the side and got in. First Bouncer was a dick. Several pints later after chatting to fellow gunners.. got back to the car fell asleep as i hadn't booked a hotel or any of that shit. Drove to the airport early morning and got my flight 5 mins before it took off. Good times had all round.

Brilliant show. His vocals were on point.

IIRC he gets upset at the audience at one point and stops moving around on stage, and his voice during this part is incredible, but I might be confusing it with another gig.

You're thinking of Dublin 2010.

Dublin 2010 was strange, he couldn't be arsed after getting bottled. Everyone went home apart from about 2000 people, I stayed and Axl's voice was brilliant , shame he was in a mood.

He joked about it in Dublin 2012 n all was kinda forgiven

Watched the entire Dublin 2010 show recently and without a doubt it's the closest Axl came to sounding like 92/93 again. His voice had the depth that seemed to be lacking from 2010.

Check out YCBM, it's pretty amazing.

I went to listen to that Dublin 2010 YCBM and at first I was thinking "well it's good but definitely not early 90's. His voice lacks a higher pitch that was included in the rasp" but then I pulled up an early 90's YCBM and they are actually pretty similar. Obviously 92 his voice is slightly higher but not as much as I thought. That very deep rasp is prevalent here just as it was most of 2010. I think my confusion comes in when I think of the album version. And that's just not fair because Axl could hardly song like he does on an album in the 90's much less 2010.

I was there, was an ok gig. Remember strolling past security into the 'golden circle' sans a wrist band and getting right up close about a third of the way into the set. Had previously lept the barrier and been ordered/escorted back.

Obviously remember Jungle starting as half the crowd were still in one of the outdoor bars behind the stage.

It was my first GN'R show, too. I was 15, It felt like such a big deal at the time, it was announced way before most of the European tour, so we didn't know if there would be any Scottish dates and given how volatile the band were, you never knew if it was going to be your last chance to see them or not. So we flew over to Ireland. It was really hot in Dublin all day, and the atmosphere in the city was cracking. I remember lying out in the sun on the grass at the venue saying "We'll probably be waiting for a couple of hours..." then Welcome to the Jungle started.

It was everything it should have been, a sprawling, self-indulgent, epic hard rock show. The crowd were on side, everyone was having a good time. Definitely the best rock show I'd seen up until that point... Then they came to Glasgow a few months later and the intensity blew it away, I think that's still probably the best gig I've ever been to, and the only gig on that tour GNROSAS didn't fucking film.
