Hopefully Sweden in a few weeks, unless the weather is really, really bad. Then we'll book a last-minute to wherever the sun is shining :)

Looks like I'm heading to Portugal with my boys in July.

I love Portugal. Where are you going?

Sweden is the best.

Going to be in LA next week for work (three full days). Any suggestions of places/areas to check out? Think I'll check out the Laugh Factory, Griffith Observatory, The Rainbow, and Santa Monica boardwalk.

The Frolic Room is a great dive bar near the corner of Hollywood and Vine. It's been there forever and it's the only place I found where you could get a beer for $3.

Nice, I'll check it out. Doubt I'll be doing much drinking (as I'll have a rental car to help get me around), but if I'm in the neighbourhood I'll be sure to stop in. Should I tell 'em some limey Brit who likely fell off his ass as a result of $3 beers recommended the place?

The Getty Museum is the coolest place in all of Los Angeles.

You can also catch an old 80s hair metal band like LA Guns or Dokken at The Whisky A Go-Go.

Also, has anybody here ever visited Auschwitz? We're planning on visiting it in August. Not exactly a fun way to start your vacation, but it's one of those places you just have to visit imo. It's been on my to-see list for a long time. Any tips on how to go about it? Reservations? How long does a visit take? (Auschwitz I and Birkenau both)

I usually book all my tours from Viator, It depends on each person on how they want to go and how much they want to see, but for me I find it affordable and informative, you can see if their itinerary meets your needs

You'd think we had nothing outdoors worth viewing in my country, the way you present it, Ron  .

It's more that we're a special-interest group!

But then again Cairngorm National Park can be stunning!

And last year (particularly on Skye and Orkney) we also did a lot of sight seeing!

Just back from LA. Great trip. Also was far more GNR-related than I had anticipated as I had a shot of Jack Daniels at the Rainbow Room (where Gilby was there), had Marc Canter provide me with a tour of the Canter Deli, pointing out the booth used in the famous Jack Lue photo, and walked past Dave Navarro at LAX.

Non-GNR highlights were the Griffith Observatory, my Hollywood Hills Airbnb accommodations, the drive out to Malibu and my meal at Geoffrey's, catching live stand-up comedy at The Comedy Store (Marc Maron was fantastic), my two hour run along Santa Monica and Venice Beaches, and checking out Manhattan Beach during the sunset.

Non-highlights were the drive out to Chino (one of my clients convinced me to have lunch with him at a friend's golf course). Couldn't believe how bad the air quality is as you move inland. Also dealing with the traffic was a nightmare. Took me an hour and twenty minutes to drive from Santa Monica Beach to West Hollywood when without traffic it should only take 20 minutes. Wasting time at the Beverly Shopping Centre for some strange reason.

Can't wait to go back to LA. and California.
